September 2026 Ludwig Von Drake
I saw a friend who had some items for me. I decided to look over his stand to see if there was anything else I could use. As I was looking over his various items, I spotted a Marx Ludwig Von Drake. Seeing the figure brought back memories of seeing it in the basement toy department at W T Grants in Hazleton, PA. I was visiting my aunt and uncle and was roaming the city while they were working. I did not buy it then, as I did not have a lot of money. I did get one years later in an RCA box, but I had to sell it to pay some bills. Since that sale, I had not seen one until my friend’s stand. It is now in the collection.
Other Figures
Two other figures I have picked up recently were the Chaplain of the Irish Brigade and a Johillco knight. The chaplain was made for Americana, which acquired access to the BMC Civil War molds. The owner of the molds died, and his heirs blocked Bill McMasters from accessing the molds. They did several other sets, including the Irish Brigade.
The knight was made by Johillco. It was later done by Cherilea. Peter Evans says that my knight is the Johillco version.
My friend Detlef Heerbrand went to an Italian Toy show. Among the photos he took, I spotted this carded Spacemmen set. It has copies of the Marx astronauts. I believe it was made by Bavarelli.
JJ Schebetta sent me a photo of two figures he recently got. They are from Perry Rhodan. Perry Rhodan is a popular science fiction opera series from Germany. The series has been going on since 1961. It has spawned various toys etc.
Here is what JJ said about the figures. I was able to acquire a couple of Perry Rhodan figures from my friend in Germany. Which is very kind of him, what with all the import fees and tariffs business going on.
The figures are about 1/24 scale and come in white hard plastic, just like our old model kits. He asked me to send him some photos of the figures after I had painted them.
