Project Prikaz New Russian Company

Project Prikaz New Russian Company, Roman from Russia has informed us of a new company making figures.  They are Project Prikaz. According to Roman their first offering is Russian strelets soldiers for second half of 17th Century. A strelet soldier was a basic soldier. he would be the equivlent of a private.

The set has three different poses two standing firing rifle and keeling firing the rifle.Project Prikaz New Russian Company

The Russian Strelet standing firing rifle are basically the same pose. The difference is one standing firing has a berdysh a type of axe.  Other standing firing figure has a sword.

Project Prikaz New Russian Company Cost and Set Makeup

Roman told me the maker is a professional historian. The maker is also reenactor of the era he is now producing in plastic.

The sets are expensive. (2500 rubles per set of 5 figures which is approx. 43 USD).

Project Proikaz is offering three different sets

  1. Set one is five strelet soldiers standing firing rifle with sword
  2. Next set is two standing strelet soldiers standing firing rifle with berdysh (axe) and three strelet soldiers kneeling firing rifle
  3. Final set is three strelet soldiers standing firing rilfe with berdysh (axe) and two strelet soldiers kneeling firing rifle.

While I was not give any price on the erxpanded set, I figure it is twice the price of the other sets.

Project Prikaz New Russian Company Final Comments

Roman wrote to me the price is high but these sets are limited runs and  are doing periods of history that people in Russia want.

Roman als said the figures are made of very soft plastic. He said is was very close to the material Conte used.

As soon as we have source for these figures we will let you know. They may also show up on Ebay.

Not my cup of tea at those prices, but if you want them, you’ll pay for them.

Funny how the Russian makers are allowing the market to set the prices.

    How capitalistic of them!!

  2. Mark T. says:

Very nice, detailed figures. If they were lower priced, I would probably buy at least one set in spite of not really having an interest in the period. The shape of the bases and the poses makes these figures remind me of the old Britain’s Deetail range, although they were painted with metal bases.

I often wonder, if these expensive Russian figures were priced half as much, maybe they would sell quadruple or more the sets they do? Is it really necessary to price them so high to cover manufacturing costs?

    • Yes, the price does have to be high to cover the cost of short runs, they don’t need to quadruple the amount they sell because they can already sell all they can make even at the high unit price. With these small companies it’s all about how many pieces they can make not how many they can sell, that’s how the equation works for them.

I’m in to 18th and 19th Century warfare and when I go into a war or an army I go large or I leave it be. Again, for me, the price of these guys make them problematic for one who likes to do battles of the era as the tactics of the day called for mass formations of troops operating as one – it’s hard to build a large army required to represent the warfare of the era at those costs. But if you just want a set for a collection I guess it’s fine.

Thanks for posting up all the latest figures from around the world . This site is a good source of information. I like these figures.

  5. r smith says:

Nice sculpts as the Russki plastics are but the rubles are nyetski,,its because of the Russian media popularity these days,,cant putin do us a favor and collude lower prices?

  6. ed borris says:

Impressive looking sculpts, I wish the Russians liked the Alamo as I have no use for these figures.

  7. Darren Hatley says:

Nice looking figures although they are not the Era that I collect, But even if they did do the Eras that I collect I probably wouldn’t pay these prices unless the figures were Fantastic and I just couldn’t resist. Prices seem to be going up all the time, Especially from Russia?

  8. Edward L Bearnson says:

    Dear Group,
Keep us posted. Those prices are very high! I wonder what other periods they will cover.
Keep us posted as where to obtain them. Thanks, Ed Bearnson. 7-12-17.

  9. Mark T. says:

They aren’t even the most expensive Russian figures out there. That would be the “Alliance of the Free” limited edition fantasy sets. Shaun at The Fantasy Toy Soldier website says that he was told that those figures would be sold at $150 per set of 5 (plus a couple of small accessories and cards). Wow.

  10. Erwin says:

Short run Is only way to survive in this hobby as off now and future unless millionaire and or willing spend a lot to recover in long way.
Replicant that does not quite detailed figures had survived since early 90s.While almost all long run makers are legend now.
And those left strugling or barrely making any.
Russian like or not are making better and faster using this short run limited mold sets and selling well at those high mark price
It looks that there is still a large market x high priced plastic figures…
During the Soviet era their plastic soldiers/ figures sets were not at ALL cheap versus the system countries standar salary and few children could have then compereto here in US or west .

    My thought.
    Best.

  11. Erwin says:

Yet while I undetstand the high price reason this particular set has is made as to form firing lines that is not economic possible .
So not well though by maker as contrary to Plubius making 5 poses sets x 45/50 .That sale well…
Also the pose is direct extracted from metal cast pose made sice 2008 and sold often on ebay.
Same way (not name company) from Russia is making the extracted poses sets.
    Best.

  12. Mark McNamara says:

    Nice !

  13. Don Perkins says:

Bill Murphy quotes Richard Conte as saying (a few years back): “The way to make a LITTLE money in the toy soldier business is to start out with ALOT.”

  14. Ed Connell says:

The problem with high prices on miniatures, is like the rest of the commodities of today.
Many businesses are pricing them selfs right out of the market. I don’t have to have miniatures. Its getting tough to afford food. Wait till a loaf of bread gets to be a days wage, its not going to be long now.

  15. Mike Blake says:

Lovely lovely figures. I do this era, and am building Russian and Ottoman forces. These are therefore ideal for me. Will I buy them? Certainly enough for one unit, which would be 3 sets.
My thoughts on the price. I understand the natural focus on the purchase price. But there is another way of looking at VFM – Total cost of ownership. Over here, UK, a packet of cigarettes has reached nearly £10GBP. Some people smoke 4 packs a day, 40GBP gone up in smoke.
That same amount would buy a set of figures – providing years of pleasure. Say I enjoy them for 10 years (as I hope at least to do!) – total cost of ownership of my 3 sets is 120GBP over 10 years = 12GBP a year, ie 1GBP per month. That sounds pretty reasonable to me.

  16. Wayne W says:

I see both Ed and Mike’s point of view. Though my wife and I ended up pretty comfortable in our retirements it is still hard for me to justify the cost of some of these figures – at the same time I’ve used the same logic Mike uses in justifying what I do spend. And I have told my wife, “Well, I don’t smoke or drink and I COULD go out and spend a couple grand on a “john boat” to spend days away on the river fishing (that would be an empty threat as since leaving the Army I’ve avoided all activities that involved blood…) so I have a couple hobbies/activities that are relatively inexpensive when one considers the alternatives. Though I HAVE mentioned a Harley Tryke…

As for Conte, he DOES seem to have disappeared, but in a way, what he said is somewhat true. Just yesterday I was on ebay checking out his ebay store. It seems he still has a very large stock of some of his sets and is doing a much reduced business selling them on ebay. I only wish he’d do a new run of his WW2 sets – particularly the GIs, they seem to be much in demand.
