    Great!!!!
Well not my year .Hope they do great.
May be Darren could go this year!?

    • Darren Hatley says:

Hey Erwin I would like to go to this show as ive not been before and i know its world famous, I will have to see how im fixed for May?

      • admin says:

Darren the show would be good for you. First even though it has around 60 tables you will have a wide choices of material. It is one of the few shows in the world I can go around 20 times and still find something I miss. Second you will meet some of the people I have talked about in the pass such as Peter Bergner with his pound boxes. If you are into Replicants you can get them from Peter Cole and talk to an actual maker. The treasures you find can amaze you. The last PW Laurie and I were at, I got Timpo Hopalong Cassidy figure. It was not cheap, but it was one I was looking for. Finally you can get into the pub next door and talk to people.

        • Darren Hatley says:

Thanks for the info admin, Ive got most figures that i want i think? But as you rightly point out you never know what you might come across, And im sure there are many figures out there that i dont possess or even know about. Yes i will try to get there and at least experience it once. Although i was put off a bit by some dealers i talked to at the Skirmish toy soldier show as i mentioned before who told me that the Plastic Warrior show wasn’t as good as it used to be, But i guess i should go and see for myself. And of course i could always have a pint or 2 in the pub anyway.

Air fare is right now $856.00 round trip from the states. I remember when it was half that and better service.

  2. bill nevins says:

    One of these days…..

  3. ed borris says:

I would love to travel to Jolly Olde, but that air fare would certainly restrict my finacial capability.

    • admin says:

When I first did I thought I would only do it once. I got lucky and was able to do it more than I thought. Right now it has been too expensive with the airfare. I hope to get over in 2018. you should save for it and do it once. Mix seeing the sites and the show.

  4. ed borris says:

Well, if I live long enough, I’ll plan for it once my Social Security kicks in which will be the 3rd Wednesday of March this year. I’ll need a pub partner though.

I would urge anyone who is thinking of going to PW to go, especially those who live in the UK. It is only on once a year, (wish it were more), and is still by far the best show for plastics in the UK. If our hobby is going to survive we must support what is out there, or it will disappear. PW is a social event with many fellow collectors only too willing to discuss our hobby. It would be a sad world with just E bay and websites and you can’t beat seeing and handling figures before buying them. I have been to every PW show since the second one and taken a table from time to time to sell off my spares. Of course there have been changes over the years and many faces have disappeared. However there is still plenty there to get the plastic juices flowing. Steve Weston will have tables loaded with the latest offerings. Peter Cole will produce new sets especially for the show. There will be everything from bargain boxes to rummage through, to expensive boxed sets. Hopefully there will be a few surprises and the odd rare figure to go into my collection. Darren, just go, and make up your own mind as to whether the trip is worth it or not. If you fancy a drink and a chat there, let me know.

would agree iif I lived in the UK, I would plan to go. I have had a lot of fun over the years. You never know what you will find.

  6. Jack Gibbons says:

Speaking of British dealers I just received the Harfield’s e-newsletter. They announced that they are retiring and closing down the business. I have bought from them over the years, and will miss the list where I could find quirky and interesting European figures.

I have traveled to Britain and France three times in the past two years. Not only is it much more expensive but the security makes the TSA look like pikers. It really has become unfun to fly.

    Darren
With the venerable Paul Morehead and the Dynamic Brian Carrick I am one of the founders of the PW show and I would like to extend to you a personal invitation and at least one pint on the 13th of May

  8. Darren Hatley says:

Thanks very much, I will try to make it this year, But sometimes things crop up with family and health which i cant get out of. If i can go i will take a look at the route and see how best to get there and back as i live just outside London. I’m out of work at the moment so money is very tight. As ive mentioned before ive been to Toy Soldier shows over the last 15 years or so, Mainly Skirmish which is very close to me and ive seen a big decline in the show, But i dont mean any disrespect to the organisers, But if theres one show i would like to attend in Britain its the PW show.

    • Hi Darren, we (the Plastic Warrior team) helped Andy Harfield to establish the Skirmish show and in the early years most of the stalls there were taken by 54mm dealers who were the contacts that we gave him. However, Andy’s main business is in selling 1/72 figures and inevitably over the years Skirmish has increasingly become a venue for wargames figures. As mentioned somewhere above Andy is now retiring completely and has sold his show on, I’ve heard that it is being taken over by one of the modern metal figure manufacturers who wants to take it back to a 54mm show but it will probably be King & Country type metal collectors stuff.

I have to admit that the PW show is not what it was in it’s heyday and the same must be said of the Birmingham and Central London shows (both of which we also helped to establish) because the simple fact is that we are all getting older/less mobile and sadly we have also lost many of the stalwarts who so actively supported the hobby in earlier years.

That said, on a more positive note the PW show remains the place you are most likely to find something unusual for your collection and even if you don’t it’s greatest attraction has always been as the meeting place for like minded collectors to reacquaint with old friends and make new ones.

I think that if the day ever comes when there aren’t enough of us left standing to justify the cost of putting on a show we’ll still make the effort to get together for an informal meeting in a pub to swap stories and figures.

      Best wishes, Brian

      • Darren Hatley says:

Yeah thanks Brian, As i said ive been going to Skirmish since the early days and I thought it was Brilliant. I collect plastic 1/32 scale Ancient, Medieval and Fantasy figures and there were plenty of figures for me to look at and buy from many dealers from Britain and abroad, And I used to spend hours looking at figures and talking to the dealers, And I’d go home with bags full of figures. However sadly as the years went by more dealers stopped going, The venue got smaller, And yes I totally agree with you that I noticed there were more 1/72 scale figures, Metal figures, And Wargamers which are not for me, And the last few times I went I was round it in 20 minutes, The dealers that I new and talked to weren’t there anymore and i went home with nothing or a couple of figures. So to be honest i havent been now for the last 2 shows. As i said no ones to blame and i dont mean to upset anyone, Its just a sign of the times, But i wish it all the best for the future.
Yes ive heard alot about the PW show and how good it is, And even if its not as good as it was I would still like to go and see it for myself, And im sure there would be some Jewels to find to add to my collection, And as you say we could always have a pint or 2 in the pub there.

  9. john cross says:

Darren, if you live near to the skirmish show you must live in Kent. I drive from Essex and can come through the dreaded tunnel and could possibly pick you up. Paul has my permission to give you my E Mail address, (if he would be so kind), and you can contact me directly if you wish. John.
