Finds German Plastic Show T Cohn Western

Finds German Plastic Show T Cohn Western, some of our friends share with the items they found. It is interesting what turns up at a European toy soldier show. Also an update on the German Plastic Show.

Our first set of figures is from our very good friend Andreas Dittmann. He got at the show these cowboys which he listed as Lido.
Finds German Plastic Show copies
I informed Andreas that these figures are actually by T Cohn. According to Playset Magazine issue 110, T Cohn had to make its own figures after their supplier Lido had been sold. The figures were mostly copies of Marx.

The only question I have is these figures original or copies from Hong Kong? I do not see these figures often as they were only sold in playsets and a game. By the way, I like to use this figure in my modern setups.

One more other western item Andreas got was this Hong Kongcovered wagon. does anyone recognize it

Plaho Army Truck

Plaho truck
The other item we have seen in several photos of the German Summer Plastic Show is this truck. Andreas told me it is by Plaho. Here is what he said about the truck.
The wooden army truck was made by PLAHO in former Eastern Germany GDR (= German Democratic Republic). As it is typical for all communistic countries they always ha a lack of modern materials, so they used wood for their army toys up to the 1980s.

The name PLAHO stands for Plastik and Holz (= wood). So the army truck perfectly represents the production line of that state-owned firm. It has 8 infantrymen sitting on the back of the truck and two inside. The soldiers are made of a rubber-like soft-plastic and hand-painted.

While the figures are more or less around 54mm scale, the truck is more in !.22 scale (if any). Today, 30 years after German reunification, military toys from GDR times are very much looked after by collectors.

Never see those T Cohen figures before they are a mix of poses base in marx and mpc some poses to me.
I have a Plaho T60 and Army truck long nose as well w seated figures.
They made cannons as well to go with 1/26 scale alike Elastolin range figures made by most DDR toy makers.

  2. Wayne W says:

I picked up a bunch of the T Cohn figures along they way over the years; didn’t know until now who made them; figured they were Marx copies though. Thanks for the ID.

  3. I think the T.Cohn figure running with pistol is based upon a Marx Untouchable figure. The Marx figure is holding an ax in his other hand. Remove the ax and he sort of looks like a cowboy although as Stad mentions he uses him in more modern settings. Most of T.Cohn own figures seem to be copies of Marx figures except the doll house family and some of the GIs in their WWII sets.

  4. Daniel Murphy says:

The wagon looks like those that were included in Dollar Tree cowboy and Indian sets not too long ago.

  5. Jack Gibbons says:

My mom brought home a used Brumberger set in 1970. It included these cowboys and Indians. Both sets had green, yellow, blue, and red figures. I do remember having only the cowboy poses shown above, including horses. I think there were maybe another two Indian poses, and a horse as well.

  6. AJ says:

Kent has an interesting history of T. Cohn, Brumberger, Bergen/Beton, etc. on his site.
