York Toy Show 2023

The York Toy Show is the last major toy show in my area. I enjoyed this show and after my stint in the hospital, I had to go. This year they added early rights so I did not have to wait outside. I left early in the morning and arrived around 7;15 AM. After paying my early rights I started to walk around. I saw Tom Stine and kidded him on buying another Marx Alamo playset. I walked around but many tables were still closed. I found a few items and then wait for my very good friend Gerry Watts to get open.

Gerry was upset that a playset he had on his table had disappeared. It was the first time he had something taken at this show. Then a miracle happen, when Gerry went into a cigar box under his table he found a note and envelope. The people who he had shown the playset had decided to take it but could not wait so they left the agreed price with the note. It turn around his feelings on the day and was the start of a day of sales.

I went through Gerry’s material and found a number of items for resale and a few items for my collection. From Gerry’s table, I went to Kerry and his tables where I found some pieces While I was there Pat Mugavin and Mark Hegeman came by and we talked. I went looking for some other dealers but they were not there. Still, other dealers made the trip worthwhile. One dealer had some bags of figures at half price. One of the bags had what looked like Hong Kong swoppet western. I purchased it for a customer. When I got it home I discovered the bag was mostly Timpo swoppet cowboys a later version.

My second surprise of the day was after I bought some items that a person had held for me. As I was walking back to get my items to leave. I noticed a set of the Starlux Aliens. I had a few pieces but not the entire set of ten figures. They will be in a future post.

Satisfy with a great day I said my goodbyes and head home. One final note my walking was much better. When I did the show at Allentown at the beginning of the month I could only do two rows at a time before I had to rest. York, I was able to walk around a number of rows. It is amazing how losing 30 pounds of water can change things.
