Update

Ed sent this following information.

I should have gave you more history, the guy that makes those was one of the founder of Ral Partha, they made metal figures in 25mm mainly ancients, medieval, fantasy type. He started sculpting at 16. I guess now he’s semi-retired , but does stuff for his own amusement and his kids. He’s a great sculptor.

I’ve been a fan of Tom Meier’s work ever since I was a D&D playing teenager buying his Ral Partha 25mm fantasy figures. These caricature figures are very amusing! I don’t think I will buy any though, as I am not a huge Napoleonics collector and resin is too fragile for my tastes. Apparently these figures are still available from Thunderbolt Mountain miniatures at $8.00 each.

    • Mark T. says:

Actually, they don’t seem to stock the grenadier but the others are all there.

I bought some years ago and those pictured just recently, he didn’t have the Old Guard on his site this time, but they sent the one in the picture for free. The free one was missing the bayonet, but it’s still a cool figure. Napoleon is amusingly small compared to the others and of course the horse. I don’t do Napleonics either, but I found them amusing and just had to have them. They are outstanding sculpts.

They are not a fragile resin like older Barzso figures or some of the newer stiff plastic offerings out there nor do they have the rough feel of resin, they are a smooth hard plastic. They are by no means indestructible, but I wouldn’t classify them as overly fragile either.

Thanks for the info about the resin, Ed. I must have had to glue back over half of my Barszo weapons at one time or another so I am very leery about anything labelled “resin”. Nice to know these are more solid.

I really do like the Highlander and might try to fit him into a “Bushy Run” battle with my woodland Indians. Napoleon is also a possibility for the novelty value. I wish Meier would do some 54mm wild west, WW2 or medieval characters. He’s a true master.

He did a set of French and Indian war figures a few years ago.
Might have been 40 mm, I can’t remember. It was only 6 or 7 figures that made a vignette. There were some Indians, involved I think.

I hav some of his Thunderbolt Elves that I use in my LOTR armies.

    • ed borris says:

Yes, he has them for sale on his site as well as some fantasy figures. I’m tempted to buy, “slug eat your face”, just because it’s cool.
