Allentown had a department store.called Hess’.This place was legendary. Max Hess would have movie and televise stars come in. Each month they would a a close out day called clean up. There they would have bargains. Laurie worked at Hess’ for a period of time and dread it. The rush of the crowd sounded like a herd of elephants. She and her boss would either hide in their tiny office or stand with arms and legs against the wall. They would do it avoid the stampede. She saw people fight and tear apart for items.
I would go to these clean ups. One of them I bought a bunch of Donnie Osmond notebooks. I got the notebooks because they were so cheap a quarter each. The note books were used to hold my plastic protectors that held my boy scout patches. I gave up that hobby but kept the notebooks and sold them over the years. We will see what happens.
