August Reader’s Figure Contributions Lone Star Update

August Reader’s Figure Contributions, we have two contributions this time. First, our very good friend Peter Evans has given an update on the Lone Star American Civil War and French Foreign Legion. Next, George Albany shares some metal figures he has repaired. Finally, I will share some items from the collection. If you want to share items with other readers you can send them to my email address pestad@gmail.com

Peter Evans sent the above photos of the Lone Star American Civil War and Foreign Legion figures. You will notice the figures are the same pose. peter related that Lone Star copied the Foreign Legion from their civil war. The only two poses that were not copied from the civil war figures was the falling wounded and waving the hat. Peter also included the Foreign Legion marching which I mention in a recent post.

George Albany”s Metal Figures

Metal figure
George Likes to restore and convert damaged metal figures. The first one is a figure that been used in the BB Gun Wars.
sailor
This is a modern casting from an old mold; think deck gunner on the Olympia.
Confederate flag bearer
the last figure is a Dutkins signal flag man converted to carrying the southern battle flag (the stars are decals). Lets us know if you would be interested in seeing more of George metal figure work.

Stad’s Figure Collection

Marx British
Marx in the 1960s including WWII British in select military playsets. While in most sets you only got a few figures, I was able to buy a quantity from a collector. Later when I did my trips to Mexico I was able to get the reissues. I would say the British of the three best of the allies in action poses

Two more Hong Kong swoppet figures this time mounted swoppet cowboys. The figure on the right has a knife.

I am really fond of the British, too – the six poses are more than made up IMHO by the fact they tend to blend so well with their Airfix counterparts. I guess the same can be said to a lesser extent of the Russians. I try to mix them with Airfix – even though I haven’t been able to match colors as well. The French, I like the poses, just wish there were more of them.

Thanks for sharing the pics of the Lone Star – pretty much as good an illustration of same or similar poses being used across the board as I’ve seen.

The Lone star figures look like they have Walther p38 hand guns. I could never work out what the Airfix German infantry figure with the machine gun is carrying. What is the weapon meant to be as the other Germans weapons were right.

To all: Folks, don’t know if this is the right place under” Reader Contributions” but if you’re going to the Chicago Show next month there’s a very good chance Ed and I will one and maybe two brand new Armies in Plastic playsets on display.

That’s fine, people will be asking if the AIP playsets are from Tony or collector made. Also is this new figures or reuse of old figures in different colors?

    • Alex Baldwin says:

Mike, do you have any more information you can share regarding Armies in Plastic?

  4. Brian Johnson says:

Yeah they better be “Brand New” and not just different colours of issued sets.REALLY would like to see Fez/Short Pants Sudanese,WW1 Top hat Belgians,1939 Poles,1940 Dutch. One can dream eh.

  5. Mike Kutnick says:

Supposedly a prototype is being put together and shipped in time for the Chicago Show. Nothing is set in stone, more info as I get it. I don’t want to say anything else until it [ or both] us/are actually is done.

      Mike,
This is exciting news. I’m curious to know if this might be that 55 Days at Peking (Boxer Rebellion) playset idea that Tony had mentioned in the past or if this is something entirely new. Tony has a bunch of finished molds of unreleased figures (I hear he even has an unreleased medieval line up his sleeve) and I can honestly say that it doesn’t matter what he produces, my brother and I will support him. We have purchased some of his existing figures issued in new colors and they are excellent (Adrian helmet WWI in Green as Italians and Grey as Serbian Infantry as well as his Stalhelm WWI Germans/Austrians in Dark Grey, Grey and Tan). It looks like he finally issued the Boers in Brown (which was also needed). I want details if and when they come available.

      Thank you,
      Alex

That is fine Mike. We hope it comes together for you to showcase at Chicago.
