Plastic Warrior Special

001

There are many ways to collect plastic figures.  One way is to collect by company, another way is to collect figures by subject such as pirates. This second way allows you collect figures from many different companies. In the Plastic Warrior Roman Special we have a great example of this type of collection. We have here the collection of  Peter Evans (full disclosure Peter Evans is a very good friend of ours.) showing the many different types of Roman figures made around the world.

The special breaks the subjects by types such as roman legion, tribunes, civilians etc. This allows you to compare the figures from different companies side by side so you could decide which one you might want to add to your collection. Peter has figures in various scales ranging from 45mm to six inches.  Besides the figures themselves, Peter has packaging from various sources beside himself. Peter does not restrict himself from toy soldier companies, but also has resin figures sold to tourists in Italy.  One page shows prototypes including the Britains Romans that one chariot driver was made. Another set of prototypes shown are the Romans that Peter did for Toyways. This was a follow up  to the knights that Peter did for them.  Toyways decided to carry the Heroic Romans instead.

Another section of the Roman Special is the various conversions that Peter did for himself. Peter’s range from a simple  such as a new paint scheme to completely changing the figure.

The complaints a very minor.  The Marx Roman with sword and round shield arms are in a wrong position. ( I am going to get one in the correct position for him.) also the Replicants Roman base is incomplete.  Some people will say what are certain figures are not included, they have to realize this is a work in process.

If you are interested in Romans this special is for you.  I hope PW does other specials like this.

This Special on Romans looks interesting to me, too. I remember the good old days when Admin was the U.S. Agent for Plastic Warrior subscriptions, and we had the convenience and economy of getting our subscriptions from a U.S. distributor, which seemed less expensive and more convenient than ordering each individual subscription directly from Europe. When we had that arrangement, I subscribed to Plastic Warrior for several years. I wish we still had that set-up, and then I could easily order this Roman Special as well.

That was in the days before email and PayPal when everything had to be done by letter. These days we can give a much better direct service to readers outside the UK.

          Don
You should contact Paul Morehead at the email given in Peter Evans’ comment. Plastic Warrior takes PayPal so it is an easy transaction than today. I have not got a foreign money order in years and use PayPal only. Getting money orders in foreign currency is a pain. Back when I was their agent I could go to the main office of my bank and get money order. The main office is long gone and if you go to a branch it could be hassle.

OK, thanks for the Paul Morehead and Admin response. I’ve emailed Mr. Morehead at the PW editor address.

I guess sometimes we have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century.
