Steve Weston and OTSN

Steve Weston posted this up on the Treefrog forum that we thought those of you going to OTSN should get a heads up on. As we get more information we will pass it along.

For this years show, we will be bringing a couple of new items, three for the Civil War enthusiasts and one for the WWII enthusiasts.

Death Production have made 4 different dead Union, 4 different dead Confederates and 2 different dead Zouaves. Size has been increased so that theses now nicely match Italeri, Imex and Accurate and are molded in their respective colors, and are generally a much fuller figure than their earlier sets.

Each come packed with 2 different in a bag, but I will only have 10 of each with me (making a total of 50 sets), so don’t delay in getting to my room as these are sure to be snapped up quickly.

We are pleased to be debuting a new WWII set of figures (not by Death Productions), which to my knowledge has never been covered before, I cannot give any more info, but have the figures in my hands right now and will be trying to pack in as many as I can. However, space as always, is very limited.
It is very doubtful if anyone else will have these at Chicago.

The new WWII set sounds intriguing. If it’s as good as Weston’s WWII British of a year or two ago I will be quite satisfied. I just hope there’s still some left by the time I hit the deck early Friday morning.

I was already planning on getting a box of the Soviet Women by Engineer Bassevich, and, of course, the new Trojans and Greeks by Ken Lodi. So something new for WWII that’s never been done? Hmmm. Nothing comes to mind, unless it’s Spanish Civil War, which, of course, was slightly “pre” WWII. Maybe Polish at the time of the Blitzkrieg?

  2. Nothing comes to mind???
    Come on Don??!
WWII is only about HALF covered!
American Civil war on the other hand has been beaten to death.
Hell, all you have to do is make one set, cast them in blue, grey and butternut and market it as 3 sets!

  3. Jack Gibbons says:

How about Kriegsmarine U-Boat men? 1940 Dutch troops on their ice skates? Polish troops and maybe a Polish lancer from 1939? British Sikh troops? Yugoslav partisans, or French resistance? Coastal observers in Britain? Or in the Pacific? RAF, USAAC, or Luftwaffe pilots and ground crews? MPs? Or historical character figures (like Audie Murphy) in action?

Just brainstorming. I am sure there are many more areas not done in 1/32 plastic yet.

  4. Tom Black says:

Sounds like the WW2 set might be a new Engineer Bassevich set?

    • erwin says:

      I think the same Tom!

      • Don Perkins says:

I’m just hoping he’s not referring to the Soviet women, which, of course, was a pretty original idea other than TSSD’s single female sniper.

Here’s what I see as having already been done in WWII, which makes me look forward and curious as o something that “has never been done before”:

        U.S. Army
        U.S. Marines
        U.S. Navy
        U.S. Air Force
        U.S. Paratroopers
        German regular infantry
        German SS
        German paratroopers
        German Afrika Korps
        German Ski Troops
        British Infantry
        British Eighth Army
        British SAS
        Scottish infantry in kilts
        Austrailian infantry
        Canadian infantry
        French Infantry
        Italian Infantry
        Italian Alpine
        Romanian infantry
        Soviet infantry
        Soviet sailors
        Soviet Cossacks
        Soviet women
        Japanese infantry
        Indian Gurkas (Airfix)
        Indian Sikhs (Atlantic)
        Chinese Nationalist infantry

After the above, what subject would really be available that isn’t totally exotic or trivial? The only things I can think of would be Polish Army or, as Jack suggested, French Resistance. And I can easily see Engineer Bassavich coming up with an interesting set of the French Resistance or Spanish Civil War. Did Engineer Bassavich already do Finland?

        • Don Perkins says:

And I realize I’ve forgotton WWII Turks (as in Gallapoli), which I don’t think have yet been done.

          • erwin says:

Don,sorry I never like to correct any , and I’m positive you did it by mix up as happen to me often as well.
Gallipoi battle/campaign happen in WWI, not WWII
Turkey was neutral in WW2 till end of war when it declare unofficial or official side with allies. It never went to action or war.
The Gallipoli and Turks were barely cover by reamsa 6 poses sets in 60 mm scale sold for/with Lawrence of Arabia set with Reamsa Bedouins that in fact are not accurate as Arabs(from Arabia Peninsular and Syria/Iraq as were first intended for early morocco/tunes sets with Spaniard colonial troops.)=(That is why the carry the not typical hood long robes capes),the more and better match for Turkish Reamsa are the Marx 60 Arabs.
Any how if want to do the Gallipoli campaign with out counting too much historical accuracy AIP Egyptian could be used as Turkish troops against British AIP colonial as The British army used leather helmet and ASSIES the hat in the camping. Also could use any French FL as were in the campaign too and Indian AIP and Atlantic with out postWW1 weapons too.

        • erwin says:

Finland set was done with a lot of poses but very few in action poses, it was a disappointed set unfortunately for me and many. The set has a mix of Finnish and Russian/Soviet soldiers with a lot of officer and standing-no action poses and a “wood sign”!.
So yes ,you are right as we need another set x it or still more coverage as was a very short but bloody war and the soldiers could be easily used for the so call (continuation war 1941-1944 ); where Finland allied with Germany to regain the lost land taken by Soviets.

