He has done several hundred and has sent us photos. Darren used to collect figures of all eras but now only collects ancient, medieval and fantasy figures. This is where his interest lies. So the figures he converts are based on his interest.  The photo above is of two Helm Toy Ogres, he made the body

 How He Does His Figures

Darren uses Humbrol Paints on all of his  figures. He uses American made Quick Grip Glue for middle to hard Plastics and for molding muscles, fur, clothing etc.,  Darren also use Super Glue as it will stick anything usually if Quick Grip doesn’t work. He make all my stands out of plastic DVD boxes.

The Cyclops is a Heroclix  figure Darren cut his small legs off, and put him on taller Technolog legs. He then moved the arms for more of a dynamic pose. He put him on stand and painted him.

Nice simple idea to do flat generic base x any figure, reducing size or scale if need from now elevated style=every does bases hill used in new productions.

Hi and thanks for the comments so far, Just a few comments i want to add is that as far as the Stands go I just cut around the DVD box plastic with Scissors and then round off with Sandpaper, And it works Great. Apart from having and Converting and Painting almost All of the Brilliant Tehnolog figures, I also use many Tehnolog Legs and some Arms in many of my Conversions as i find them Exciting and Perfect for what i want to do, I also find Simba Knights in there various Forms and sizes to be Good for Conversions.

Very impressive – I’m amazed at how skillfully you have mixed and matched different lines of figures – very creative with those Muscle guys!

  7. Darren Hatley says:

Hi Daniel Thanks alot, I first saw the 80s made MUSCLE figures about 5 years ago and thought they had A lot of potential, And when i actually had them in my hands i realized that the Body,Head and Arms were perfect 1/32 scale, But the legs are small and silly, So i cut all the legs off and look for Good legs to put them on which is mostly those Russian Tehnolog figures that i really like and i also make the Arms into more Dynamic poses as they can be boring. I also give them Weapons and Shields. Each figure stands at between 50mm and 60mm which is my favoured scale. Ive done about 60 of these figures so far and have got at least 10 more to do. Each figure takes me about 2 weeks or more to do.

Darren, Nice work on these! I also like the Frankenstein best. The skeletons are much more active with your conversions! Tehnolog figures are nice but too static until your changes. thanks for refering me to this article. Lizard man and Cyclops are pretty cool figures, as well!

Thanks Jon Its really nice when people appreciate my work. I do it mainly as a labour of love, I do enjoy doing them most of the time and it gives me something to do in my spare time, But it would be nice if some of these companys would put out very dynamic figures that I didn’t need to convert as I’m not keen on boring poses as ive mentioned before. However on the other hand I do like putting bits and peices together to make New and Unique figures both Human and Monster. I will be looking to put some more figures ive done on here in about a month or 2 So keep a lookout for them Jon.
