Toy Hunter Playing with Fire

Jordan Hembrough and Steve Savino are in Denver, Colorado looking for toys for comedian David Hill. David has put down three requirements of the items he wants the toy must be out of the box, playable and quirky.  The first place they go to is Mile High Comic Shop, a famous comic shop, where they are dealing with Chuck. Steve gets there first and starts looking. Jordan gets into the store later and is worry that Steve is buying weird doll items.  Jordan finds a Mego 12″ Steve Trevor Wonder Woman’s Boyfriend  in a damage box.  Jordan pays  Chuck $30.00  and plans to sell to David Hill for $75.00. Checking EBay I could only find a mint box example for Steve Trevor at $499.99. Looking at the 12″ Mego Wonder Woman loose, I found those selling between $39.99 to $49.99 so Steve Trevor could sell loose between $49.99 and $100.00.  Jordan also finds an Intercept game which he pays $20.00 and plans to sell for $30.00 Looking at EBay I found one at $12.99 and another at  $14.99. One international buyer is  sell the Intercept game for $23.99.

Not finding what they want Jordan and Steve go to the Colorado Springs Toy Show where they meet Charles. The first item they buy from Charles  is a Coleco Frogger game for $75.00. Jordan plans to sell it for $150.00.  Looking over EBay the prices range from $38.00 to $300.00. The next item Jordan buys is a Pee Wee Herman Playhouse for $90.00 and will sell for $180.00. A played with version of the Pee Wee Herman Playhouse on EBay was being offered at $99.00. Other versions  of the Playhouse were at $150.00 to $175.00. The last item Jordan buys from Chuck is a Mr. Game Show for $50.00 and will sell for $100.00. There was one version on EBay for $49.99.

The last stop for Jordan and Steve is Brian. Brian has a load of toys in the garage. Jordan and Steve soon discover that Brian had a fire in the garage and many of the toys have smoke damage. Jordan and Steve put on gloves. (Interesting Jordan gloves are similar to the ones that Barry uses on Storage Wars.)  Jordan finds a Masudaya Robby the Robot windup. Jordan pays $20.00 plans to sell for $40.00. Checking EBay  I found a mint example for $99.95. Jordan finds a King Kong model kit for $90.00 and plans to sell for $180.00.  There was no examples on EBay, but looking at the other King Kong model kits, the price looks on target. Steve finds the item that they need for David Hill and his three requirements, out of the box, playable and quirky, a G.I. Joe French Resistance Figure in a G.I. Joe Fantastic Free Fall Box with Sears note that they ran out of the G.I. Joe Fantastic Free Fall and were sending the other figure instead. Steve tells Jordan it is worth $1500.00 and should pay $750.00. Jordan is skeptical on the price and tells Steve if it does not sell he is buying it. Steve responded if it does not sell, he will buy it. Jordan buys the G.I. Joe Figure.  Checking EBay the French Resistance G.I. Joe is being offered out of the box for $265.00. Morphy auctions had a sealed one which they estimated the price between $500.00 to $900.00.  A Free Fall G.I. Joe out of the box on EBay is $149.00. There two mint box examples also on EBay of the Free Fall G.I. Joe at $224.00 and $300.00. The boxes are different that one show on Toy Hunter.

The last section finds  Jordan and Steve at Toy Tokyo, a collectible toy store in New York City to meet David Hill. They show David various toys which he buys including  G.I. Joe French Resistance Figure.

Once again the writing on this episode is bad. The segments seem disjointed and feel like they  were to be used for a different episode. Several times Jordan comes off in a bad light, first when he finds out that Brian’s toys have been in a fire.  Instead of emphasizing with Brian on his loss, Jordan is annoyed and feels it will be a waste of his time.  These reality shows prescreen the prospective party that their host or hosts are going to visited and Jordan should of been aware of Brian’s situation. Jordan could have used this segment to not only emphasize with Brian but point out about the advantage of collectible insurance.

The other spot that Jordan comes off bad is his attitude toward Steve in buying the G.I. Joe figure. Jordan was skeptical on the price due being a mismatch toy, which is a valid point.  He tells Steve you are buying it if it does not sell. This statement put Jordan in a negative light, what would have been better if Jordan had stated to Steve that it was a mismatched toy and having doubts on the price. Steve then could have come back that he would buy if it did not sell. Jordan could then come back with something I appreciated a man that is willing to back his convictions and I will buy it. It would have shown trust in his staff.

Two notes, I will be checking on the price G.I. Joe French Resistance in the wrong box and see if I can get some price quotes. Those of you who watched the show did you catch the Britains Deetail Turks on a card that Jordan had in his hand at Brian’s.  Next episode Jordan goes to Massachusetts looking for toys Chicago Comic Con.
