March Figure Odds Ends Marlborough

March Figure Odds Ends, we start off with an update of the Marlborough 24th Foot from Markus Lecksheid. Markus shows a new tank he found. Rahway gives an update on BMC’s Female Army Figures.

March Figure Odds Ends Marlborough 24th Foot

March Figure Odds Ends
Our very good friend Markus Lecksheid share with us the other two poses did the 24th Foot. The other poses are kneeling with a bayonet rifle and standing firing rifle.
Marlborough zulus
Markus also sent a photo of the Marlborough Zulus. There are four poses.
1. Standing with rifle raised wearing a British redcoat
2. Standing with shield out in the left hand and a spear pointing down in the right hand
3. Zulu advancing a club in the right hand and shield in the left hand
4. Crawling with spear
Markus noted that the maker of these figures was Steve Morris of Marlborough Models. He noted the different colors of brown and black. The red version is very interesting.

A French Tank

Markus included a find of last weekend. Maybe the winner of the prize for one of the ugliest war toys ever made. Made in France indicated but I have no idea on the maker. Machine gun terrible oversized. Markus put up on 70mm NVA of Eastern German production for comparison plus some plastic paras I did also find at the flea market. He had someĀ as a kid but of course the parachute and shortly after that figures got lost. Kind of surprise that maybe some had been made recently.

Update on BMC Female Army Figure Project

BMC Figure Project
Rahway clued us in that BMC has done an update on Plastic Army Woman Project. According to the report, all the figures have been sculpted. Everything is on track to be released in October. Jeff is planning on setting up a shop for the backer it has been delayed. I am sure these figures will be welcome.

I have those Marlborough Figures in my collection but can’t remember if there were three or four poses of 24th Foot. I bought them over twenty years ago. I’m thinking there was some sort of hand-to-hand pose, but it’s been at least a decade since I’ve been able to get them out and look at them. I’m going to be digging around my storage so I might be able check.

The zulu with red coat is a zulu with former british 24th soldier coat and rifle after killed at Isandlwana. Many zulus did capture and use the coat and rifles in following battles during short v bloody war ..
Set is one of only made in old era plastic and thankfully recast after till ACTA,Conte ,AIP and EXF come with much more poses sets

The armored car looks funny still interesting ,they probably try do a far version of Panhard AML series ,
The place where they put (made in France) words looks very unusual and curious to me for toy vehicle .
      Nice find Markus !!!

Glad Jeff is doing female military figures. Let’s hear it for the girls!! (and Jeff!)

  4. Christian Aldo says:

Because there is such a surging untapped market of female toy soldier collectors out there?? Figures not even based on a particular war?
Nice concept, sounds like a money pit to me.
    Better get a GRANT!

    • Mark T. says:

They seem to be aimed at little girls to use as toys rather than collector’s items. A little girl’s letter is what sparked the whole thing. And he is getting a ton of publicity for his company. This story has been all over the news in the last few months. Whether or not there are enough little girls out there who want these remains to be seen.

      • Mark T. says:

Plus, by the time the figures come out, the original little girl who asked will probably have moved on from toy soldiers to boys and iPhones.

      • Alex Baldwin says:

Mark nailed it on the head. Publicity is what Jeff wants. I must admit I’ve not been a fan since a few years back when he came to the Chicago Toy Soldier Show just to demo his product and not to actually sell any of it. He sold product to vendors/dealers but when it came time for the show he wasn’t actually selling anything. I came to buy multiple sets of his Juno Beach bagged figure sets and walked away with a single bag that I got from Mike Kutnick. I was beyond angry. He did the same thing the last few years but it didn’t matter because I wasn’t looking to buy from him anyway. Most of the time there are so many dealers with better product (new and old) that he is an afterthought anyway.

I have those Marlborough Zulus and 24th foot. I bought a set through the mail back in the 1990s from Stone Castle. For some reason, I did not get any of the Zulu with the knobkerrie club. Nice figures, but I hated the hard, brittle plastic. They work OK with AIP but are kind of simplistic beside the Conte and Ex Force Zulu War figures.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Mine are soft plastic as i bend the rifles easy ,I have several ,but all my recast come from UK !!No idea if were made in stiff ..
,.Yes they were made very simple as back then typical toys figures as base in 60s makers ideas .AIP follow the simplicity toy figure technique as well yet they made x us adult their line in economical way as generic simple as possible
CONTE and EXF are way above line much more historical dedicated to adult collectors line in more deep taste x accuracy .
Detail wise Marlborough go as you say correct Mark .
They blend with AIP perfect in line and style
“.A call to arms”=ACTA were simple and still more detail but their scale is far smaller 1/35 unfortunately and in some looks as boys next to AIP,EXF and CONTE .I can blend their natives as young teen warriors but no way use in British ACTA w others as too small and their rifles looks like toy next to alike soldiers .Still back to Malbourg they have a very unique charm of their own and fiT perfect in my armies.
      my thoughts

I can use the woman as typical 60s revolutionary guerrilla woman or x Cuba communist revolution 1956-59.The dog has many use ,the other as medical staff and also as MASH TV series representation .
Of course price will be other thing around …
