Readers Plastic Figure Contributions Part Two

Readers Plastic Figure Contributions Part Two  I am trying to clear up some other contributions from our readers. First up is from Rick Fisher. He had a ninja he wanted identified. While I was able identified the ninja, it brought up another question. Next I have some photos from Billy Hill. Back when I did the article on fantasy figures in Michael’s craft store Billy sent photos of  how he uses them.  Erwin has some more photos of the IDL Animals.  If you remember I got one some months back. Interestingly there had been a question on who made them. We will solve that mystery.  Plus I will show some figures from my sales.

Readers Plastic Figure Contributions Part Two  Rick Fisher

Readers Plastic Figure Contributions Part Two Rick Fisher sent me some photos of ninjas that he got from UK. I recognized them immediately as done by a company called Mouldie Oldies.  I was the one who dound them. On one of our trips to the Plastic Warrior  show we went to Chesthunt for a toy show. At the show I met the owner of the company. I bought from him ninjas and space women.  The space women were terrible, yet they sold. If anyone has one please send a picture.

Readers Plastic Figure Contributions Part Two In the article on Plastic figures from Germany we looked at one of the 70mm Elastolin swoppet figures, Here we have one of the 54mm figures. Since they did not have the over moulding machines like Timpo, Elastolin would print parts in one color. So you would have black for boots and blue for the pants.  The hair is a separate piece too.

Here we have some of the IDL animals. IDL did other animal series including circus and farm.

One thing Erwin uncovered is that each figure not only has the name of IDL and Hong Kong. It has a different number for each figure.

There seems to be some confusion with some people that marking is LP for Lucky Products.  We will have to disagree as you can see.

Finally we have some color matched Marx 54mm marines and army.

Someone talked about the old days of lists. As one of the leading producers of lists, I can say those days are gone. With Ebay I can reach a wider audience for lower costs.   I can and have bought an item in the afternoon listed it by evening and have it sold in the next 20 minutes. It has been tougher on Ebay these last few years.  I have not figure what I need to do go with the change.

I have more poses of those ninjas ,my first come from stads, others from good friend from Germany Markus, they are very nice done, but hands/weapons are delicate as are plug in parts.

Some poses appear to be extracted from Hong Kong 80s ninjas poses.
I like how well the SAFARI fantasy I saw at craft stores looks next to Greeks, well done Andy!!
Well in swoppet Elastolin are the less I got ,that could be a good hunt one day if I can afford then.
So far few knights only is what I have in swoppet Elastolin.
Thanks to this picture from stads sales I recognize where the cat I got is from ,MPC!!
I got it mix with others in one lot and could not figured out..
    Best.

Ok…great Bill ,awesome work then!!!.They looks realistic.
I had bough then when sent to admin the info with that intention.
they looks nice in scale with 60-70 mm human figures I think!!
Sorry in confusing, I’m sure admin just mix up the names while writing the post …

Some more info on the Ninjas.
I talked with the owner of Moulded Oldies at a Birmingham Toy Soldier show in the early 90’s and he told me they were a special commission for a collector in Germany. The poses and plug-ins were the customers idea.
He had to make more figures than required, to make sure he had enough good ones to fill the order and he got permission to sell off any extras.
When I met him he only had a few bodies left, no plug-in hands.
I do not know who the German collector was and I had not seen them for sale anywhere at the time or since.

      • admin says:

Thanks for the information. I bought from him one or two times that I can think of so long ago. I don’t remmber him mentioning that he made them for someone

        Les
Thank you x information and interesting.
Would the maker ever venture in any other production for some body else !?

Markus from Germany that write here may know something too ,from him I got few last poses.
So may be he can tell more about !?
        Hope so …

        • Les White says:

          Erwin,
Yes, the maker would make for someone else under a private commission, at that time.
I asked him for a quote on making a one piece figure and he wanted to know how much I was intending to sell a single figure for before he would give me a quote.
This seemed odd to me so I suggested a price and his price was half of that, I got the impression that what ever price I mentioned he would always be half of it. Except if it was too low, but he still wouldn’t give enough details.
He also made spare parts for the Britains Swoppett ACW and AWI lines but the quality was variable from hard to brittle.
I understood that his process was hand made using a similar machine to Replicants.
I do not know if this maker still exists, he may be retired now as it was a long time ago.
          Best Regards,
          Les

          • Hi all, the German collector was a chap called Frank Beyster who gave me a set of the three ninjas in a prototype box to review for Plastic Warrior. Frank was a dealer at the time and big into selling Airfix as I recall, he used to be a regular at the shows but I haven’t seen him in many years now. He had high expectations for this set and planned to follow up with more but I think ninjas were old news by the time they came out and I don’t think he commissioned any other sets after this.

Will everyone settle down. I made the muistake and I am now correcting it

  3. Erwin says:

    Ebay is very odd.
I had see item listed x so long.
And then one day all got sold by a single buyer.
Others not and I list things will not though will just sold so quick.
Others listed very low and never sale.
As I do more x my dautger safe money than me I do not get that crazy but those who sale more I understand the issues.
Seems to me it depend in those looking at precise moment it Is listed.
When do relist I use northern eastern dalily hours sunday.
Base in my buyers high percentage and location.
    But just a quick tactic.
    Hard to guess…

  4. TDBarnecut says:

Thanks for posting the good photo of the Dom bison. I’d like to acquire a set of these but I guess they are hard to find. I have all the Atlantic bison poses.

    • Brian Johnson says:

Beton/Bergen make the best Buffalos IMHO.

      • Brian Johnson says:

        Britain’s are good too.

        • Erwin says:

Eladtolin and MAROLIN are great too in scale and poses.
The Dom Manurba and Atlantic plus most US brands are too small.

          • TDBarnecut says:

I like the Dom bison because of the variety of poses, with some other brands they have just a single pose and it is static, not running or moving. I thought the Barzso bison herd was interesting, but they all looked the same. In an actual herd you have bison of various sizes, ages and colors. The calfs are a light reddish tan, the adults dark brown.