          • Don Perkins says:

Erwin, you are absolutely correct about Gallapoli. I was thinking how the idea of Gallapoli was conceptualized by Winston Churchill, which made me think WWII, but of course Churchill had a hand in the Boer War, Sudan, and WWI, too. Thanks. I almost listed Reamsa’s Lawrence of Arabia figures, but then remembered he was WWI also.

In any event, I’ll trust Steve Weston that the new WWII figures he’s bringing to OTSN are a subject previously not introduced, and I look forward to them.

And you’re also right about some of the subjects having plenty of room for additional coverage. A prime example is how Marx had some pretty good WWII French, but now Expeditionary Force has come out with excellent WWII 60mm French.

And I agree with Christian Aldo that we’ve had more than enough of my two favorites —American Civil War and Alamo. The same could probably be said of Custer’s Last Stand. But as Paragon is about to prove with its new ACW releases at OTSN, you can always come up with a few more poses that seem different than what’s already been done.

        • The only Romanian set I’m thinking of they were actually Italians,A set of “real” Romanians could also be used for 1940 Dutch.

          • Don Perkins says:

You’re right, Brian. But CTS said they were Romanians, so I’m going with Romanians!

          • erwin says:

Rumanian units and infantry corps in the Eastern front did indeed used entire Italian uniform supply and weapons in the thousands. Including to the mid rank officer .
Rumanian army lack the most of all axis forces. So the choices made by CTS are correct in this case. The only problem I found is with LMG pose so often repeated in Italian and they had so few that barely was given to NCO or special unit such as paratroopers.
Still correct Rumania infantry/else uniform forces could be well represented as well Hungarian, Bulgarian else if like.

  5. erwin says:

Well the civil war over done comment it is in my opinion correct;but we can not denied, even Hollywood in fact had done less war movies about civil war than WW2 ,it had not help to take off the part about important ,sad and emotional nostalgic desire of Americans for collecting the era figures. So will said it will never be enough of then and will sale well.
But after few connection ,chats and even visit to gamers(the other hobby side groups of potential buyers) I had noticed the lack of interest in it. In fact ,because the US civil war had not been pushed enough by video gamers else and others such WW2,MODERN and ancient/medieval period had been promoted more it decrease interest.
My point is mid and new generation ages focus more collecting -buying more these than Civil war. Older generation appreciate much more the civil war.
I’m myself ,mid and do collect then a lot ,but never enough, still feel other periods should be cover.
Doing civil war is open market still, that is reason one doing to get money fast. Plus could sale several sets to in buyers for repeated poses ,colors else.
In the other hand cowboys/Indians, western is slow as buyers usually buy one set unless one conversion and that is for the less. Hollywood stop long ago the western fury and it is not cover in games eithers. Plus the retard pacifist revisionist campaign about the poor Indian victims brain washed spread from grade 1 till college in school now.

  6. Tom Black says:

The set could be Soviet related such as the assault troops with body armor or Soviet Paratroops. If not it would probably be an enemy of the Soviets like the Finn set. Could be Romanians or Poles. I’d like to see a set of French 1940 troops or German Naval to fight Airfix/Matchbox Commando’s.

  7. Whats with the secrecy any way?!
    Makes NO SENSE!
If you have a release, trumpet it to everyone!!!
Build hype! Not piss everyone off!
    We need some good news!

It makes sense give an air of mystery on a product that people start talking. If you look at this site and Treefrog forum. you see that there has been a lot of chatter over this product than any other product coming to OTSN. Why because you have no idea what it is. The other items for OTSN have been announced and you have made your decision to buy it or not. With this product you do not know what it is and you start to speculate and it builds the hype. Apple does this all the time, people know they are coming out with new product they have no idea exactly what. My attitude is to sit back and wait. Perhaps someone will find out before the show if not sometime between September 23 and the 25 we will find out.

  8. I WANNA KNOW (((((NOW))))))!!!!#$%^&*()_

      Christian
You have to wait until OTSN unless someone finds out.

      • les white says:

I’m guessing they will be –
German Field Police with the neck chains and a dog.
German Gendarmerie, checking passes at train stations.
        Japanese naval landing Force.
        Long range Desert Group
Escaped POWs, one with a huge suitcase 🙂
German Air Force POW guards, one overweight that ‘knows nothing’
Allied POWs ,not looking at all suspicious.
        Dutch Resistance fighters.
Don’t think any of the above list have been made before, have they ?

    • Your awful excitable but then you are from Taranta,LOL.

  9. erwin says:

looks like every body miss the Gestapo with typical not historical accurate leather shiny longboat,bad/mad faces and so on!!
Now if these are EB sets I’m wondering who or better how many are willing to buy it as so far few are accepting the high price on them and if are need to get then ship from Russian with love or wait for some one to bring them here once a wile.
