Update from Sell Toys

We have just received  an update from Sell Toys  on some of your questions you asked about their new vehicle.

It is not a 100% replica/kit/else, but a very close model/toy

Correct German name (Jag panzer IV (Sd.Kfz.162/1 V))

It was in purpose order/produced by me to have early (Sd.Kfz.16)2exhaust to accommodate together by just cutting length of cannon barrel to be used as early type with (with 7.5 cm Pak 39 L/48 cannon) Or Late model first batch production that used same (BACK) exhaust system with longer cannon (same caliber- Pak 42 L/70 gun) as the one done by me. = ( Sd.Kfz.162/1 V). Using same early exhaust/ chassis with very simple field modification 467 WERE DONE OUT OF OVER 930 According to MUNSTER/PANZER MUSEUM/GERMANY= Deutsches Panzermuseum.

Max high Size on this TOY  is7” not 8” The size was an  increase by 2-7 (mm) approximately all around purposely in order to accommodate New TSSD,FORCES OF VALOR AND CTS figures done in 1.30 scale not 1.32.

Description say Panzer (next in English) German tank destroyer/same as (- Jag panzer).

I did an extensive research with museums and curators and in order to accommodate a toy in the two more produced versions and decided to do in this way that once again 467 were done as it is shown ( if you are  looking the back engine exhaust)!!. If not then over 930.All to give toy soldier collector a small run to accommodate to models in one with just very minor/easy to do adaptation!!

Variant (Panzer IV/70 (A) (Sd.Kfz.162/1)).Please note (A) had a different superstructure that made it look 40cm taller and different .This is the one only from 200-300 were done.

In other words if not that picky about looking the back exhaust, this variant was the most produce/used out of the 4 done.

TSSD, FORCES OF VALOR, 21 CENTURY, BRITAIN, ESCI, DULCOP, CTS, CONTE and others figures for size/scale. As you can see the different sizes of the various companies, some are over 60 mm others less than 54 mm.

Thank you for your time and hope enjoy the new armor and future release.

Why the color choice!!

From The curator of Munster museum.

On October 31st of 1943, OKH ordered another new color scheme to be introduced. Dark olive green (RAL 6003) was the base color with dark yellow (RAL 7028) and red brown (also known as dark chocolate brown) (RAL 8017). Sometimes red brown (RAL 8017) was replaced with “brick” red brown (dark red) (RAL8012) color. Similar case was with dark green (RAL 6002) and dark olive green (RAL 6003). Also due to overall shortages, many vehicles were only painted in overall base dark yellow (RAL 7028) and dark green (RAL 6002).

Please Google RAL 6002 AND 6003) colors for reference, thank you.

There were SO many variants, some caused by shortages, some for technical improvements. I think most of us can live with just calling it a Jagdpanzer IV where at least we know there was close to 900 produced, rather than worry about which little variant it might be. I do know of them largely coming out of the factory in dark yellow as abase coat, and in some places in the last 2 months of the war with reddish primer coating. The camo was applied at the unit level, usually by the crew. As was stated; Dark yellow, a forest or more olive green and a brown to red-brown color. The base color also looks more tan or peachy in some pics, likely due to weathering or variation in shades due to war-time shortages. If I get these, I will be painting them dark grey just because they are toys and they will go with my figures and other pieces of armor.

More accurate data should be found as follow/link
According to historical data and by looking this model as it look similar to the following model of which following quantities were done.
    Jagdpanzer IV
    (Sd.Kfz.162) January – November 1944 769
    Jagdpanzer IV/70(V)
    (Sd.Kfz.162/1) August 1944 – March(April) 1945 930(940)
Total of 1699 vehicles were done as showed in picture of new release.
No counting the model Jagdpanzer IV/70(A) that was a slightly modified Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) superstructure (Ubergangsaufbau – transitional superstructure) mounted directly on unmodified PzKpfw IV Ausf H/J chassis/hull. The difference was that there was a vertical section in the lower part of the superstructure instead of being sloped. Alkett’s design was easier to manufacture but it also significantly increased the height by 50cm (1.85m of Vomag model vs. 2.35m of Alkett model). Just as in IV/70(V) main gun had that was 40-50 cm high .Additional 278 were done in this middle/late summer 1944 till 1945.
Please also refer in following link how it was also called as Panzer IV/70) Sd. Kfz. 162/1 – 75mm L/70

REGARDLESS, I’m super excited to build my tank collection,
especially with tanks that have not yet been done by the other companies.

Will you be releasing a list of other future tank releases?

  4. Tom Black says:

The hobby needs for WW2 some Brit Tanks and other vehicles like the Bren Gun Carrier and Armored cars from both USA and Britain. A Japanese Chi-Ha and some French 1940 Tanks. Some post War/Korean War Tanks. As well as Tanks, Helicopters, and Fast Boats from the Vietnam War.

  5. Ed Connell says:

Hey as long as fits with figures, is the most important thing imo. I never liked when the vehicles were too small, that goes for buildings as well. Like door ways, or tower walls and crenellations.

I DID in fact make a mistake. I misread ‘Caliber’ for Millimeter’ Yes, the longer gun was on the later version and it was taller. When reading about it, I had expected it to be expressed in the German term L70 but the author for that instance alone wrote ‘cal. 70’ .

OK, so my apologies for getting the versions reversed. We DO agree it’s a Jagdpanzer IV, and that’s the important part. I’d only ever seen the term ‘Panzer IV/70 used by video gamers (my son) and I would tell him, “That’s Guderian’s Duck!”
