Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued

Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never ReissuedDulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued Erwin Sell has looked into the company Dulcop. He found that Dulcop did not reissue all of its figures. When the figures came out they were painted. The latter release were unpainted. We will let Erwin tell you what he found.

Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued Introduction

According to various Italian books and blogs several Dulcop figures and sets were apparently not reissued. Dulcop first did their figures painted.

When the figures were reissued in 1980’s, the figures were sold unpainted.  There were a number of figures not reissued.
A sample of Dulcop box shows on the back series of (Mexican mounted and foot bandidos, firemen, spacemen). These figures have been seen. Several Italian collectors have them in their collection.

It should be noted how the back of box indicates several  different sets.  It does not show Robin Hood,Saracens, zoo or farm  that were made by them.

The caisson when originally offered had unique figures that were  included. When the caisson was reissued unpainted no figures.  In the photo above we have a close up of the figures for the Napoleonic version As you can see it had a driver and passenger.

The U.S. Cavalry caisson had  two unique figures not reissued.  Once again we have a driver and passenger or guard.

Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued
The original horses from Dulcop were complete different poses. They were designed with nice field base and bottom wheels. There were two different horses poses were made. The knight horses were same with armor or ornate blanket molded plastic add on.
Saracens were originally six poses only 5 were issued.  The sixth pose is with an standing archer, Why it was not reissued I do not know. It is shown in books and I have seen for sale as well.

Spacemen are six different poses. I have only five of the six poses only. I have never see reissued.
Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued
The zoo set had original six poses included civilians and zookeepers. So far I have only seen a zoo keeper and animals reissued.
Dulcop farm set with 6 farmers was done.  I am not sure that they were issued, but I have womanwith a rake unpainted.
Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued
One odd rare pose female depicted as (‘follower” ) in book. It has been list as a barmaid from other sources.

Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued Western Items

While the houses were sold after 80s with playmobil  style figures. Fort is much harder to find.
Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never ReissuedFinally we have the western stage coach. while it was reissued the prone Cowboy firing the rifle was not.

Dulcop Plastic Toy Soldiers Never Reissued Admin’s Thoughts

Besides the unpainted figures, some overstock of painted figures showed up. Two notable were the bartender and woman walking.  We will update this article as we get more information.

The horses that Dulcop reissued look alright when you put them in a mass formation, but I think I actually prefer the horse pose that Dulcop didn’t reissue.

  2. Mark T. says:

    Hi Stad,
This is a very interesting article. I missed my chance to get some Dulcop figures back in the early 90s.
Can you fix the photo of the full back of the Dulcop box so it can be enlarged? It’s the only one on this thread that you can’t click on. I’d like to see their entire range.

    • admin says:

I have replaced the photo. I will do other photos later tonight.

      • Mark T. says:

        Thanks!

If anyone reading this owns the Dulcop Mexican Bandidos, I would love to see a picture of them!

        • Don Perkins says:

Dulcop reissued poses included two pretty good Zorros (one on foot and one mounted, both with nice, flowing removable capes), along with a nice set of both foot and mounted Mexican Lancers.

But, like Mark T., I would very much like to see those unreissued Mexican Banditos. From the drawings, they look pretty good.

          • Erwin says:

Increased picture of box and other were sent.
            Admin will post later.
The mexican bandidos are 6 foot and 6 mounted poses.
            Very hard to find.
I had only see in a book .one sale and a blog so far.
            And no all poses.
            Fire fighter foot poses same.
The fire fighter companion rider is more common.
Mounted drivers x napoleonic and civil war caisson are more around ..
Original two different poses horses were mounted in a base w wheels to be rolled.
I have several.you can remove then if like easy.
The knight verssion horses were same just w add on medieval blanket harness molded separate.
There is a Dave Croket pose made too i have I do not know if were reissued. (Not the pioneer w knife from cowboy set)
Dulcop sold several milirary sets in 50 mm scale. Some poses are extracted of Marx .
            Others are new or mix.
They did cowboys and Indians same scale that differ of more common and are a mix of marx and Cofalu poses .According to one book, these are attributed as been original by other firm then took over by Dulcop .
Dulcop did a swopped line too using same poses of their figures just splitting in parts molds.
No all were made .just few poses sets as far I know.

The Davy Crockett pose was reissued unpainted.

  3. Don Perkins says:

Yes, I’ve got the reissued Dulcop Davy Crockett pose, standing with Old Betsy crooked in the cradle of his arm. You frequently see them at shows, usually for about $1.00 each.

I got mine many years ago from John Stengel Sr., I think. But it may actually have been from Paul Stadinger’s list. All these memories begin to dim.

  4. erwin says:

Thank you x update in DK ,the other made with cowboy pose w knife looks like was intended to be as well but mix with cowboys .
May be that is the reason the prone cowboy pose in stagecoach was not reissued.
In the Zoo human poses there is a woman w purse, another children w dog , zoo keeper w broom plus a girl with a toy in hand, all I know were reissued or old stock sold, but there is another “zoo keeper” with a other thing in hand I never see around too.
The zoo sets as well Tarzan were sold with solid vase or detached green bases as tarzan/safari figures.

  5. Bill Nevins says:

Erwin, Thanks for this. I like that Nap caisson and cannon set..
The base looks like a rip off of the Britains Caisson and Cannon base. Not the same, but the idea of the horses being plugged into the base with small wheels underneath.

Was this the only piece that the base was used with?
I believe the Britains stagecoach used the same base as the Caisson set, so did Dulcop do the same thing?

Were those horses ever reissued? I think they are excellent.

