Pirates

Our very good friend Erwin Sell sent us more pictures and update on the pirates we showed from Party City.  This photo from Erwin shows the complete set. You will notice that the captain was done in two versions, one with hook hand and wood leg, the other pose as normal person. Others poses include are two Asian style pirates and one pose that was cloned from one below but not same as carry  sword versus saber and different belt. So they are 8 different poses. (Erwin sold them in bags and loose too at shows)for years. Erwin still has  few pirates left in case you want to get them. The pirates were produced from 2003 till 2009.

Second picture show another full set of pirates that were sold at party stores too not longer produced. they are about 60mm.

The third photo shows another set that has 6 poses but only 5 poses are shown here. They were also sold at Party City in late 90’s . (Editor’s note we showed these figures sometime back as pirates with elf shoes.)

The fourth photo shows another set sold in bags at museums and some Disney park stores too. This one has several Chinese/Asian type ethnic pirates but pistols are more rare and clothing more modern in some. They are about 70 mm scale from late 90’s. (Editor’s note some these poses are being sold unpainted in Target in a bag in the dollar section. There is a seventh pose of a pirate kneeling firing a rifle.)

Last picture shows a twelve pose set that apparently come out to match Pirates of the Caribean movie as many figures match or resemble their characters with 6 skeleton pirates and 6 pirates. The figures were sold in bags. (Editor’s note I believe the pirates were done first as I had them as part of ship. The skeleton pirates were done later because of the movies.)

I have other opinion. If you look closely at first picture, you can see what both Captains and bottom row pirates have different plastic and style.

In my opinion here one set (probably incomplete), but I never saw other figures in same style. It’s first generation.

Well I got all assortment in bags together from same suppliers in a set of 8 as that and did resale bags for long..I still have some extras and mine definitely are hard rubber bended material-same. A 48 figures assortment 8 poses box was sold by suppliers to retail at stores. US toy and amscan distribute then from 2003-2009.I was a buyer for them. Most these figurines are done for kids as novelties for party stores /else , company stores in US such as party city, party outlet,FCPO are supplied by AMSCAN ,the main world novelty toy supplier. From then I got most, others set are from other sources. Chances are the same figurines were used by small toy distributer to create different sets/else as all time happen in toy products.
A brand new set of 8 poses is coming to party stores soon from amscan now, it was released in 2013/14.
Denitz both first and second pictures you sent had mix figures set in the groups according to my finds and purchases.
