OTSN Management Changes

Don Perkins Received a letter telling of the management change that is coming to OTSN. Here is what Don sent to me relay to me.

The letter (apparently going to all dealers and sign-in customers of previous OTSNs) says the show is being purchased and has been sold to Roger Garfield and his wife Jan.  Roger is identified as “one of our founding OTSN partners in 1976”.

The letter goes on to say, “Only the management is changing —- not the show.”  Further, that the show will continue in 2016 at the same location at the Hyatt in Schaumburg.

The letter attributes the decision of Don Pielin to sell the show and retire as Show Chairman to the increasing workload running the show entails

The letter concludes with the words, “Steve [Sommers], Jo, Joe, and I will be in full support of Roger and Jan at future show, but they will be in command.  Please give them your full support.”

    Yep, got the same letter.

I basically can’t regard as “good news” anything that changes the highly successful OTSN format, or puts in new management. But maybe everything will work out.

I remember when Tom Terry announced his retirement as editor of PLASTIC FIGURE AND PLAYSET COLLECTOR. I honestly thought that was the end of the magazine. I thought all the subjects and Marx playsets had been covered, and that there was nothing a successor magazine could add.

But Rusty Kern took up the mantle, recreated PFPC as PLAYSET MAGAZINE, and actually improved the professionalism of the publication —- adding gorgeous color photography, covering old material in a new way, and basically taking the magazine to the next level. And, as I’ve said before, I think Rusty tends to give things a more positive, uplifting, less argumentative spin than TT did.

So I’m hoping nothing negative arises for OTSN either. I expect to be there in 11 days.
