Well seems the big scale is in the top of line production demand again as this show.
Any how I’m a fan of RRT and the movies done.
But when they release the so well done and real articulated(with out even notice junction) true 1.32 scale after first movies ,they did not sold good after 2 to 3 years and ended all over in discount, eBay and shows at good bargain prices. I manage build a big army of it after .But even so I’m pro big scale in most cases I have to accept that if these new would be done in plastic range they will be a big disappointed x me and many who got all previews in 1.32 scale as would not match at all. The play along actually are in the small range of 1.32 scale -51/54 mm max on human poses.
On this new Unless using a monster/evil character they won’t match good with smaller.
Any how this is a different company(WETA); involved and created during production in NZ of the 3 films and they made most metal swords weapons and props x film, so that explain the Zink alloy .And I bet the prices would be collectible high first!!
Adding up to fantasy well done figures …
I had not see yet a “game of thrones” figures but again and base in sales of walking death 1.32 range done I think the sale will go down quick.
Once more every time painted nice figures made debut in the typical 1.32 scale in big retails they fail versus big action type figures.
Definitely kids interest is far big over others than our typical hobby.
    Too sad.
    My opinions

I have to disagree with the Play Along LOTR figures being on the smaller scale of 1/32. The figures were advertised as 3 inch scale when they came out. The human and Elven figures even without bases tower over 1/32 Marx/Airfix figures. The heads and thickness are similar to 1/32 so they do fit in as taller warriors. The Hobbit and Dwarves are equal to the Airfix 1/32 scale. I think the Play Along LOTR should fit in with 1/30 scale of WETA is true to scale.

  3. erwin says:

    Ok Tom.
If you red well I was referring to “Humans” figures. I may be off 2 to 4 mm ,but not at all 1.30= 64/70 mm=range
The figures were exact done in proportion base in books description and films.
Human are smaller than Elves and High orks wile taller than Hobbies and dwarves as well others. Rohirians are generally smaller than Dunedain and so .
I just put Éowyn character next to 54 mm x picture and Gandalf(in fact the tallest character in books in good side as he is a Maiar, not human) and clearly show that are not 1.30 scale which is any figure from 64/70 mm range aprox.
No doubt some run taller as few elves ,specially in terrain bases. But definitely not in 1.30 scale. Now again we have to see what is done as one thing is what they said, other what is done.

    Erwin,
From what I read about scale, 54mm=1/32 and 60mm=1/30. If WETA does Humans at that scale and all other beings off that (Dwarves, Hobbits 50-54mm and Orcs, Elves at 64mm than they should fit in with Play Along.
It would be wise for WETA to create dioramas that would appeal to both Fantasy and true historical Medieval collectors. Helms Deep or a section of the Gondorian fortress(I forget the name), could double as fantasy and Medieval for the most part.

    Tom
And according to King and country and all listed figures as 1.30 scale that claim as 60mm ,they are not, they are 65mm or taller with out counting the base=TSSD,LAD romans ancient ,WW2 ancient EX Forces ,First legion, atlantic BOXES show ancients as 1.30,but the figures with out the crest hemet and base are 64/64 mm-measure please. I know they list 60mm as 1.30,but none of those mention as 1.30 are 60 mm at all but much taller. So I base it in the scale big range and to other measures site 1.30 is above 65 mm.
But regardless of your reading opinion and mine …
I just set a Marx 54 mm(in fact he is 56 mm) and replicant 54 mm next to a figure as you said all figures were taller than Marx 54 mm and that 54 mm airfix- Marx were same high as hobbit or smaller characters.
As the picture clear show a human Play along is same high as the Marx 54 mm and Replicant, yet the 60 mm Marx WOW original in picture is taller than Gandalf that actually is taller than Éowyn with base.So human play along are not 60 mm =1.30 as per said and that was I was referring to again.
So I guess the picture show all of what I mean.
    Regales again of scale opinion.
Yes I agree With you they should do same as followed and match with PA figures line ,but WETA so far indicate metal type casting ,not plastic, I think this will be a collectible line ,not a long line.
The toys company sale more out real action figures and big than this.
It a clear testament what happen to SW -commands sets, I got reports of not good sales in the walking death 1.32 scale ,the BB fantasy set suspended. Games of thrones are actually loosing TV audience a lot ,so it may end before start in the production line but those done probably. All clear samples they will not risk.
Again I’m realistic and not dreaming. I may sound pessimist, but our hobby will never matter to the big manufactures, that era is gone.
They look x fast and quick money out big massive production. Every year comic and movies coming are a constant replenishment in products x toys manufactures that every three month have to produce new toys for the film industry and game alike
Generic figures in our scales 50-65 mm are not their interest.
WETA is a metal maker factory, they are having limited fun with this and I doing they will be cheap at all.
Fantasy is still strong x gamers ,but not a potential x big retailers in our hobby scales.

    Erwin,
Sorry I have to nitpick with you but your representative for a human Play Along LOTR is Eowyn a woman who is sculpted smaller and placed next to male 1/32 figures. The Gandalf figure is leaning or bending and standing next to a straight as a board Pirate. I am not good at this I phone photography thing but I dragged out some figures from my Medieval collection that are supposed to be 60mm. The male Rohan warrior without base is taller than the Ex Force Man-At-Arms and Crossbowman as well as the Marx 60mm knight. Same with the baseless Boromir figure also taller than Ex Force and Marx 60mm Knight. I have been converting and painting abunch of the Medieval Xforce when I am done I will try to send to Stad to post.
The McFarlane Game of Thrones “Building” set figures are 1/35 at best and do not seem to be selling that well at the local TRU. I bought some and they are well sculpted but just too small for me to invest heavy in when I am into the Ex Force, Marx 60mm, Reamsa, Barszo size Medievals. It would be my dream to have Game of Thrones done in 60mm but I think we probably won’t see them. I think McFarlane took a risk with G.O.T. Because kids are not or shouldn’t be familiar with the series with it’s strong violence and nudity. So McFarlane set him self up wth the market of only adult collectors hence the slagging sales. It is too bad about GOT and especially where its author grew up with Marx and collects Medieval Toy Soldiers. Maybe with all the $$ George RR Martin makes with GOT he make his own plastic 60mm line!😊

Not sence argue x this x long.
Im glad to see u picture.
Funny part im trying today side with the 54 mm fan and now I got a big scale fan on it.
I do collect big more than any other.
But also notice that many u mention are not 60mm.
So ,yes rohirian girl is small.so is the figure from replicants w open legs too.
Gandalf would stand will not pass marx pirate that actually is the 59 mm from base bottom to top head as is a HEIMO german made using the small verssiom mold.
But again we can go x hours.
I will ask Paul my pass my phone too in case u want text me the phone.
