Most people are surprised that my wife Laurie enjoys the toy soldiers.  She found it a fansinating world. Laurie also enjoys collecting. She remembers playing with the Miller dinosaurs as a child. Over the years with me she reacquired her Miller dinosaurs and added more.  At the Plastic Warrior Show she got three of the Cherilea dinosaurs. Cherilea did six different dinosaurs so we now have three more to look for. Plastic Figure Showcase Part Four Laurie's Treasures, Other Finds

I found for Laurie these two Bullyland cave people. They will go with her other cave people she has on display.  This collection started years ago when we visit a toy soldier show in Karbon Germany with our late friend John Reichl.  There I got for her a resin piece of a mammoth with a cave man in its trunk.

Laurie’s another of her loves is the Beatles. We got this set from Adrian Little. Sadly he couldnot find the drum set. I do not know if this was an authorized Beatle’s piece.

This two headed dragon   was given to Laurie from Peter Bergner.  I have no idea who made it. Plastic Figure Showcase Part Four Laurie's Treasures, Other Finds

The final piece Laurie did not get at PW, but is in her collection.  It is the Timpo Custer figure. I don’t when she got it but it is rare. One was for sale at Plastic Warrior for 65 pounds ($86.00)

Sometimes Hong Kong copies can work in your favor.  When the company that did copies of  Crescent 60mm Mexicans they downsize them to 54mm.  This is a benefit for anyone that is in the 54mm size.  I have place the copy next to a Timpo cavalry figure for comparsion.  The figure is crude but I would find useful.

Laurie has also a lot knowledge in brands at shows she recognize then far and quicky.
Dragon is from fantasy set and has been copied ,i have the playset with then .Yet there rubber type late loose poses dragon copies sold in 980s under Jaru as well others
Cherilea dinosaurs are hard see around .
Beatles are many cake toppers variation/copies made in HK .There other cake toppers sets much more detail and none with the name but as generic rock & roll or GO-GO Swinger band set as label to avoid licenses. There many Wilton andHK made beatles sets around made .
Spaniards brand s such comansi and Emirober did two nice original sets as well in 60 mm scale approx.
Emirober was a less known spaniard maker that made some original small bagged sets and then sold under license of other brands, they also made a nice original poses Rin Tin Tin charters se that is still sold around in Spain along with beales other sets at some store with old stock from late 80s last recast.
Crescent copied made in HK ,also did the mounted poses too mexican and are great 54 mm adition as well, some copies are very crude while others are better.
Interesting in bullyland caveman had escape my collection and i like then .

The Bullyland were a surprise, I think found them in Peter Bergner’s items he had for sale. Laurie likes the so I will be looking for the other three in the collection.

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

The Bully land caveman are actually 7 poses if counting the one early apeman pose with wood stick in hand .They are become very pricy and i had not be able get/see then never cheap .So i guess will be x long before i get one if ever. You are lucky on those and wish best in rest.
        best…

        • ERWIN F SELL says:

Sorry there a set call evolution that has 4 ape more poses plus one Neanderthal and one australopitecus pose but not part of the other 7 series poses. So total are 13 primitive men poses…

It irritates me that two big icons of the 60’s – the Beatles and James Bond were quickly put out in 1/32 or 1/30 Plastic to capitalize on the phenomena and were poorly sculpted and then forgotten. I would love to see these done in nicely sculpted 1/32 or 1/30 scale. The cast of “Goldfinger” would be a great start! Early, Mid, Sgt Pepper and late Beatles also!! Dreamland I guess. Maybe in the future with 3D printing??

  3. ERWIN F SELL says:

Both Beatles and 007 had been copied very well done in plastic and metal in 1/32 and 1/30 or taller by many makers as far i know and saw.The best are of course license with close to actor/musician faces very well made.
Just to mention few in Beatles .
Revell did a 1/25 clone series semi kits very well done too.
Japanese surprise toys had done 4 sets ,included one by Takara-tomy that are identical in 1/35 plastic .
Emirober brand very commun are very close in unpointed format 65 mm scale .
    here is one sample.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

On James Bond there few such Gilbert and Corgi in 3″ and 2″ scales respectively very well done too ,plus few HK 54 mm sets .All very common around .
Also two japanese made sets one with Robert More and other with Sean Connery in plastic 1/35 ,one by Bandai .
Both are very hard to find now ,especially complete lots sets as were made typical; Gashapon series limited for only few years in 70s and early 80s .

