Our final Greek Militia figure is a man with a knife overhead in his left hand. In his right hand is a pistol. Like a the first Greek Militia he has knife in his belt.

Plastic Platoon Greek Infantry Thoughts

Once again Plastic Platoon has come through with more great figures. The Battle of Crete was not only a battle between the British and the Germans, but it was also with the Greek infantry and civilians. The Greek infantry was undermanned and poorly training. The civilians of Crete formed a resistance to the German invasion force. This let to any reprisals from the Germans.

The quality of the Plastic Platoon figures once again is amazing. Just like the previous Battle of Crete figures, they are very detailed. Like other Plastic Platoon figures they weapons and accessories. some people like this others do not. Once they come out they will be welcome additions.

Wow .. fantastic figures that are unfortunately too high priced .. If one calculates then the postage costs me a figure almost 10 Euro!

These are fantastic as expected. I only wish Plastic Platoon would make a second set of Greeks as they did with the German Paratroopers just so both the militia and Greek army would each have a few more poses. I was originally under the assumption that the Greek army and Crete militia sets would be separate sets rather than one combined set. I suspect they did not expect enough interest in these which is why they have one combined set. They fill in a gap that is much needed. I will definitely be getting at least two sets. As a side note, I thought the Plastic Platoon Vietcong and NVA sets both had a woman in them ( I believe it is the sniper pose for the VC and a pose with Ppsh and pistol for the NVA). I’ll have to check my brother’s collection to confirm.

I took a look and did not notice any of off hand. Hopefully, you can confirm your thoughts.

Paul, I just took a look at the actual figures and there are indeed two Vietnamese women. The VC set has a sniper with scoped Mosin Nagant and long braided hair. Charlie and I believe the figure is meant to be a woman. The NVA set likewise has what appears to be a woman holding what appears to be a flare gun in her raised right hand and a Ppsh-41 close to her body in her left hand. If I knew how to attach a photo of the two in question, I would.

-sigh- Beautiful figures again. Female figures are always welcome (hint to other more moderately priced makers); there is a shortage of them. I speak as one who had to go metal to get a decent figure for Susannah Dickenson.

  4. Tom Black says:

The woman looks like she could be useful for French Resistance or any other partisan. Too bad since PP is on the subject of Greece WW2 they couldn’t do “Guns of Navarone” figures!

    • admin says:

They would have to do licensing which is very expensive or make the figures seem to be Gun of Navarrone

One of their American sets, they did guys close to Bunny, Junior and Sgt Barnes. Junior was wearing the skull cap and had his boot off, I cna see them going for the centipead now. Buuny had a shotgun and the scalp on the back of his helmet, Barnes had the facial scar, you have to look real close. Without doing a hormone test, I would say the Cong sniper is a chick, of course these days I can get in trouble for assuming gender.

    • Alex Baldwin says:

      Tom,
I think the Greek militia figure with the Chauchat light machine gun would be excellent for WWI or WWII as a French colonial soldier or even an irregular in North Africa. The weapon he is carrying is definitely French issue. I really wish Mikhail would do another Greek set to add more depth to the poses of both. If he did, I would do four more poses for the Greek army and two more poses for the militia. A good standing shooting pose would go a long way for either group. I feel the Greek infantry overall are more useful but, as Tom noted, some of the militia figures could be used for multiple things which makes them all the more awesome.

  5. Evan Oelrichs says:

I asked Mikhail If there would be another set in the battle of Crete and he said yes, so I’m guessing there will be a second set of these guys but that’s just speculation

    • Alex Baldwin says:

Evan, I’d love to see him do another set of Greeks. In my mind, a set of German Mountain troops would be a nice addition too. I believe the Germans flew in Mountain troops to support the German paratroopers once the airfield was captured. The Airfix German mountain troops are great but Plastic Platoon could add a lot.

  6. Brian Johnson says:

What is the weapon the female has?

    • Alex Baldwin says:

Brian, I believe it is a Beretta M1918. As far as I know the Italians originally designed the weapon to be a semi-automatic rifle but was converted to be the Italian army’s first submachine gun. It has an overhead gravity fed magazine.

  7. Mark McNamara says:

So many wonderful figures out there !

  8. Theo says:

The so called Militia figures are actually Cretan civilians who fought the Germans during the invasion of Crete and right up to the end of World War 2.The dress depicted is the traditional dress of Crete, and also was the uniform of the Cretan Gendarmes from 1900 onward.

  9. ERWIN F SELL says:

PP owner had announced that a second Greek army set will be done soon after.

    • Alex Baldwin says:

Erwin, That is great news. I really felt they needed another set to fill in the poses for each of the two groups represented (Greek army, and Crete militia). Now if I can just afford to get them all.

  10. ERWIN F SELL says:

Plastic Platoon had announce a new set of US 7th cavalry 6 poses set .As usual in awesome super detail poses sculpture pieces .I think even with so much high cost of these brand sets it will be a hot sale to many US collectors .
    best
