The sets are now available for immediate shipment.

These are supplementary sets arising from a re-working of the toolings for 60 PSN 06 Y Satrap Guard Heavy Cavalry which needed repair.

We took the opportunity to re-do the sculpts for the models and added a few extra items to enhance the range of options for collectors who wishes to see the famous regiments of the Persians which were previously not covered.

Please be informed that although six sets are offered, the core elements of the models in the six sets are the same. Only the heads and certain accessories are different among the sets.

The previous sculpts (60 PSN 06 Y) were done by contract sculptors and their style of sculpting was somewhat different from our current in-house sculpts. Hence, the re-do.

Types of Cavalry

60mm Persian Satrap Guard Cavalry (Phrygian - Heavy Cavalry) = 60 PSN 06-A

The set contains 5 model soldiers plus 5 horse models comprising of 1 officer and 4 troopers. The heads and arms are interchangeable to enable the assembly of at least 10 different action poses. This set is designed specifically to supersede the previous set of Satrap Guard Cavalry (60 PSN 06 Y). We do this to ensure that our historical range is not affected by discontinuation of essential army elements.

It is our intention for a box-set to depict only a single unit. This is to facilitate collectors who requested the supply of different heads etc. to form units. It also made it easier for us to design components to allow for a closer depiction of historical details.

The Satrap Guards are the security guarantee for the Persian rulers of provinces where the native population could be non-Persian or even hostile. These soldiers are thus full-time professionals. One of the most famous Satraps in history is that of Cyrus the Younger at Sardis. Among his subjects are the Phrygians who are famous warriors with a reputation as very good horsemen.

We have continued to depict these troopers as heavy cavalrymen with horse armor and crested helmets. They are also armed with both spear and bow which are their traditional weaponry. Their dress is similar to their foot counterparts in 60 PSN 04-F Phrygian Satrap Guard Infantry.

60mm Babylonian Cavalry (Medium Cavalry) = 60 PSN 06-B

60mm Babylonian Cavalry (Medium Cavalry) = 60 PSN 06-B

Like the one before, this set also contains 5 model soldiers plus 5 horse models comprising of 1 officer and 4 troopers. This set depicts one of the famous components of the Persian army, the Babylonians. Babylonia is a very prosperous region of the Persian Empire and from the early days of the empire, many Persian loyal clansmen are allotted land in this region and served as landed colonist cavalrymen to control the region for the Persian king.

Babylonian troopers are depicted as medium cavalrymen with unarmoured horses but with their characteristic crested bronze helmets.

60mm Median Cavalry (Medium Cavalry) = 60 PSN 06-M

 60mm Median Cavalry (Medium Cavalry) = 60 PSN 06-M
As before, this set also contains 5 model soldiers plus 5 horse models comprising of 1 officer and 4 troopers. This set depicts one of the core components of the Persian army, the Medes (Median is the adjective).

The Medes are ethnically related to the Persians and are treated as equal partners. In our previous sets, we have not designed a set to depict the unique headdress of the Medes. The Medes were horsemen from early times while the early Persians were more of infantry. Thus, the tunic and trousers suited for riding are referred to as Median dress.

Median troopers are depicted as medium cavalrymen with unarmoured horses. Their main weapon is the javelin or light spear while many also continue to carry the bow.

Expeditionary Force Persian Cavalry Royal Kinsmen Cavalry

60mm Royal Kinsmen Cavalry (Extra-Heavy Cavalry) = 60 PSN 14-G

Persian cavalry underwent a major change to their equipment and fighting style in the latter part of the Achaemenid period. The bow was abandoned in favor of heavier shock tactics. The increased supply of stronger cavalry mount, especially as the Nisaean horse, allow for the adoption of heavier horse armor. Wealthy Persian and Median aristocratic warriors begin to adopt various styles of horse armor with the dramatic Bactrian winged armor making its appearance.

The most prestigious of the Persian army is the Royal Kinsmen Cavalry and we felt that they would be the most befitting to be equipped with the best and most expensive armor. They are reserved for the decisive charge in battle.

This box-set contains 5 model soldiers plus 5 horse models comprising of 1 officer and 4 troopers as per our standard arrangement.

These heavy cavalrymen did not disappear upon the collapse of the Persian empire in 330 B.C. but continue to serve the various warlords of the Hellenistic period as allied or mercenary units.

60mm Lydian Lancers (Heavy Cavalry) = 60 PSN 14-L

Heavy cavalry

Last but not least, we come to the Lydian Lancers. The Lydians have much Greek influence in their culture and their helmets are Greek in style. There is a suggestion that it was the Lydian Lancers that influence the development of the Macedonian Companion Cavalry that also emphasise shock action.

The Lydian horse is also well known for its strength and Lydian Lancers of the Persian period would have adopted the prevalent fashion of the times.

What is Coming and Updates

Next Release

The next sets to be released are from the 54mm War of 1812 range with options for the Alamo scenario, which is pending test casting.

Looking forward to your kind support.

Stay safe.

Cheers,

Scott

PS: This popular set, 60 PSN 06 Y, is out of production and is now replaced by the above box sets. Note that the Babylonian, Lydian, and Phrygian helmets are retained in the new sets (though re-sculpted).

The main release for May 2021 was supposed to be 54 AMR 05 Scott’s Brigade infantry for the War of 1812 but our production team faced instances of power outages recently at their locale. The toolings were already completed around first week of May 2021 but to-date they have not been able to send me the test castings. The manufacturing situation in China is reported to be heated with rising costs, material shortages and disruptions.

This is thus only a first part product release for May 2021 for those customers interested in this period of history. There will be a second release in the later part of May for the remaining sets.

I seek your kind understanding and support.
