A film called ‘Tempest’ featured Pugachev rebellion.

Don Ducote’s figures are Timpo v 2.0 – excellent modelling and great vfm

The Russian Semi-Flat are nice with some nice poses but I dont usually buy flat or semi-flat figures so i’m not sure about those, But I really like Dons Swappable knights and plan on getting some of those, Plus I also really like it that he has made Shields and weapons to buy which is always handy. Although I often look on ebay for figures I dont recall seeing any of these, Can someone direct me to where they are so I can decide wether to buy some of these and maybe some shields and weapons also? Although I have looked at the Heritage website before and liked the figures there I haven’t brought any because you cannot pay by paypal which has put me off.

  3. Don Perkins says:

Darren, in Stad’s article above, there is a link to the Heritage website, showing the whole line, with prices.

Don Ducot’s Heritage Swoppets are a brilliant creation — colorful and well-designed — everything that makes toy soldiers neat — and even better, in my opinion, than Timpo versions. I saw them at OTSN the last time I attended, and they really do look even better in person. But at $9.00 per figure, I can’t afford to build too big of an army, which is what my usual preference is.

However, his new weapons and especially those beautiful shields are easily affordable, and fill in a gap for all the Timpo figures which are missing their components. Looking at his website, his new tree production with replacement boughs & branches looks pretty good, too. Everyone who’s got the Britain’s oak trees, birches, etc., knows some of the branches tend to break or disappear. And I especially like those natural-looking grass lines. They look just like the grasses that the “thin red line” rose up from at Waterloo to stop the advancing French, as depicted in my Classic Illustrated comic “Waterloo”. At fifty cents each, I think it’s affordable to get 20 of them.

If you read Mr. Ducote’s account (on his website) of his miserable travails with PayPal, you can readily understand why he swore it off some time ago. But, like Toy Soldier HQ, you get used to sending a check, and then when you find out the service is just fine, you don’t mind anymore. Of course, Don often shows up at the east coast shows, plus OTSN, but I realize Darren probably isn’t inclined to zip over from England just for that.

    • Don Perkins says:

Darren, sorry. When I re-read your post, I realize you had already found the website, and were looking for an alternate ebay source.

  4. Darren Hatley says:

Hi and thanks Don, Yeah I have looked at Dons website a few times and I agree with you that at $9.00 per figure I couldn’t and wouldn’t buy that many of these figures but I would like to own at least a few of them. I understand if Don has hes reasons for not using paypal but ive used paypal for quite a few years now and have had no trouble at all and really is my preferred method of payment. Me on the other hand have had a few bad experiences with cheques in the past especially receiving and sending overseas and I swore I would never deal in cheques overseas again and i’m standing by that. I might be willing to pay by credit card, But if Don is selling on ebay I would like to see what he is selling and also see how he wants people to pay, As I find 99% of people on ebay use paypal. If it is payment by cheque only I wont have any i’m afraid.

Yes, I was just starting to get used to the Expeditionary Force price of $4.00 per figure, but even at that price (for me), it becomes pretty expensive just to get 1 box of each set ExForce issues, much less to build the traditional armies we could with Marx, Timpo, CTS, TSSD, Paragon, Conte, etc. But when I saw Dulcote’s Heritage swoppets at OTSN, they really were quite artistic, beautiful figures. I was looking specifically at his Robin Hood woodsmen & archers, Crusader knights, and War of 1812 Americans & British. At the time, they were $8.oo per figure, and when groups of them were lined up, made an impressive sight.

  6. Darren Hatley says:

Yeah Dons figures do look good and I would like to own a few of the Robin Hood, Viking, And Knights figures. I’m in the same position as you in that I cannot afford to just splash cash on every figure that comes out these days as Toy Soldiers are gradually getting more and more expensive, So i’m being much more picky these days in that for a start as ive mentioned before I will not be buying anymore figures that go over 60mm not matter how great they look. Plus as much as I like the Ex-Force figures I agree with you that buying every set is too expensive, So what I do is say there is 10 different sets in a certain line of figures like say the Persians, Instead of buying all 10 sets I will buy 2 or 3 sets and settle for that.

  7. TDBarnecut says:

The issues with Pay pal seem to be problems that the sellers have to deal with, not the buyers. If you’re only buying, etc. it seems to work great.

The price point on Don’s figures is completely up to him, since he is the designer & maker. There is no middle-man or retailer adding a mark-up. If collectors are paying his asking price then he has no logical reason to lower it. I don’t know if Don is also a collector, but you might ask him if he is open to trading some figures. That way you could obtain some of his figures without a big outlay of $$.

    • Don Perkins says:

That’s what I was thinking about PayPal, too. As a buyer, I’ve never had any problem using PayPal. But I’ve never been a seller using it. And after reading Mr. Ducote’s description of the horrendous problems he encountered, I can understand his reluctance to keep using it.

But, Mr. Ducote, you might want to seriously consider setting up a credit card system through your local bank. Although the credit card company does take 2 – 3% of each purchase, most business find that allowing customers the convenience of using credit cards increases your volume of business many times over.

That is what our law office found when we went to credit card use many years ago. We found that clients/customers who would hesitate to write out a check for a few hundred or a thousand dollars would not hesitate for a second to pull out a credit card and charge the same amount. And just for your information, when a customer uses a credit card, the funds are automatically posted to your checking account the very next day.

It isn’t complex to set up. Your local bank can do it for you very easily, such that you can immediately began taking both Visa and Mastercard over the phone.

It was a toy soldier dealer himself who told me a few years back about his good luck going to credit cards. I can’t remember for sure — it was either TSSD or Ron Barzso.

  8. Darren Hatley says:

After looking again at Dons website he does indeed seem to be thinking about using payment by credit cards, I think it would do hes business a lot of good but of course its up to him. As I said if hes had trouble with paypal and he doesn’t want to use it then fair enough. All I can say is that ive both brought and sold over two thousand transactions and I cannot remember any problems with paypal. Of course you will get a few people that can become a problem but again most people are fine. So if Don does bring in the use of credit cards I will be interested in purchasing some of hes figures as I do think they look great. As far as the price goes they are a little bit more than I would like but i’m sure he knows what hes doing and of course he must make a profit.

  9. Carl Cwiklinski says:

There was a great Van Heflin film called “The Tempest” about Pugachev’s revolt. It can be found on Netflix from time to time.

  10. Viruz says:

    Good morning,
    I do have one question.
Are the shields and weapons still available ?
    Many greetings from Germany…
    from Viruz
