We look at some more swoppet figures. Here we have two women from Plasty.  The women on the left is western woman.  She is missing her base and parasol. I might have copy of the parasol.  The other woman would be great to use in World War scene.  I do not know how she was sold.

One of the major German toy soldier companies was Merten.  Merten did figures in 40mm and 60mm.  The second time I ran into Merten figures was at a circus model builders convention at a local amusment park.  There was a dealer selling Merten figures.

I believe this was one of the figures I bought at the show.  One of the other figures they did were centaurs. When Laurie saw them they became  part of her collection.  I recently saw a photo from this year’s Bad Nauheim show where I saw 13 centaurs. I know I would have bought all thirteen for her.

The lady missing parasol is from Elastolin swoppet line. Now pretty hard to find.
Plasty lady has been sold in a small box with winter tourist figures. Hard to find with undamaged handbag.
Last figure is a german fire fighter in old style 60/80s uniform. With classic “wehrmacht” style helmet. The fire fighter uniforms always had been different depending at what town in which federal state they do their job. Think had been sold with fire engines by Dickie. Should be made in china.
Almost sure there is at least one policeman to go with. Great Merten horse and figure. Think first time I did see it for real.

Question re Merten 60mm figures: Did Merten ever do their Landsknechts in 60mm.?

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

I will say 65-70 mm not 60 mm ,Merten did same or close big scale as Elastolin in 70/75 mm as far i remember and most in 40 mm that looks more 45 mm .
I do not know of Merten in 70 mm Landsknechts but they may had done it possible.
So far their line of 65/70mm cover modern soldiers call often WW2 that looks more a post WW2 mix american and new germany post ww2 army figures poses ,western indian cowboys and mythology greek series in few nice poses plus accessories and weapons for above sets.
i only have modern soldiers and few cowboys as their fragile plastic used plus skinny style never impress me in most poses in my personal like,

      best

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

Forgot ,they cover civilian line in 5 scales x their railroad train hobby as well and they are a bit confusing some times in variation
        Scale 1: 22.5 = Gauge G = approx. 86mm
        Scale 1:87 = Gauge H0 = approx. 20mm
        Scale 1: 120 = Gauge TT = approx. 15mm
        Scale 1: 160 = Gauge N = approx. 12mm
        Scale 1: 220 = Track Z = about 7mm

    • No Merten never made the Landsknechts in 60mm, a great shame, personally I think they are better than the Elastolin range.

Maybe we have a surplus in Ohio, but most of those American Hero statuettes have been going for $2 or less per figure at the local shows. I have been able to collect them all in a rapid and very inexpensive way.

  4. I can remember in the hey day of PFPC that the American heroes were selling for $15 each. I sold them for $8 each for years and they sold well. Like a lot of 1950s plastic figures I have had to lower prices to keep sales going and I now sell them for $5 each and they sell well. $2 Each sound like the “cheap plastic” dealers from SW Ohio who buy low and sell low. As much of a pain as Ebay can be, it has made finding some once hard to find figures much easier.

  5. Jack Gibbons says:

I don’t know who the cheap plastic dealers are, but Marx Germans and GIs from the Battleground sets were going for $.50 to $.30 per figure at several tables at the recent Columbus Show. After that there were few real bargains available.
