One of the shows I love to do is Gettysburg. This year I was also going to do the show as a dealer with my friend Erwin Sell. After setting up, I did a survey of the tables.

2025 Report: Gettysburg Toy Ideal castle

There a wide selection of figures and playsets to select. For example, the tub had a complete Ideal Castle Playset.

One of the many unique items that Mark Hegeman had on his table were the Marx Jesus and the disciples plus Saint Paul. What makes the set unique is the figures are factory painted and were made in Hong Kong. Mark also had the individual boxes for the figures.

Thanks, STAD, for the photos and stories, for the shows you attend.

It is great to see a photo of Erwin, since I have been following this blog and seeing his comments for about a decade. It’s great to put a face with his name. Erwin has such a wealth of information, so I read a lot of his informative comments.

Since, I’m on the west coast, I miss all the shows STAD posts about. I’ve missed our Westcoaster show the past two years as well.

I do enjoy seeing all the photos and replies with your articles. Keep up the great work.
Stadstuff and Playset Magazine are my main sources for Toy Soldier news and events.

    All my best,

    Jon

      Hi Jon
I am glad you enjoy my reports of the shows. When I started Stad’s I did not want it to be just a list of items for sale. I want it to share what I was seeing and experiencing. One aspect are the shows. I am sorry you have not been to any shows lately. Hopefully, in the near future that will change.

      • Erwin F Sell says:

It was great to see and meet friends, collectors, and dealers. Shows are every time fewer and, unfortunately, less visited as the digital era takes over and new enthusiasts are very limited. Older vintage figures are less wanted as new generations look for more accurate, realistic historical figures rather than classic toy soldiers from childhood, of course. 3D technology has given new opportunities for coverage of previously unseen figures and eras. I believe we are witnessing a hobby that is slowly dying, unfortunately. While it sounds pessimistic, I applaud and support it until the end. Thanks to Jon for the kind words. I’m glad to help contribute to the knowledge of this hobby, and Paul’s blog has been the main guiding light

No denying that Warhorse Miniatures is on the right track for the future of the hobby. It’s great that Mike is pioneering this field and showing what is possible with 3D technology. 3D printing has created a convergence of toy soldier collecting with plastic model building.
Jon, as a West Coast resident myself I agree there are few toy soldier venues here but I would recommend that you also check out train shows, toy shows and IPMS meets in your area.

I have bought a lot of Mike’s figures. They are a real treat and a great addition to your Barzso playsets.

  3. Mark says:

Thanks for the Pics Paul !
