Expeditionary Force Early Germans Introduction

Expeditionary Force Early Germans figures
Dear All,
Greetings from Singapore!
Very pleased to inform you of the release of a new set in the “60mm Wars of the Roman Empire – Early Germans” range.
60 GMS 01         Early Germans (Foot Warriors)
All models are supplied unpainted. The sets will be available for shipment next week (20 April 2020).

The set contains 9 model soldiers comprising of 1 armored chieftain and 8 unarmoured tribal warriors. Extra arms options are provided to give permutation of at least 20 different assembled postures.

The Germanic tribes fought against both the Romans and the Celts. Many of them also served with the Roman army as Barbarian Symmachiarii units; (symmachiarii = sympathizers, or allies). These are auxiliary units but are not equipped or trained in Roman methods.

The famous exploits of the Germans include the wanderings of the Cimbri, the defeat of the Romans at Teutoburger Wald by Arminius of the Cherusci; and the Civilis Rebellion of the Batavi.
These are all newly sculpted figures.

German figures

The above shows the typical battle dress of such warriors. Germanic warriors have a preference of going into battle bare-chested. Without access to armor, The wearing of clothes offers no protection and may cause infection if fabric fragments are pushed into a wound.
Shield Wall
The main protective armament of the Germans is the shield of wood or braided material, sometimes covered with leather. The most characteristic shape of the shield is the hexagon, although oval and square shields are not uncommon. Only a very few have a helmet or armor.
The main weapon of the Germans is the javelin known as the framea. It is used both for stabbing and for throwing.

More Information

German ax

Their sidearm is the ax or the club. The sword is only owned by those who can afford them as metal is scarce among many of the German tribes. Note that one of the heads above has the unique Suebian-knot hairstyle.
Single German with spear and shield

The Germans often place rank of long spearmen in their front ranks. German trousers are more tight-fitting than that of the Celts and they may strap their lower legs to facilitate movement in thick forests. (see earlier photos above).
With club and shield
There is a class of warrior among the Chatti tribes who keeps their hair and beard uncut and maintain an appearance of simplicity as a mark of their warrior pledge. These men often commence battle charging at the front. The model on the left above is designed with such a warrior in mind.

Next Release

French Dragoons
The next set in the production queue is the French Dismounted Dragoons (54 FRN 10) to be released in May 2020.
French dragoons are often used in a rapid deployment mission to defend a bridge or supply base or similar. In such dismounted actions, they would use firearms and keep their swords and mounts at the rear.

Looking forward to your kind support.
Stay safe.
Cheers,
Scott

I thanks EXF the new release yet i have my concerns
Well Germanic warriors go battle half naked as did celts and many britons too as far weather let then.m do it
But when cold they not. They had not superheated powers at all.
Wall roman era engraving show then well dressed and with leathers too in most cases in fact contrary to half naked image described by one or two roman writers that unfortunately had been spread all over and give wrong misconceptions.
Are they going do then as that too?I mean with full clothing???
Aka /Gladiator film as Conte,DSD and TSSD did.
Or what about the wrong depiction of every warrior went to a gym filled w steroid before war will continue in the main these makers??
Come on!! what is up with these bodies.
I appreciate the new sets add on but since Italeri the level of warrior super body had increased too much.
Now we got Indians super athletic too from other maker after some criticize a poor chinese maker production doing same before and now main brands from europe else doing same mistake.
Those movie 300 had confused artist?
    My thought

  2. Alan James Black says:

Nice point Erwin. The Varus disaster, I believe, took place in late September.
The Roman army should have been in winter camp or, at the least, were preparing to settle in, no campaigning, till next year.
The Germanic tribes probably would have been clothed, apart from a few berserkers, in warmer clothes.
We are told by historians that the weather as the Roman column pushed through the forests was absymal.
Not exactly the weather to parade around half naked.
As to physical, body, appearance…to be honest I’m not really disturbed by ExForces portrayal.
But then again I don’t collect many barbarians preferring Romans.
    C’mon Richard (Conte) where’s my new Romans…!! Please…
    Stay safe all.
    Cheers
    Alan

They look great will get four sets of them and the Dismounted French Dragoons with all the terrible time going on at the moment this is some good news cheer us up.

  4. Tom Black says:

As far as the body type goes I don’t think every warrior had a stomach 6 pack but the body build looks okay. This was a different time of course and only the fit survived, the daily tasks of the common warrior like Farming and Hunting kept them in good shape. They also didn’t eat processed food obviously.
As for the Native Americans I know the first English settlers of Jamestown and Plymouth marveled at the fitness and stature of the Warriors body. The photos Erwin talks about I don’t recall seeing any Warriors in their prime that were not on a reservation.

  5. Steve Zobel says:

It would be fun to see a few of the early Gauls, perhaps older guys, with a bit of a beer belly, just to add some difference to a group.
Those French dismounted dragoons look nice.