    • Erwin says:

The early base format was use in first years.By mid 70s they replaced w new horses .
The old horses were never used again.
The early are from late 60s approx to mid 70s …
Were used in all caisson , carriages made by Dulco early.
      The horse had 2 poses.
The systems made had been base more in Nardi by age and style than Britain.
Dulcop used several artist as well third party maker such Giopi among others.
      Best…

    I need add following.
My work has been done more in to add info to myself and expose top others than else.
Dulcop is the only Italian toy soldier brand of main makers not fully explored by Italians ,it had partially been covered in books mix with others.
While ATLANTIC has three full books.
Nardi two and CO-MA,CANE,Fontanini,Depose and Xiloplasto cover almost complete in others included artis names and years working with then.
Dulcop made several sets not well cover like the Mexican bandidos, spaceman, firefighters .
One of first sets was Napoleonic by fact according to data.
The 60 mm Gi’s and German were sold by Dulcop in 1977 first but apparently are from other artist and made for Dulcop to be sold.
For some odd reason the 2 German poses direct copies of Airfix have children caliber rifles while the other poses are extremely well done in weapons never done in plastic soldiers before such MP44 and the mp40 much better done that crap made by Airfix or Britain. Helmets were much better. The 5cm mortar pose is very rare and unique too.
The one pose with Para Helmet is acceptable as some LW personal or gendarmerie used it too.
In the stagecoach the prone cowboy was to be use in top firing back and made excluvelly x it,today that pose is hard to get around because of that while the driver is easy to find as was reissued with stagecoach well till late 80s.
Today a full carriage with old horses painted in box could be easy sold x hundred of dollars
Funny part I had been approach by several Italian collectors looking x more info as the reissues were actually massive exported out and not sold in Italy and they want to know more about what was not reissue and what was.
Because company is very active still it has become very hard to dig out more information about production.
Two Italian book writers had approach owners(now the grandsons) and not good responses.
Any one with more information I will appreciate pass it if possible so I can pass along Italians please.
    Thank you.
    best regards..

  7. Bobby G. Moore says:

Thanks for sharing the info and pictures. That Dulcop Army truck looks cool. I got my Dulcop G.I.’s and Germans from the Toy Soldier Company about 1990. I thought, and still do, that they were good figures with some cool poses. To me, they seem closer in detail to Matchbox so I mix them togather to form a platoon for the G.I.’s and one for the Germans. Its to bad they didn’t keep making figures, maybe we would have got some Japanese and Marines and some WW2 British and who knows what else.
    BOBBYGMOORE

  8. I think the female figure depicted as “follower” or barmaid is a farm girl scattering corn from her pinafore to feed the chickens. I have a farm hand in same sculpting and brown plastic wielding a scythe and rake, he looks like the Catcher in the Rye!

    • Erwin says:

      Brian.
Thank you.At first glance I thouht same too.
The problem is the farm set is made of 6 poses w more modern clothing.
This woman appear to looks in older clothing style and not match with other farmers 6 poses , included the girl w rack next to her.
There is another maid w cape hood made by Dulcop as well in same style old fashion clotbing.I will dig her out x picture.
Ironicle both pretty much match robin hood lady Marian mounted pose in style.
So so far by italian blogs she is not part of farmer set.
The woman was included w western building as well the bartender too in the early 80s.
The bartender is very common still …
So I’m not sure what she is from…

      My thoughts…
      Best….

      • Jon Burk says:

Just wondered if the follower/barmaid was a “camp follower” as a woman who followed after the armies circa Revolutionary War to Civil War era. It is hard for me to tell from the photos, but it looks like she has some kind of torn or fingerless gloves. She does remind me of camp follower pictures I have seen in Osprey and women at reenactments.

        • ERWIN SELL says:

She was used in the Napoleonic set as well for western set as maid in building western saloon with bartender by Dulcop. The pose is a mystery as definitely not typical dressed not a farmers as Dulcop famers set is of more modern dress figures. There is a mounted pose in same clothing (not to be confused with Robin Hood set marian please). The big problem with Dulcop is till now italians books don to cover all set fully as they did with other brands such ATLANTIC,CANE,NARDI,ISAS,TORGANO ,PRB ,POLYTOYS ,CO-MA
          best…

  9. Bill Nevins says:

Erwin I just sent Paul a pic showing my re issue Stagecoach WITH the lying down shooting figure included. I got this (and others) from Stengel long ago.

    Or is this an original?

    • Erwin says:

      Bill.
As soo I see will give my thought.
If you have case or box could be great too.
If figure is indeed not painted and looks new could had well an old carry over stock sold in last batch when Dulcop sold out all toy soldier line.
The problem is to know if were reissues most had been done in late 80s and ordered w all carriages.
I had seen many stagecoatch reissued mint and none w the prone pose.
But again is a though and definettely you may have one of the few old last stock sold by then.
      As state above ….
      Best…

  10. erwin says:

    Bill
I had saw the picture. Thank you.
Definitely not reissued if painted by factory (the figures)The yellow driver was pain as that from 1977 till 1895 ass far case and catalog show.
Dulcop have a painting pattern for some poses.
All factory left figures painted were already in stock and  sold with last batch along with reissues .They are from early 80s.Some were imported with reissued in late 80s
That is why rest of stagecotach are with out the prone pose in most around ,also if has one pair horse means a Reissued stagecoach and figures from old stock add probably as last carry over batch to fill .
PRE 70S Dulcop paint was flat/mate ,later gloss.

Fire pump carriage .The two companion fire fighter are old stock too.
Some come here as I got one  Full here in original case mark 1986.
The rest of fire carriage were imported with out
The foot poses were never imported here.
So as the figures. Are old stock carry over.
    Carriages are reissued .
    Hope this answer your question.
My thoughts. And very good sets indeed

Somewhere I have “Swoppett” style Zorro, Sgt Carcia and a Soldier made by Dulcop and sold in Kinder Eggs in the 1970s.
I will try and find them
