My Health Update

I am slowly regaining my strength. Since my operation, I have been using a walker. With help from my outside physical therapist Maria, I can now use a cane or even do some walking without any device. Still, there is more therapy coming for my right knee for arthritis. Also, I have to deal with diabetes and a foley bag. Another thing I am dealing is dealing with a change in my lifestyle. Until the accident, I was independent, now I depended on grocery apps, etc. One of my biggest problems was getting a dog walker for the boys. That got solved only a week ago.

I am ready for what laays ahead.

That Dr. Syn is one creepy lookin’ dude! Quite the cool plastic figures though. Hang in there, Paul. You are a survivor!

  5. rahway says:

The three English civilians may be the three main Scarecrow characters in their “daytime” clothes.

  6. david carpenter says:

Thanks for this information Paul. Hope you continue to get stronger. Is there a way to contact Serhiy to oder these figures? thanks Dave carpenter

  7. Richard E Mellon says:

Where do I go to order these …

  8. rahway says:

    Contact Serhiy Marchenko at marksergeyev1967@gmail.com

He will advise you on pricing, shipping cost and color options.

If you are in the US payment is through UK collector Anthony Arcari via PayPal.

You can also pay Serhiy’s accountant via Western Union, but this will be more expensive.

Slow but sure is the course. Hang in there Paul.

I loved the “Scarecrow” when I was a kid. I’ve been looking for it on DVD, BluRay or whatever for years – almost enough to pop for this set. I agree, not my style or scale. Rick is doing it again with his Romans. As usual, beautifully realized.

    • Biff Smith says:

Amazon has in DVD both the 1937 “Doctor Syn” and Disney’s “Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh,” and I will certainly want to view that one! I wonder if the 1937 one was any inspiration for Bob Kane’s & Bill Finger’s villain The Scarecrow from 1941? Great topic to post, Paul!!

  10. Craig W. Scribner says:

Now I can’t get the “Scarecrow” theme song out of my head.
    It went something like:
    “Scarecrow, Scarecrow,
The soldiers of the King feared his name,
    Scarecrow, Scarecrow,
The country folk all loved him just the same.”
I didn’t try to look it up to verify the lyrics,
but the song brings back lots of fun memories of watching Disney’s “The Wonderful World of Color” as a boy.

    • Wayne W says:

Craig, I was resisting the temptation to write the lyrics to the theme because I was afraid I’d forgotten them. What a blast from the past.

Biff, thanks for the info on the DVD. I’ve had the Scarecrow on my Amazon wishlist for years. I’m going to check it out.

  11. Mark McNamara says:

    Stay positive Paul !

    Greetings from Tejas!
What a great playset idea — completely out of left field! Reminds me of a Barzo playset. I love the idea of the free downloads for buildings. Any other new “toy sojer” makers listening? They don’t have to be free– it’s just a great marketing idea like sending in cereal boxtops for a cardboard cabin when we was kids.
Like Craig, I vividly remember watching Disney’s colorful presentations. And that dramatic opening song. The “Scarecrow” was exciting and a bit spooky. The song really stuck in my head for all these years. I recreated (as best as I could) the mill/barn/hideout using Lincoln Logs (good luck wi’dat!). I only had a few Timpo British soldiers and some Timmee pioneers, but I was happy.

Anyhow, YouTube has the opening sequence (very long compared to shows these days!) and a few minutes of Part One. I was surprised that Dr. Syn/The Scarecrow was played by the ultra-intense Patrick McGoohan (oops. Spoiler Alert, heh, heh). BUt good casting, for sure!
rahway’s subtle observation is correct. If you watch the video, the figures are clearly based on the “daytime job” characters.

I’m glad so many people are posting on this great site. Paul and Laurie did a marvelous service all these years of connecting collectors and showcasing so many fun figures.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Paul!

  17. Al says:

    Hi Paul ,

Thanks for all the great info on these new figures. They fill some interesting areas of history and legend. Wow, the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, it can not get better than that.

I hope you are getting along alright.

    Best Wishes
