A Look at Germany company Koch and Hofmockel

A Look at Germany company Koch and Hofmockel  we look at a  small company from Germany. This company did some figures that collectors would like for the scenes.  Prior to the internet these figures did not reach the states unless people brought them back. Now they may be a little easier to find.  Erwin Sell  gives a short background.

A Look at Germany company Koch and Hofmockel

The company name is Koch und Hofmockel=KO-HO from Nurnberg Germany. The toys were sold in plastic pouches(bags) with a mixture of different other toys.  they werre also sold individually or in small lots at newspaper stands. They  were often wrapped in paper pouches (see pictures). Those pouches were called Wundertüten (=miracle pouches), as kids would find different kinds of small surprises in them.
They also did small plastic cars,VW vans and so on.

They did some sets or series figures and are hard to find complete. The sculpture and detail is often very good.Calamity Jane is one of them.

A Look at Germany company Koch and Hofmockel  My thoughts

These are interesting figures. The only one that I have seen over the years is the last one.  I have it classified as an Aztec with knife and shield. I was able to get a several of these to share with my readers of the old lists.  We will be looking if we can find other examples of this company. Mathias supplied the Aztec or Indian with knife or shield. The other photos are from Erwin.

A Look at Germany company Koch and Hofmockel

Markus Leclsheid sent this photo of another Koho figure western woman with two pistols. Also a hard plastic Indian done by Torgano Sarrono in about 70mm. An Italian company he wasn’t aware of (sounds to me like Italian Grappa spirit) but probably the Koho figure had been copied. Also made in about 30mm.

Theres that Aztec figure again in red that came up very recently, I think he looks great and I would love to own a few of these, What scale is this figure 54mm or 60mm ?

  2. Erwin says:

I belive “aztec” is only one and done as part of regular Indians
    Figures are about 60 mmm.
Few is know about poses they did.
I think they were never sold as full set.
But I could be wrong there.
There are some knights atributed to same brand but to another too .So not positive on knights.
    I got two.
    We need find out more.
There is two mounted cowboy poses too I got painted I got both and w original packing.ONE has it almost new.
I think Markus or Dittman may add more information if they may please.
    Thanks.
    Best regards.

Ok thanks for the info guys, I think this Aztec figure looks Great but I dont like the knife for a weapon. If I owned this figure I would probably convert the knife for a much bigger and exciting weapon.

    • Erwin says:

Yes I agree Darren. The knife is not giid enough.
The pose is abundant.Yet I had nit got it many times see it.
The other cowgirl and indian I got from a mix lot from germany.
      Unfurtunatelly some kids bite it.

      The indian .
It does represent more not an Aztec but more close to Mayan w mix from else.I can use x ancient by changing ir triming head feathers too.
      Any how is interesting.

  4. Darren Hatley says:

Well Inca works for me Erwin as much as Aztec, As we have discussed before there are not many Ancient South American figures around and I wish there were more. Probably the best ive seen are the Barszo Aztec figures and I would love to own those also, But ive rarely seen them and when I have they are quite expensive and ive been outbid on ebay, But hopefully one day i’ll get them including this German made Inca.

    • Erwin says:

Well.I got the complete Barzso playset. Only from Brazso I got w foam temples and all.
And I did not know were so limited done till years after when see then how high sale x.
I do sale the AMEX brand Aztecs and conquistadors I carry but too big x you scale. I have the early made in mexico set more in your scale but only few.
Other than those Reamsa big and french brand made.
There two more set vintage made by spaniards brands.
I got only one of those.
Few premiums from various brand had done aztecs but more in 54 mm and only one pose per brand as far I know.
Revell HO have a nice set of poses.
May be one day are done in 1:32.
      Will see…
      I have the early

Your lucky to have the whole set of Barszo Erwin, I think its worth alot of money now. Probably getting up towards £1000 or close to it. Yeah I would love to see some Inca Maya Aztec done in 54mm scale, But we shall just have to cross our fingers and wait and see.

I think I paid $150.00 at table in Chicago show when first come ou,mine is number 29 ,Barzso in person handed to me.
To be honest I like the figures but as resin not much quality in some poses.
The resin FIGURES in Barzso some time come with out skin arms and legs defect from mold .The set is 100% accurate in all design. The history wrote in box is baloney, but I do not care much about.
I saw one x sale bid that end in over 800 USD ,yes is insane .
So will have to wait .I know is not much interest in collectors as most wars were fought by one empire(Spain) ageist most other natives. Few by Portuguese and later French/Dutch with less by English much later of course.

But I notice war gamers does than a lot as a lot games out there too x it in computer.
It was in AIP company plan to do that war range ,but never materialized.
      best…

About two years ago I had a bunch of Barzso Aztecs and Conquistadors, sold them all on E-Bay for a pretty penny. They are nice figures some of his best.

Don’t know if anyone noticed But LOD is now selling the old Merry Men and Knights from Barzso’s Robin Hood set, looks like he had a run made recently, they are in LOD header bag. I saw it on Face book this morning or yesterday I forget which.

    • Erwin says:

Yes Admin mention LOD selling then not long ago.
In my case some of t he figures in playset I got come with bad defect.

    TORGANO UPDATE-
Sorano is a community or town area of Lombardy. Here is where the factory was first located .
They did Bakelite figures before transition to soft and hard plastic ..
A Flash Gordon set made in composition and then Bakelite is a holy grail among Italian and non Italian space collectors.
Just minor reference off my head with out looking books.
I know Torgano by my grandfather legacy.TORGANO was one of main composition first toy soldiers makers figures in ITALY from mid late 30s competing with ELASTOLIN and direct monetary supported under MUSOLINI .Many who collect composition should know it.
Among my grandfather collection I got several from them. They first copied Elastloin ,then went to do same poses with Italian soldiers from 30s till 1942 .
The figures in this period were made very military advertising of the moment.
They change to plastic and then took a pause by late 50s
They have several space figures in COMPOSITION first ,then plastic very high value among collectors.
They produce using same matrix of composition some plastic figures in 60s to 70s as well. Not military but western, knights,INCAS and others as far I know..
Several molds were sold to former EAST European included DDR-east Germany as well MEXICO and Brazil.
By late 60 to 70s the copied and also made a unique historical series mounted in pedestal base for ROMA and other cities museums.
more once I’m able read books.
    best..
