The Indian on the left I bought for  the pose.  The Indian chief on the right is by Reisler. This is small company from Denmark. I like various poses that this company did. I will find some of their orginial figures for a future post.

The cowboy on the left is a copy of Marx figure.  The figure was made in Greece. The French soldier kneeling firing rifle is soft plastic.  I believe that the figure has been painted by a collector.

These two knights that may be reissues. of original figures.  My problem has been I got a figure and never got a chance to  reseach. If it was before  internet, we had limited sources. Now the internet give  a better access to find a figure. Still it takes time.

Our last photo shows a knight with crossbow.  I believe that he is from France. The one on the right is a flat. It is an oriental man.  Now we wait and see who made some of these figures.

    Good stuff!!

The Indian ifring the rifle looks like a JIM or Michel sculpt to me. I could easily be wrong.
The Indians lying down looks like a Jecsan or Reamsa type.

    The rest are a mystery.

    Over to you, Erwin,

  2. Mark T. says:

I like that Gio Indian too. He reminds me of a picture of Sitting Bull praying before Little Big Horn that was in one of my favorite Indian books when I was a little boy.

  3. Hi Paul, the pink and green indians at the top are Hougonnet from France (copied from some other maker but I can’t remember who).
The mounted figure wearing a cloak with a cross on it is by PZG of Poland, I’ll send you a pic of the horse when I find it, he is an historical personality but I can’t remember who Jim Lloyd used to have a good website showing the whole range of these but it seems to be down now.
The two knights, with sword raised and bow, are originals again by PZG. I should say here that all Polish made figures tend to be attributed to PZG but some may be by other manufacturers and all lumped together.
The crossbow man below is French by Jem and the flat oriental man is a premium from tubs of margarine by Heudebert, he is one of the wise men from a nativity set
    Best wishes, Brian

When I looked at the flat last night I thought it might be a nativity figure. Where I picked these figures up I have no idea. Sometimes I think they magically appear. LOL

  4. erwin says:

    Hello…
The Green soldier with am cases is Made in Poland in 70s by PZG in a set made of 14 poses with 4 different 70s era Soviet W Pact armies armor vehicles and tanks. All flat.
The mounted knight is Ulrich Von Jungingen from Battle of Grunwald 1410 series set Made in Poland.
The two silver knights are not PZG but crude later copies downsized of then (PZG) are 65 mm in rectangular high bases and more detailed ,I have the early and 90s reissues poses sold in 90s in bags direct from Poland. These crude are attributed to WZUP WARSAWA later issues and they varied the shield symbol versus original PZG made.

The knight with crossbow if is soft plastic i think is By LUDOREV and base in RF- JEM mold sets, the soft plastic semi painted reissues were sold by LUDOREV with the 4 castles I mention and have before imported here. They were sold in a full set in nice large window box too with all 14 poses and two tents. A robin Hood set was also sold.Under Norev in unpainted silver and blags on bags
easy to find in eBay today too. They are nice 54/56 mm approx
LUDOREV is the one I got the COFALU and other Jem reissues too .
    more after…

    These are great sample all…

Indian firing w rifle is Cyranos ,next to him looks like other French brand I can not remember now.
The Pink and Green had not bee officially attributed to Hugonett still as far I know, they are a mix of Herald ,starlux copes in the poses set (I have those copies) and are crude copies of the apparently french made .They one I have are from Spain Kiosko seller PIPERO sold in bags ,i got two bag mint many years ago.
I think-may be seating Indian is DDR made ,by have to do research on it yet…
No idea in kneeling french soldier …
Viking I have it and other pose ,but not clue who did then.
    BEST..

  6. Andy says:

Reisler foot and mounted cowboys are some of my favorites. Would like to see what you have to know if there are any I am missing.

