Odds Ends Miscellaneous Figures U.S.Toy

Odds Ends Miscellaneous Figures, we will take a look at various figures. First, we will at various knight figures including Hilco, Jescan, and U. S. Toys. Second, we look at a Timpo British Army pose that perk my interest forty plus years ago.

Odds Ends Miscellaneous Figures Knights

Odds Ends Miscellaneous Figures Jescan

If you look at the most popular types of figures made it would-be cowboys, Indians, and knights. The knight can be full armored or not. Here we have a full armored knight by Jescan.

Here is mounted full armored that I picked up years ago. Having a chance to check him after so many years in the collection, I realize he is on the wrong horse for a knight. I am not sure that he is Timpo so I leave it up to the readers to give their thoughts.
Hilco knights
Several of the Englis toy soldier companies when switching from hollow cast to plastic, they used their old molds. One of those companies was Hillco. Here we have two of their hollow cast figures in plastic. I like the leg positions of the foot figure.
U.S. Toy Crusaders
Finally, we have major fail in the U.S. Toy Crusaders. Where do we start on these figures? First, we have the poses. Second, the costuming leaves a lot to be desired. They were done by an educational company. so the figures were done not to offend people.

Timpo British Army

I first remember seeing this figure in a catalog forty years plus ago. I like the pose as it was different from the normal pose of soldier standing firing. Here the figure had his left leg upon a rock bracing his left leg to steady his left arm. I order the figure and crossed my fingers I would get it. I did and many years it resides in a cabinet that I had for my better metal and plastic figures. He now is sadly in a box as I could not take the cabinet when we moved. If can get a cabinet arrangement again I will put him there again.

Paul,, Erwin will probably correct me but I seem to remember playing with the British series in the fifties. Like you I thought this, leg on Boulder, a great pose.

Alan doesn’t worry about Erwin correcting you as you are correct. He corrects me more than anyone on the history and id of figures.

Agree.Very unique pose and not common among British or and US makers to position figure leg off base.
Spaniards brands made then more often.
50 s was start a golden era x toy soldiers in plastic.
Any as child was blessed to have then.
      Cheers.

The mounted knight is a JOHILCO or PHOENIX copy of the TIMPO knight.
It came mounted on this particular type of horse
horse that was also used for the ACW figures copied from HERALD
After the HILL factory burnt down several ex employees bought the remaining tooling and tried to re start as PHOENIX, a joke about rising from the Ashes

I had seen somewhere on the internet it was not Timpo, but could not find it last night. Thank you for the correction and the background.

The Timpo WW2 were first issued as Hollow cast metal. The plastic versions appeared around 1956. Only only pose that didn’t make it into plastic was the lying firing – at least one has never turned up !

The Jecsan knights were made for an odd set call Price Valiant.I call odd as the knights were with heavy late medieval armours not proper x King Arthur -PV era depicted in comics-news papers-books .The prince valiant was original nice pose designed and not a copy of Elastolin as Reamsa did .The set has 12 poses.Only two poses were recast in 90s ,rest set and charters figures were not .Scale 70 mm approx .
Most of knights poses are same exact poses done in previous crusades set in mail/lorigas -clothing .This time just dress in heavy armour.
It was one of last set made by Jecsan.Industrias PUCHOL who acquire Jecsan molds did release these figures in late 70s early 80s with paint kits brish to be paint but not as full sets .There some of these still around from Spain or else on ebay, todocoleccion or other sites.

  8. Peter Evans says:

It’s also worth noting that the British WW2 figure came in two versions, one with a base as shown here and one free standing.
The base version is a later tooling
