Allentown and Delaware

On Saturday April 11, I did round two of the indoor garage sale at my local fairgrounds. I did not expected much, but because it was so close, I did the show. When I got there the crowd waiting to get in  was the smallest I had ever seen about ten people.  I waited in line and walked in when the doors opened at 8:00AM.  The show had a wide range of items, but the pickings for plastic were as before were slim. I saw one dealer with the same plastic items he had at the last show.  This time one of the dealers had a basket  with some bags of Marx figures.  I pulled out the ones I could used and headed home. The bags were interesting as the person had group some the figures by color. In one bag was light gray Germans and confederates showing the person did not know history. Also odd in the bags was the person had three Deluxe Reading figures all the same pose.

On Sunday April 12th, Laurie and I went to a toy show down in Delaware. We like this show as it gives us a different mix of dealers .  The ride is pleasant and all super highways.  We got at the show 20 minutes before it opened and waited for it to open. Once it was ten, we headed for the door to the show. The ladies manning the entrance recognize us and knew we came from Pennsylvania and called us frequent fliers.  I stopped to tell our very good friend Gerry Watts that we were at the show and we headed to the main room. In the second row, I found a dealer who had a bag of light gray Airfix Germans copies from Hong Kong. There was no price on the bag so I asked the dealer. He responded they were a dollar each.  I  immediately  return the bag to the table and  decided against looking at any of his other figures.  Heading down the road I found a dealer with three junk bags. which I bought.

Going through the aisles we found another dealer with baskets of figures and other items. I pulled out some items  from the baskets and  was told the person whose baskets they were was away from the table.  While we were waiting for the person I noticed the dealer next to them had a model box full of Airfix figures. I asked for a price found it very acceptable.  By this time the person own the figures had returned and gave us a price which I had figured I would pay. In this lot I got the Hong Kong Copies of the Britains Herald Robin Hood, Archer space woman and a weird alien.

Two more rows we ran into our very good friend Tom Black. We met Tom years ago and always enjoy going through his plethora of items. This time he did not have anything for me, but he had something for Laurie. She got from Tom two dinosaurs and  Warner Brothers Tasmanian Devil glass. The two dinosaurs were made by a company called Shekel from Pittsburgh PA. Tom had not seen them before and could find very little on them.

From Tom, we went to the end of the show and saw Carey where I got some Timpo cavalry. He said that he was holding items for Gettysburg and West Virginia . West Virginia  is home territory for him and his family will have a reunion while he was in West Virginia for the Marx Meet

We headed back to talk to Gerry Watts and we ran into our very good friend Don Ducotte of Heritage Toy Soldiers.  Don was looking at a dealer boxes of Marx.  I asked on his business. He said he had not done anything new as his machines are in Florida. He has present product for sale.  Getting back Gerry and his tables., I looked over his wares. Gerry had mostly toys, but I did  find a few things. Gerry asked if I had seen some playset boxes on the stage. The playset boxes were of Them and other movies.  I had not yet gone up on the stage to look at those dealers so I went over. I took one look at them and realize they were made up boxes.  I did not see the front so I do not know if they were by Ron Lizorty or someone else as I had no interest in them.  I report back to Gerry my findings  and after we talked some more we headed out.

One thing that has stayed in my mind from my father is went you go to a show, you eat good after.  We had found by accident an authentic Mexican restaurant in this farmers market which is near the show.  The food is fresh and we usually get the soft shell tacos with various fixings. If this place was closer we would be a regular.

The show itself we saw a number of people taking items out.  This show is heavy in action figures, but there is a nice mix of other items to make it worthwhile. There were a few dealers missing which could have been due to the dealers taking advantage of the nice weather and doing the outside shows. We will be back to their October show.
