Takes me back to when I was a boy; he has managed to somehow recreate in real life the scenes that were going through my head when I was playing on the living room or bedroom floor.

Here is a little background on the Gary Tangeman dioramas found here and on You Tube: Each one is set up on an eight by eight foot table in my garage.
Most all of the figures are hand painted. For my Alamo diorama there are 2,000 figures – the actual number involved in the battle. Most of the others average around 500 painted figures. I paint the figures, put together the appropriate scerenry and then photograph everything. The next step is to photo-shop the pictures, put them in an order that tells the story of the battle, find the right music and then put the whole thing on line. Each diorama takes between a year and a year and a half to complete. So far there are 6 dioramas: The Alamo, Pirates, Scenes of the Old West, Medieval Times, Adventures of the Foreign Legion and Custer’s Last Sand. I am curetnly working on Roarke’s Drift with over 500 hand painted Zulus that recreates many of the scenes from the 1964 film. It should be up on You Tube by May of this year.

Gary, we’ve got quite a few creative, talented people in our toy soldier hobby, but your brilliant productions are some of the most interesting things I’ve ever seen.

They are completely entertaining to watch, with the great musical accompanyment. The paint jobs on your figures are excellent, and your diorama scenes are outstanding.

Thanks to you and Admin for sharing them!

It occurs to me that this is the type of thing Rusty Kern might like to add to his Playset Magazine website.

May we inquire as to what section of the country you are from — East Coast, Midwest, South, West Coast, etc.? Are you a regular at any of the toy soldier shows?

Also check You Tube under: history-madesmall and you should be able to find Adventures of the Foreign Legion and a slightly different pirates video
