Andreas’ Recent Figure Finds Cheapo Stores

Andreas’ Recent Figure Finds, our very good friend Andreas Dittmann has found some items in what he calls “cheapo stores'”. I liked his term for dollar stores, pound stores, etc. It is where we are finding items at reasonable prices. I have some updates for you.

Andreas’ Recent Figure Finds Store Finds

Andreas' Recent Figure Finds animal
The first items we have Andreas are four different sets of animals. Each set contains male and female animals with a young one. Here we have a set of leopards.
Pandas
The next we have is a set of pandas. The figures are marked FG Trading made in China.
Deer
Andreas feels these sets were done to offer something cheaper than Schleich. Each set sells for 4 Euros ($4.44).
Rhinos
The fourth set Andreas got was a Rhino family. He said there are also sets for gorillas and orangutans. he feels there is a lion set.
Roman Set
The other item that Andreas found was this Roman set. The set is from a company called Tedi. It consists of four 70CM figures two knights and two Romans plus a colosseum section. The mount Romans have maces and a halberd. The knights are out of place especially the crossbowman. The set sells for 10 Euros ($11.10)

Updates

Revell British paratrooper
Kent has sent us from his site Toy Soldiers Headquarters a photo of the Revell British Paratroopers. The set has ten different poses
soldiers one
In my post of The Last Flea Market of 2019, I showed these figures. Erwin noted that they are copies of figures that were made by a company called Ackerman. The set has twelve different poses. Some are copies of the Matchbox poses. Here in the first photo, we have the following poses:
1. Advancing with an automatic weapon
2. Standing with pistol and M16
3. Grenade thrower
4. With pistol? and walkie talkie
Soldiers two
Our next set of soldiers
5. Kneeling firing bazooka
6. Standing firing rifle
7. Officer looking through binoculars waving
8. Advancing with a Sten gun grenade in the right hand
Soldiers 3
9. Kneeling behind a heavy machine gun
10. Running with an automatic gun
11. Running right leg up an automatic rifle waving
12. Advancing with bayonet rifle
The copied poses are two, six, seven, nine, and twelve. Pose eight is a copy of the Airfix second series paratrooper.

A Buffalo set would be the Cat’s A**

I had seen the animals and there more plus dinosaur sets as well from same maker.
The roman knights sets is very well done .Typical Chinese well done figures when they want do it right the produce very well done figures with nice detail and great poses. The weapon mix up is generally a common issue in reset assembling line as they just don’t pay attention ,but not a big issue .I saw then in alibaba no long ago, there another set with other poses as well.
I like get one set of those if find where from here as alibaba were x sale in huge lot offer only .
I think Tedi is just importing then ,not making it .

Revell did some nice figures. I snatched up about everything they did in 1/72 scale and would have loved to have gotten their 1/35 scale figures but they were just too small – even for the “old” 1/32 scale. I remember one time I somehow got some Revell ACW figures instead of Accurate. Same poses, but the size difference was really noticeable. I never figured that one out – after all, they were making the exact same figures. It was the same with their 100 Years War figures, beautifully sculpted, just small. I never noticed it with their ARW figures but maybe by then I was on to the difference and just bought Accurate. I was thinking about it, we’re talking almost thirty years ago now.

Time flies when you’re having fun…

The boxes of animals are like ones sold here in the UK in stores called Poundland they are not very big. I always thought the Revell figures were the same size as Airfix the medieval were small but the rest seemed fine to me. I like the German pioneers the best unusual poses.

You might be right. After my experience with the ACW and 100 Years War I stayed away from Revell. As I said, I loved the poses and had their 1/72 scale figures – but the size difference in the sets I had was just too much for me.

It would figure their German Engineers would match – one of the sets I DIDN’T buy. LOL

It always baffled me as.to why Accurate made their Medievals in 1/35. With 20th Century figures I can kinda see due to 1/35 prevailing in the Model kit world. The only Medieval set I can think of done prior to Accurate’s that was in 1/35 was MPC. Airfix did their Medievals listed as 1/32 but probably closer to 1/35. So with all prior history of plastic Medievals done in 1/32 or even 1/30, Accurate decides to match up with one undersized 1/32 set by Airfix? What a waste of nicely sculpted and historically accurate figures!

The Roman and knight figures are Chinese copies of the Blue Box / Revell Epic series.
There is a slight loss of detail, as the figures have been copied same size and the painting is very slapdash.
However I have cleaned up quite a few of them and repainted and they look okay.
At one pound each in POUNDLAND stores, it also means that they are a good cheap source of conversion potential.
They also made a copy of the Roman Chariot and Tribune, occasionally the Tribune and both mounted figures turn up as foot figures in the single boxes.

I will pass the message onto the talented Peter Cole
