Plastic Figure Information Questions December 2016 we look at some interesting information. We also have some questions which we will offer answers or perhaps you can.

Pastic Figure Information Questions December 2016 T Cohn

We know that  Marx made different versions of their playsets in Canada. Now we have information that T Cohn may have done that as well. Our very good firiend Brian Johnson send a listing from Ebay UK. The listing showed a mounted Mountie. I recognizes the figure as a Beton and told Brian. Brian replied that the figure was part of a T Cohn Fort Superior Playset he got as a child. The playset had Mounties, a cowgirl waving her hat in the air and the cowboy with lariat. The final figure was a Indian Brian has never seen since.  The Indian was mounted and had his right straight out with a daggar pointed down. In his left hand was lance parrallel to the ground. The lance was lance head over his chest. It makes me wonder if they did other figures.

Plastic Figure Information Questions December 2016 Jescan Farm Woman

Plastic Figure Information Questions December 2016

The most recent issue of Plastic Warrior Magazine has a question on three mystery women.  Our very good friend Erwin Sell recognized two of the  figures, but was not sure on the third woman. Paul Morehead editor and publisher of Plastic Warrior  replied that he had heard it might be from a Jescan farm set. Passing this information along to Erwin, he started to looking around. He found a listing on the internet that gave the answer.

The figure is from Jescan farm set. She is used with a tractor with a plow. She was also was sold with an oxen and wooden plow. Jescan did this figure late in their production history. The figure was later offered by Puchol who took over the molds in 1979. Erwin was able to track down some photos. Erwin has gotten permission for us to use these photos from a Spanish collector named Manolo, who was selling it on the internet.

Plastic Figure Information Questions December 2016 A Question

Plastic Figure Information Questions December 2016Our very good friend Ed Borris send the following photo.  He wanted to know who made the horses. I recognized the horse immediately as I had sold them. The horse were made by  Cofalu. I had gotten them from our very friend  Michael Smith. Michael had found the mold in the Mauritius. He had the mold run and I and others bought them. The mold is destroyed. I do not know if Micheal has anymore as we have not  heard from him in awhile. (Noted the name of the company maybe different.)

I interesting in the horses, never see them before. I have few never reissues mounted Cofalu Knights and the horses are awesome in detail, poses and harness. I like more than Starlux.
I have to do some research as so far most from Mauritius appear to be QUIRALUX ,not JEM,JIM and CUFALU ,but I could be wrong of course.
Most COFALU molds end with NOREV later Ludorev ,but they only release-reissue few knights sets and cowboys/Indians most foot in the late 90’s in painted soft plastic.

    • Erwin says:

      Sorry i though wrong
Admin is complete correct. The horses are Cofalu.
They also were used x the Zorro many poses done by Cofalu as well swopped western series.
Intersting the Cofalu horses come from Mauritius but cowboys and idians not.Rare mistery indeed.
Wile most from there were Quiralux molds.
      Best….

      • admin says:

Michael had some cowboys and Indians but I did not like the qualiity so I passed on them. Yes the other molds were Quirlax.

        • Erwin says:

I agreevin Michael.most figures poses looks like too flat or poor detail and not quite great poses.
Yes very curius as why only Cofalu horses there .
The Cofalu ludorev cowboys poses were reissue with out those horses. So that explain why as they did not have the molds as were in Mauritius.

          • Erwin says:

I was reffering first series Cowboys sets and indians and ironically i have somev sale listed now in ebay
Cofalu did a second set by other artist.
            I have both.
            Will send photo s
            Best

If we ever find Michael again perhaps we can ask him. Michael has been off the toy soldier scene for the last two years. laurie and I were surprise we saw him at the last PW we attended. At that time he was talking about buying property in northern England.

  2. Don Perkins says:

Paul, I’m sure you remember you used to sell those horses. They came in brown, gray, and white. I thought they were so nice, I got a total of about 20 of them from you.

They were a good 60mm size, and all the WOW soft plastic mounted cavalry figures reissues I got from John Stengel fit on them perfectly for a nice snug fit. I notice that’s what the riders are in the above photo. Like the horses they are mounted on, some collector has painted them.

  3. Carl Castoro says:

Hi Paul, Erwin and Don. I am looking for those Cofalu horses in the picture above; 3 Union riders on 3 horses (only 2 poses). Does anyone have them, for sale? Don says he got 20 or so a while back. I would love to get the 2 poses, and anything else you may want to sell. To use with the Paragon and TSSD Cav. There are only a few poses with the TSSD horses, so the Cofalu would be great to break up the pattern. Also, Paul: I saw a photo somewhere on your site – a Japanese Officer on a leaping brown plastic horse, other Japanese figures in background. Could be a Conte Horse? Can’t locate the picture, perhaps you remember? Seasons Greetings – Carl ACW Collector

    • Don Perkins says:

Carl, I’m sorry, but my own remaining Cofalu horses aren’t for sale. I have the matching number of riders for them that I want to keep.

