Expeditionary Force Japanese Two New Sets

Dear All,
 Greetings from Singapore!
Very pleased to inform you of the release of two new box-sets for the “54mm WW2 Pacific War Japanese” range as follows:-

54 PWJ 02             Japanese Infantry – Defense Section
54 PWJ 02-MG      Machine–Gun Section
 All models are supplied unpainted.

The sets will be available for shipment by next week Monday, 23 November 2020; if not earlier. (Note this dealer’s delivery date.)

The set contains 9 model soldiers comprising of 1 officer, 1 heavy machine gun plus crew (2 figures), a light machine gunner, with sub-machine gun option, and 5 riflemen. The weapons, heads, and arms are interchangeable with those of 54 PWJ 01 to enable the assembly of multiple different postures.

The variety of weapons in a WW2 combat unit and the required realistic proportions made it difficult to tailor toolings to fit our designed box-sets. For instance, we should have an officer but not too many, and we need to have a specialist gunners but again not too many.

Due to the above constraints, we have to split our model sets into multiple toolings. The models and parts of all these sets are meant to be used in conjunction with each other.

PWJ 02 comes in two options:-
54 PWJ 02-MG will have 2 machine guns plus a crew (2 figures) supported by a variety of escorts and assistants.
54 PWJ 02 will have mainly infantrymen in a defensive tactical scenario but supported by a single machine gun.

A machine gun section is made up of a gun component and an ammo-supply component with pack horses. At the front line, the pack animals are kept out of sight, while the assigned infantrymen serve as riflemen.

In this set, we have modeled all the soldiers as having netted helmets as compared with PWJ 01 where the soldiers have plain steel helmets. This appearance is more representative of the Japanese on the defensive somewhere in the tropics. The heavy machine gun modeled is the Type 92 “woodpecker”, nicknamed by the Americans from the sound of its firing. This is the most commonly issued gun for the Japanese.

We have included a Type 100 sub-machine gun option for these sets. Although they are not commonly issued, various escort and specialist units do carry a few of the weapons.

I will have more information up tomorrow including about the future sets.

I like EXF and support them overall always ,However there some things I see wrong. They have tendency to do figures with anatomical too much rigid gesture in arms ,legs ,head and torso ,like the figures lack dynamism .I say it base in their price as not cheap either, so quality and price should be blend .EXF may do good research in uniforms ,weapons and else but the artist do figures too rigid in my view .
Also JAPANESE EXF are not at all 54 mm as far photos I seen with other 54 mm scale next to them unless photos were in odd angles .I seen photos by others collectors and these guys are with out base 60 mm in standing pose ,slight bending or running body are 54/56 mm easy .Those showing photos did it to proof they were not 54 mm and posted in FB blogs no long ago .Yet EXF claim they are 54 mm .
In past ,they keep calling the German and US early set as 60mm ,when they are close to 70 mm =huge .To me not an issue as I can blend with 65/70 figures of many other brands but to many it was a disappointment ,hope it wont be with Japanese to many expecting true 54 mm ,but as far i see ,they wont be 54 mm at all .Still They blend with BMC,LIDO,OLIVER-EX P.H ,JECSAN and few others Japanese made in the 60+mm range ..
In general I will like to know what type measure they use as definitely not what it seems and is after made .
    my thoughts

I agree with mr. sell. A bit “stiff” in poses but magnificent detail

  3. Christian Aldo says:

The Japanese are defiantly 60mm. they blend well with the BMC Japanese, but are also compatible with TSSD.
