Good choice by MARS — everyone likes pirates!

Plus, they look like very good poses. I agree with Admin: these seem to possibly be the best sculpts MARS has done to date.

And I think it’s a pretty good color selection.

And MARS figures are reasonably priced. I intend to get them — likely either from TSSD or CTS, both of whom always seem to carry the MARS releases.

  2. Tom Black says:

I agree these are their best sculpts yet. Hopefully they come out the same as these masters. Definitely have to add this to my list.

  3. ed borris says:

They look pretty good to me, the guy on the far right right looksa bit ackward, but not too bad.

  4. Edward L Bearnson says:

These look great. I hope they will be in 54mm. Keep us posted Stad and thanks,

I have to agree with the other comments – including the hopes that the finished product looks as good as the masters. I’m always on the hunt for crew for my two schooners; I hope one day someone will come out with some good sculpts of crewman doing seaman things and some good cannon crews in plastic – I have about everyone I’ve been able to find.

  6. Darren Hatley says:

Nice figures great sculpting and good poses.

  7. Alex Baldwin says:

Lets hope they end up being better than the 1944-45 German Elites. Those were absolute garbage. Calling them 1/32 scale was also insulting.

  8. These figures look very nice. This has to be their best work like others have said. I probably get a set or two. Thanks for sharing Paul.

  9. Wayne W says:

Mars has had a spotty track record; some great ideas and even sculpts and poses somehow manage to get screwed up with poor mold tooling or scaling – but every so often they pull it off. I keep hoping they, like Strelets-r in 1/72 can turn a corner and really shine. I think we will all benefit.

  10. John Wallace says:

These look great. haven’t got the German Elites: are they too small for 1/32nd? Hard to tell from photos

    • Alex Baldwin says:

      John,
I bought two sets from Scott’s Model Shop (Rebel Alpha on e-bay) and I was extremely disappointed with them from a number of perspectives. The detail, even for Mars standards, is poor. Some of the helmets don’t even really resemble the Stalhelm at all. The color (I don’t paint my figures) of the plastic is also poor in my opinion (it is a very, very light grey) as I prefer my elite German infantry to be darker in color if possible. They are also very small. They line up pretty well with Original Airfix Italians which means they must be roughly 1/35 or ever so slightly larger. I don’t mind 1/35 figures as I have many of the Esci WWII sets and they are 1/35. That said, when you market something as 1/32 and it really isn’t close, that is a problem. All in all, they just don’t even have the feel of elite troops. I am going to use them as SS Hitler Jugend (Hitler Youth) but the figures are definitely second rate and I wish I had passed on them.

    Holy cow!!
Definitely they use another sculptor, mold else .The other sets are far cry versus these .Well done!!
I had made strong critical in past about ALL sets done and few had become very offended by it but to be honest Mars figures are POOR sculpted in most other sets, faces ugly ,weapons barrely detailed and the German WW2 as mentioned before by me and any here as well in this post too are horrible done in uniforms else .
I understand the fact are cheap and nice toy action figures x children maybe but not to my standar flavor as collector today and i bet many others as well.Yet to everyone his own-like and good for them please…they are very cheap and i bet sale fast but x many had been disappointed and hpe these are not just prototypes but good products when finish.
The choice of so popular repeated/THEMATIC set is a plus x Pirates fans =plenty and even generic sailors else use.
Will be first Mars set i will buy from now…
The poses and detail remain mea close match with IDeal/Marx 54mm pirates or better and also same film Treasure Island charter clothing depiction in many .others are typical Pirates of Caribbeans idea depiction like the woman .
Hope they blend with Ideal,Marx and Barzso ,Toy smith and all new Chinese made resent sets 54 mm to match all together .
Warhansa pirates are only match with 60 Marx,MPC,Reamsa ,Charbens,Publius and others in that range .
    my thoughts..
    Best

Will be buying two sets of the Mars pirates they look great. The Germans were great as back up troops seemed the same size as Marx & Airfix to me.

  13. John Doyle says:

Thanks Alex, I suspected as much, hopefully they will redeem themselves with the pirates and future projects, regards, John

  14. Mark T. says:

These are the best plastic pirates I have ever seen by far. I haven’t been a big fan of Mars before, but these are going to be a must-own! I hope they make some Spaniards to fight them. This set looks just as good as anything by Pvblivs, Basevich or Chintoys to me.

  15. Mark McNamara says:

    WOW! Really nice looking !

  16. Jon Burk says:

I see that they are available now from Classic Toy Soldiers in black. Has anyone seen them in other colors? The gray color above would show the details better.

    • Jon Burk says:

ToysoldierHq also has them for listed at the price of $22.50 per set in Brown. CTS and Toy Soldier Company have them listed a $29.95 per set. Or maybe they are dark green from CTS? I don’t see the color on CTS’ description.
