This photo shows one of the Cracker Barrel pirates in 52mm  in measurement.  The figures should be able  to mix in with your 54mm figures.

The Dollar General  pirates  have only one pose that is 50mm. The rest are 42/46mm scale smaller than most of the new set poses that are being sold in stores.

Thanks for Posting the comparison photos Erwin, nice job, it’s amazing the similiarities and differences, did someone get some ideas to sculpt from the other set ?

Mark. Sorry .No clue on who did first(the toy copies and redesigned poses/mold) is a puzzle always; every body had done that from early times. Chinese use limited mold system and then are gone, so student in arts usually take prototypes to play and learn creating new poses at tec/school arts. This is how they made most cheap figures. Manufactures use their work to do simple limited run production till mold is wasted.
But the fact that this last set is a bit larger in scale(50-52 mm) least give me better reception in my personal like, they definitely blend well with Hing Fat set done in 90’s and now recast in less poses and short size , the set from Toys r US- 6 poses sold with skeleton in bucket that was sold also painted before in bags , others I had found before from non know source plus new coming Blue box pirates sets. All in my opinion made excellent ship sailor on top of pirated addition.

Yes too bad missing the captain pose , the set has original 10 poses. The now undercsale cloned and sold by/under BMC,V Bill and others distributors are only 6/7 poses from original set.
I think china did a good sale when create these original poses sets.
Fortunately when they first come out I got few sets and kept two, rest resold after many years, now are hard get in all poses. They do blend well w Ideal and 54 mm.
    Marx as well.

Erwin, if you remember you sold me a set of these figures about a year ago. I also bought some other Toysmith Pirates Dollar Store type from ebay still in the plastic bags about 6 months ago. I thought I was getting additional figures of the same approximate 52mm size. These figures are 64mm-70mm in height, and in the same red and black colors as the smaller figures. They were sold for $1 for 12 pieces. There are 9 figures, a barrel, a chest and a combined piece with two boxes together like stair steps.

I have not seen these before or since. The lady who offered them said they were bought at a thrift store. I don’t know if she meant a Goodwill type store or a $1 or 99c store. I haven’t seen these larger sized pieces pictured or mentioned elsewhere. Are they familiar to you? I haven’t taken them out of the header bags. They look like they would fit in with Marx, MPC and Ampex 60mm figures. There is a figure with a megaphone, a captain, one kneeling with musket, a figure with an oversized flint pistol, another with a boarding ax and one or two figures with no weapons with open hands. It looks like they were originally made to hold separate knives, cutlasses, or other weapons. There are no separate weapons included.

If you are familiar with these figures, can you offer any more information. Also 2015 copyright under Toysmith. If I asked you about these before, sorry I don’t remember.

Wow, Erwin a treasure trove of pirates! Thank you! Tehnolog look like same links I had on ebay. Many others I have not seen before. The resin pirates are especially nice. There may be some buying later tomorrow.

  6. Jon Burk says:

Erwin, I did several purchases from the ebay items you listed. The soft Tehnolog pirates are ver good looking. I also got one of the hard plastic sets. These are the two Tehnolog pirate sets which look more realistic. I am guessing those were 2nd and 3rd realeases. The original Tehnolog pirate group of figures were the multi-colored set with most toy-like look. They appear to be hard plastic and not very realistic. I did not like their look. Nice searching; I got several other items you listed as well.

I had a question about The Pirates of the Caribbean chess set pieces. Can you tell me what scale those are? Some look like they could be used as toy soldiers type pieces if they are around 54mm size and I could watch for partial sets.

    Thanks again.
