Peter Evan’s Roman Figure Conversions

Peter Evan’s Roman Figure Conversions  is the latest conversions done by our very good friend Peter Evans. Peter is a grand master in doing conversions. Over the years it has been a pleasure to  see and receive a few of his conversions.  Peter sent us some Roman figures he had recently converted. It’s my way of making figures that the manufacturers never did to fit it with my collection and being a British Boy of the 1960s I paint my figures because that’s how I grew up with them.

The first picture shows of Peter Evan’s Roman Figure Conversions a Cherilea mounted General to lead his troops into battle, then we have a foot version of the Timpo mounted Roman.Plus two Lone Star roman Legionaries, converted from Lone Star knights – very little had to be done to them. I like the foot Roman using the Timpo mounted figure. I always thought it was a shame that Timpo never did any solid foot Roman figures.

The second picture of Peter Evan’s Roman Conversions shows Crescent Archers, a Centurion and a Tribune. The Tribune is little more than a head swap from the Standard bearer and kneeling figure with the addition of a Timpo shield. The arms for the archers came from the Herald Trojan with bow. The standing figure will eventually be given a color scheme similar to his kneeling comrade.

The final photo of Peter Evans Roman Conversions  is actually the Lod Greek and Trojan Figures. Peter wanted some variations of the figures so he did some conversions.

I have included photos of the original Lod Enterprises figures for you to compare with Peter’s conversions.

Besides Peter’s conversions he is my go to person for information on British plastic.  The above figure is the Ken Toys English Policeman walking.  The figure was later made by Cavendish to part of their souvenir set that sold in shops.  I put it up as Ken Toys and got a person questioning my listing. I advised him that it was Ken Toys that Cavendish got the mold.  The person did find information done by Hugh Walter that conformed my statement still I went to Peter as back up. Peter confirmed that it had been Ken Toys and used in a raceway set.
Plastic Warrior did a special on Ken toys if you are interested in finding out more.

All the conversions are very nice-looking, but I especially like the look of those LOD Trojan/Greek conversions. I bet Ken, as President of LOD, will be very impressed when he sees them.

I like all, the idea of LS knight pose chose was great.Tthe tribune and archer are awesome .Paint on conversion is the best finish touch as same time made easy cover some parts also put a beautiful touch, specially if well painted.
On LOD; kneeling is a very realistic pose of typical ancient Greek classic pose depicted in many paintings, very well done , not seen and not done often .
    The archer looks nice too.

    Very nice work.
What kind of modelling filler did you use for the joints?
Will you paint the LOD figures?

    Hi
As a filler I use white Miliput which I then coat with PVA glue for extra bonding.
I will paint the LOD figures eventually.

I also have some conversions of the TSSD Romans which I will send images of for Paul to display in the near future

    Peter

  6. Michael Purchase says:

    Hi Peter
Thank you for the details about glue. I have been converting Romans in 40mm scale.
Would you please be so kind as to send Paul your email address to advance it to me.
    Sincerely
    Michael