    • admin says:

These figures were brought in by me and I just sold out of them. I have to areas to look but I am very doubtful I have any left. I very rarely kept more that one and even then I might not keep any like other dealers. I got items and want to see that collectors got them. On the Japanese figure I do not remember as I have done over a thousand posts. I have rarely look at my posts after I did them. This due to working on new ones and my other obligations.

  4. Carl Castoro says:

I understand completely. Only hope someone else has them for sale. Doesn’t matter, but how many poses were there originally? (More info to cause me aggravation.) Always looking for more 60mm horses so the battle scene doesn’t look like clone wars. Regards, Carl

    • Erwin says:

Cofalu original western horses are 4 plus 4 indians.
I do not know if the indian horses were ever reissues.
As far I know very few reissues were imported by Stad .
And maybe other dealer in early 90s.
Via Mike from UK who imported then from Mauritania were mold were together w others order french brands.
Since then not been reissue and not much abundat back then.I had not see many around x awile on ebay neither any dealer carry then x wile.
Best bet is see if listed on ebay. But few know the brand so hard to find by it as not stamped.
      Best…..

  5. Carl Castoro says:

Mr Erwin…You are the man. Now that we have exchanged email texts, I will be sure to ask you about this crazy military miniature world (in which I can’t stop buying stuff). Remarkable how much I have learned about minis reading your texts and Paul and Ed and Don, and all the guys. If we don’t etalk before…Happiest of Holidays to all. Carl

    • Don Perkins says:

Carl, are you here in the United States? If so, may I inquire where?

    • erwin says:

Carl.Merry Christmas as well to you and family and friends!!!

I just did a simple google on eBay by using the specify brand .
Unfortunately most showed are original painted COFALU from early .
The figures such Zorro mounted and most foot Zorro poses were done out generic COFALU cowboy poses just painted in black with black painted mask.
I think only three Zorro poses were specifically made as Zorro by this brand and I do not know why just this French brand did so many Zorro variation as well sold a playset Hacienda house for El Zorro compere to other French brands such Starlux ,Quiralux ,Jim,Colorado,Clairet,Segon,Guilbert and others that did less Zorro series/poses.
Any how back to the Horse.Same horses as this sample were used in Cowboy, US cavalry, civil war mounted and also for knights.(In the mounted knight case they add a nice plastic plug over medieval ornate décor harness over to camouflage the horse modern seat style only. They were made in same style -not exact as Timpo,Plasty of Elastolin swapped style horse décor over harness in many colors but more predominant red, yellow, blue and green .

By 70’s COFALU release a series of semi-swapped figures which basically consist of same modern, cowboy and Indian poses redone with split torso parts only mounted in new bases and minor variation from original solid poses done before; very match with later Cherilea and NARDI swapped in scale (70-75 mm ) approx.
The horses used again were same as before .Not change on it.-See last link please.

Now for the stagecoach ,carriage and wagon they did two different type of horses. One SET are very alike these nice poses with good detail but with carriage cover molded harness on it. Often in Brown or black solid color.
Wile another set of two different poses were exact copied from Jean Hoefler brand but not exact as a bit taller and varied pose but same semi flat style.
I do not know why this was done .But I had seen several mint boxes from COFALU with carriage using these other odd poses.
Hope this info help a bit.

If look on France eBay many sellers who do not have knowledge of brands list mix COFALU later not painted bags sets with other brands not painted. Here is where you may have best bet to get then cheap, not from painted early series.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/COFALU-ZORRO-A-CHEVAL-PISTOLET-EN-LAIR-/331830429716?hash=item4d42a28814:g:uOwAAOSw3mpXDgo5

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-cheval-noir-sur-socle-Cofalu-France-/182038451386?hash=item2a625654ba:g:EHUAAOSwezVW0z3c

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/L826-COFALU-JOUETS-COW-BOYS-INDIENS-NEUF-SOUS-BLISTER-/361679227551?hash=item5435c30a9f:g:oEAAAOSwRGlXp3kd

Now shipping from France is more costly than from UK, Germany ,Russia and Spain.
I do not know exact reason but same happen with Belgium and Dutch land
      Wish you best luck.
      Best regards.
