Plastic Showcase Italy Other Figures

Plastic Showcase Italy Other Figures we look at some interesting figures from Italy. If there is room I will show some other figures.  So let’s get started.

Plastic Showcase Italy Other Figures Italy

Plastic Showcase Italy Other FiguresThe first photo shows two of Cane of Italy 54mm North and South. According to an Atlantic collectors web site this is the second set that Cane had done cavalry figures. The first set was done in 1971 was copies of the Britains cavalry.  The second set was done in 1974. Cane had the figures  scuplted  by a E. Simonetti. Simonetti also did the scuplting of all the Cane figures which were not  copies of other figures. He also was the scupltor for Fontanni. The set had six different figures.

This three piece variation is based on the Atlantic Davey Crockett. In the Atlantic version you had a pioneer stabbing a Mexican  with a bayonet rifle and the pioneer firing into the air.   This version I believe done by Coma reverse the position of the two pioneers. They added a bear. Finally they changes the arm position of of the pistol pioneer to pointing down.

We are going to look at a series of figures that I have picked up. As I mention before I am more interested in poses than trying to complete a series.  Also there may be ony one figure of the set available. The majority of my figures have been purchased at show or flea markets.

The figure on the left is a Indian like a Huron. The figure might be Spanish made. The pirate is semi flat and I believe is Manurba.

In this photos we have a fantasy figure on the left. It looks like Indian man with a club.  The knight is hard plastic and was made in Germany.  The knight was made by a company called Miniplast.  I got him in the United States possible at the York Toy show.

The Cane set is actually designed and made as for US cavalry, officer being Custer.
Later painted sold and not painted in grey blue as for civil war as many brands had done.
The fact that first (70 mm )set is considered base in Britain in dubious to me ,I have then and will send pictures.
The set mold was then sold and appear being sold under other makers/brands by 70/80s with some being pack from France and Spain. “The figures are still around easy under other brand and or loose lots.
Both Barabelli and Tibidabo ,plus PRB had sold the CANE last production too as well in their packing from late 80s till early 90s .
I had done a CANE history recollection and will send to Admin soon if interested ,it was posted in other two blogs already too.
All information is extracted from two books and blogs, pictures from my sets and others where all sets are seen.
    Best regards.

Not overly fond of the cavalry poses, but the sculpting looks well done or at least fully cooked.

I like the cavalry with the pistol. Not excited with the “Custer” figure. There is a pose of a kepi with a winchester. I forget the other poses. I have seen so many figures they become a blur.

I almost bought a blister pack of Cane Union soldiers a few months ago on eBay. The sculpting is very well done but the figures look sort of… I don’t know… “Effeminate”, I guess would be the best word. They might go with Atlantic but they just look too dainty and delicate to put alongside the cavalry troopers from most other companies. Union and Confederate were the same poses, just blue and grey. I think most of the poses are here: http://thumbs1.picclick.com/d/l400/pict/152174380776_/Soldatini-Nordisti-e-sudisti-1-32-simonetti-can%C3%A8.jpg

Just missing one.I call that style renasince sculpture. Ironiclevthe real fontanini set (I have) had less style.
I had sent entire Cane collection pictures w history to Admin already….
          Best…

I agree they are nice sculpts, but the officers look like they are dancing around the May pole or something.

The orange fantasy figure is a caveman from the “Cavemen Vs. Armymen” tube that was at WalMart a few years ago along with “Pirates Vs. Ninjas” etc.

Another set for to look for but not pay crazy money. I figure I got it in a junk box.

      • Mark T. says:

They were only $5.00 when new, but I haven’t seen them in WalMart for about 2 or 3 years now. The cavemen were kind of cool, but the army men were just inferior TimMee Vietnam clones like they still sell on cards in the cheap section of WalMart’s toy department.

I found a video review on Youtube so you can see all the poses.

The Huron type Indian is from France by (COLORADO) there I think 7 more pose(NO all same type ) in set and also mounted poses set plus canoe seated poses.
I have not information if they were copied by some body else. But I have later reissues made not painted in yellow and other colors .
    Best…

    • Mark T. says:

There’s something so weird looking about that Huron. It’s the shape of his head. He looks more like a post-apocalyptic mutant than a Huron.

      • erwin says:

To be honest, yes I agree, it looks funny looking.
Yet other poses of same set haven then better in my opinion, but the actual face is same. The paint too could/may give more bad impression some times.
It is not first time paint sloppy job in figures looks grotesque too
        Best…

I brought the Orange Cavemen a few years ago, Nice looking figures in Good poses but are quite short with very small legs. So I did as ive done on many other figures with small legs. I cut the legs off and Converted them onto longer legs so that they are more 1/32 scale and I think they look much better. Ive come across Many cool figures that do have a tendency to have funny looking small legs which ive never understood, But im not to bothered and I will just keep converting.

    • erwin says:

Darren I think these cavemen were still under evolution process !!!
I agree in the funny short legs, I had seen it too.
Dimension in body had been since early figures a main issues .Some times one arms is way longer the other or hands too…
If poses are crouching, prone or running the proportion in legs many time is wrong depicted as artist barely use a sample image or else and do not care much .
I still see this in even new expensive production some times…
But I bet good conversion could update and fix the problem..
      Looking forward see your conversion…
      Best..

  6. Darren Hatley says:

I would love to show you my Cavemen conversions Erwin, Perhaps on here if its ok with Paul sometime. As you know I mainly collect Fantasy Ancient & Medieval figures as ive mentioned before, But I also collect Cavemen/Ninja/Pirates/Superhero figures as they can fit nicely in with my main collections I find, Well in my mind anyway? As I say if I buy figures and I think I can improve them in some way I will Convert or Paint them as ive done with many figures now.

Life in prehistoric times was nasty, brutal and short and so were most of the people !

  8. denitz says:

Semi-flat kneeling pirate is italian made. Sometime it referred to “Torgano”, but blistercard with same style Alpini marked as “Balu”.