  7. erwin says:

About French kneeling ,if is about 45 mm scale and soft plastic with light green or mustard olive color as base could be from RADO.
RI-TOYS Hong Kong when making the copies of Airfix sold a not common rare set of French base in the AIRFIX HO poses set. The one I have I think are in 6 poses ,I do not recall having that pose but looks as resemble then.
I will have see mine and look if any marks in bases …
I have original RADO pack of soldiers and will look at it.There soldiers were crude made increases poses but smaller than original RADO-HK copies of airfix and not sold for long or as much as others .
Ironical twice I had found then been sold as Japanese in loose lot at ebay .
Again I’m not positive as not close up and painted over.

  8. denitz says:

Indian firing rilfe – french Cyrnos.
    Orange indian – polish PZG
    Sitting indian – polish PZG
Indain with scalp looks like spanish Sotorres, not a Reisler
Cowboy with pistol – german margarine figure known as Fri-Homa or SIKU
Green flat armyman and silver knights, as said Erwin, polish too. But flat set contains more than 14 poses and at least 5, but, probably, 7 different AFVs.
White king – one of three biblical Magi. German margarine too.

    • admin says:

I checked the Indian with scalp and discovered that it is a Merten figure. I have to remember to bring the figures from the photo area to the computer.
I have salso looked at the cowboy with pistol and rifle overhead. The word Nestle is on base at the back .

      • erwin says:

I knew Sotorres could not be .
Interesting in the Cowboy by Nestle.!!!!

        • admin says:

Nestle got the figure from Clairet. I just check my book Figurines Punlicitaries. Page 91. They confirm it.

        • Mark T. says:

Sotorres did do a very similar chief-with-scalp pose that you can see 2nd from right in the first picture here: http://soldadosdeplastico.blogspot.com/2009/10/sotorres-indios-y-vaqueros.html

          • erwin says:

I have Sotorres set of western. But the figures compered to MERTEN are taller and thicker made of rubber type .The hats are swapped or can be take off in all Sotoores poses .
The mounted pose depicted in right at link from Juan Carlos Martin is not Sotorres.
I will post it in his blog soon or let him know.
Both Merten and Sotorres were base in Elastolin poses by most .With Merten making more original While Sotorres are more direct copiers.

Sotores literally copied most makers. It was not a main original produced but by few sets .
They copied many French figures as well.
As well entire Tour of FRANCE bike sets ,police and civilian line.
They did a Large line of different marching bands sets with swivel arms as well.
            best …

  9. Andy says:

I’m sure many are also familiar with the Reamsa pose of the chief wearing headdress holding up a whole severed head. There’s also a brave, in the 54mm recast group of Indians, in a similar stance to the one above, but no scalp. I always found the one with the head to be an interesting figure.

    • Mark T. says:

I have a recast of that Reamsa chief with the head. I found it a little shocking that someone would make a kids’ toy like that, but I do like the figure. I doubt that a figure like that could be made today, even for the adult collector market, without some sort of controversy. Maybe you could get away with doing a Gaul or some other ancient barbarian holding a human head, but if you made an Indian someone would likely be very offended.

      • erwin says:

Two other Spaniards firm did it ,one is a mounted pose. Other is an a African head hunter from unique set made of then .
Spaniards are only making pigmy tribes sets together with Italian and DDR-east Germany as far I know .

I believe two ghouls or barbarian had been made by old companies if not mistake.
British Cherilea or Crescent Indian I think have one pose with skull or head ,I can not remember well. I may be wrong.

I agree will be a huge controversy by today if were an Indian.
        same if depicting scalping …
Times change and history had change or twisted.
        My thoughts.
        Best.

  10. denitz says:

Yes, I too want know more about Viking 🙂

I have 3-4 figures from this set, but no any information.

  11. Erwin says:

Sotorres did a huron 8 poses set.
Plus two more regular braves with scalps .I just check resently.
They did a set of Spaniards (blue legion) or Spain civil war 16 poses set that I have w sidecar . The soldiers could be used as Germans too.
    Best…