    • Tom Black says:

Erwin, I google imaged these. I have never seen them in person. From the images you can not distinguish each Beatle by face only in the pose and instruments played. I would like to see quality faces. My opinion🤨. The 007 poses look stiff.

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

Tom the Emirober brand poses are not 100% portray pictures face but a bit close enough,i have then in my storage .You wont find the actual faces copied in then .
However the japanese set full color painted multi mold plastic snap together gashapon set by TKT made is 100% cloned to detail but in 1/35 (52 mm approx ) as i had seen it in my hand back in 2003 at NYC japanese store ,the others japanese sets only online .Still back then they ask top $$$.And few i had see online go very expensive .
On taller scale figures i know Hamilton Gift LTD and few other brands had done quite nice beatles figures but that is as far i know.
Gilbert set 007 is cast so not much action as character representation portray not actually a part of movie in action i guess.,
If want action pose ,never was done but the Corgi poses are more in action i guess .Even the Japanese set are very static poses but very well done actor faces .
Today if you want made either using 3D for yourself i bet you can as far placing in the shelf and may be the best bet and well done you can do and have.
If try do sale then as marketing online or else you will be sue immediately as both sets are license owned and require a lot money just to pay ahead to use their name and faces .
TKT set was actually commissioned by license owner on Beatles memorabilia rights back then as far i red in book no long ago. Also i doubt any toy soldier of today few maker will go for it as not quite a sale ,specially if much cost license involved unfortunately
        My thoughts.

  4. Clayton says:

    Hello,
I wrote wrong, the correct writing of the figure of the Indian is of a French brand called Quiralu. The figure is made of aluminum.

Could you tell me if this figure is rare?

    Thank you.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

Quiralu figures are not common as most french brand figures were not exported prior 1960s ,especially in metal as far here in US .Now that is for a metal market ,not plastic figures collectors.Value depend in that market and possible ebay international research my help on it .

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

I forgot mentini;Quralu production had been covered in 4 full colour large volume books catalog as well that are often sold in internet …

  5. Clayton says:

    Thank you so much

  6. james nixon says:

I got a Airfix prototype Napoleonic French grenadier officer they never released. I think you get it in certain CTS copies of the French grenadiers. I got the figure from Peter Bergner at this years plastic warrior show he said to my brother and me you know what this is don’t you a lot of people have looked at it and walked by he wanted ten pound for it we got it for eight pound it is very rare.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

I think that posse was actually produced reissued with original mold by CTS(Not copied) in 90s ,i have it in new sets reissued ;pose #16 of French grenadiers. There very abundant here least .
If is the one seen here in samples reissued lots showed in this link !?

      http://www.angelfire.com/biz/toysoldierhq/Airfix.html

Unless there another pose never done in addition to this.

The one that were never produced and not recast-reissued were the Prussian that only few protype poses in metal cast were show in PW magazine long ago.
      Best

    • admin says:

The officer figure you talk about was not in the original reissue. The figure showed up when the mold was reissued by Kent and some other parties. CTS later took over the release of Airfix.

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

        That what I thought. ..
Is been while the figure been around in the 16 full set poses reissues set in all new colors .
Least here in US I seen offered by many dealers , at show else in bags or loose…
        Best

        • Every bagged set we sold of the Airfix reissue French Grenadiers contained this “new” officer pose. So it is certainly not rare as we sold several thousand sets.

          • ERWIN F SELL says:

I just went back check mine and i have 8 of then and pretty sure seen many around.
I’m wonder how dealers in UK had not carry then in quantity been a former British brand.
I feel sorry x others paying so much x a mass produced figure.
            My thought. ..

            Best.

      • TDBarnecut says:

The story I read about the extra Airfix French officer was that the pose was too similar to the one made by Britain’s deetail – by the same sculptor! So they held it back to avoid copyright problems. Later, it was included in re-issue sets (but not by Airfix).

        • ERWIN F SELL says:

Well i guess Airfix and Britain detail had some similarities in many poses so the story make sense ..
Funny today there not problem and even DSD from argentina copy and kept many Britain molds with out any problems or sues.

          best

  7. Mark McNamara says:

Looks like Laurie can pick with the best of them !

  8. james nixon says:

Yes that is the figure I have bought a set of CTS French grenadiers off EBAY. But this figure was not in with them it is rare over here in UK first time we have seen one.
