Toy Hunter Update

Checking on Jordan Hembrough of Toy Hunter, we see he has been a busy person. First Jordan has been traveling around the country filming season three of the show.  We were surprised that Jordan had visited the Saint Louis Toy show as  Jordan had put his nose up on this type of show. In fact when Jordan attended the Wayne Toy show in Wayne, New Jersey, it was first time anyone saw him at toy show or flea market in his area.

Jordan is getting ready for the New York Comic Con which is on for the weekend of  Oct 10 to the 13.  Jordan will have  250 Star Wars carded figures plus other items.  Jordan will be doing a panel on Saturday at 1:45PM to 2:45PM in 1A08. With Jordan will be Daniel Schwartz the executive producer of the  show. The panel  will be moderated by Sam Roberts of SirusXM.  “This new season will feature more celebrities as the scope of this toy hunter’s travels expands beyond basements and attics – taking him to bigger conventions, more Comic Cons and even overseas.”  to quote the description of the panel. Later Jordan will be signing autographs from 3 to 4 PM at Table 5. (Please note this is from  NYCC Comic com schedule so it is subject to change.) Jordan will be also be at his booth 2344 from Friday to Sunday.  It will be interesting to see how much he claims he sells this year at the show. If you are at the show you should be able to see them filming for Toy Hunter show.

After that the next thing up will be the Halloween special on October 20th, which I will review.

I hope someone tapes the  Toy Hunter panel at New York Comic Con so I can see it as I will not be up to the show.  The cost for one day admission for the show is $45.00! Plus you are fighting a large crowd, last year’s attendance was 116,000 people.  Also I will be attending a toy show in Delaware on Sunday and I would rather spend my money there. We will stop at authentic Mexican restaurant on the way home.

One final thing, when I last talked about Toy Hunter I used a term “I have seen behind the curtain”.  When I used that term I am saying  that I have learn more that what the public is aware of.  This happens through research on the internet and seeking out people involve with the show.  For example I found out from the internet that Steve Savino Jordan’s assistant was selling some of the items that appeared on the Toy Hunters Show at the Wayne Toy Show this month.  I was not surprised as not all of the items  that is bought on the show are not taken to the shows Jordan does.  When you do a show, you have to know your market and while some items like a Renwal Viking ship which was at the Wayne Toy show  is great for  television, at a comic con it would very likely to sit on the shelf. Renwal Viking Ship would be a great item for general toy show or toy soldier show.

Another example which I may have mention before was a question that the person that bid against Jordan at the Sellersville Auction was real or a plant.  I  was able to check through reliable sources that the person was real and bought the items shown in the episode for resale.

Hi I love following your Toy Hunter updates page and figured seeing I was at NYCC this past weekend I’d give you as much insight as possible. I was able to talk with Jordan for about five minutes and he was telling me about season three and all its expectations. The interesting part was that his apprentice Travis was present and he had told me he’s going to be a vital role in this season becoming a main character. Present at the booth was Jordan, Steve, Travis, and Jordan’s friend David. They were definitely getting a lot of attention and I was surprised to see how many people actually took pictures and got autographs of Travis seeing he was only in two episodes prior to NYCC. He had seemed to be a definite crowd pleaser at the show. Steve remained his typical goofy self which everyone loves. Over the course of the four day con I went to the toy hunter booth every day to get some insight into the episode. Its great to find someone who loves the show just as much as me.

    Thanks, Jon

      Welcome Jon

Glad you like my updates and comments on Toy Hunter. You will find I am not a fan of Jordan, I am perhaps his biggest critic. As a toy dealer of 35 plus years I cringe at some of his mistakes in prices etc. His rookie mistakes on dealing with Gene Simmons of Kiss were unbelievable. I respect Steve Savino as he is a true toy hunter like myself.
Since you were at the New York Comic Con, you can answer some questions for me and my readers. When you visited the Toy Hunter stand (For readers Jordan’s company is Hollywood Collectibles.), did you see many purchases? Jordan tweeted me that he sold a Defiant sold for $1700. Eternia sold for $2700. Blythe for $1200. He had a bite on 12-Back set for $20K. Sold out of some T’s (We tolerate each other.) Another question how were the other toy dealers doing at the show. One thing my wife Laurie and I do is look at how many people have packages at a show.

Jon thank you for your comments and please write again. I will be reviewing the Halloween special that is on October 20th at 8PM EST.

For readers of the blog an explanation on some of the items that Jordan mention in his tweet. The Defiant that Jordan mention is Defiant GI Joe Space Shuttle. It is a real space killer in your vehicle unless you have a truck. It is also space killer on your stand. Jordan had it at Chicago C2E2. The Eternia which is from Master of the Universe is a castle and is another space killer. Blythe is a doll which his assistant Steve Savino found last season. The 12 back is about Star Wars. It refers to the back of the card, which shows 12 pictures of Star Wars characters. Checking EBay I found a Han Solo 12 back at auction $835.00 and a Darth Vader at auction for $2225.00.

I did not witness the sales of the said items but I did notice their presence at the beginning of the convention and then the fact they were missing by Friday. The largest sale I witnessed happened to be made by Travis which was on a AFA mail-a-way 4-loam for $400 dollars. He definitely has some salesmen skills. As of now honestly I think Travis was the best thing to happen to the show. I Love Jordan and Steve as well, but I think all the characters add up to make a great story.

To make a good show, you need great characters. I feel that most reality shows I watched are for the characters over the content. I have no interest in motorcycles or bicycles that American Pickers find, but I find myself caught in their enthusiasm when they find the stuff.
I have no opinion as yet on Travis as he has only been on two shows. I was not sure if he was with the show in production side and was used in the selling section to save money or part of Jordan’s crew. Talking to Steve Savino recently, I found out that Travis was a friend of Jordan. Travis was one who rotated the Defiant the G.I Joe Space Shuttle box in C2E2 show, which was good move as Jordan had the box positioned wrong. I will comment on Travis as I see more of him in the new season.

I agree I can’t wait to see what Travis adds to season 3, I know because ever since the c2e2 episode my kids look for him every episode. As I said before I think its the fact that a young kid has interest in toys almost double his age. I also think it shows other kids his age and younger that collecting toys is a cool thing to do. I think will a full cast of Jordan, Steve, and Travis the show is going to gain the edge it needs.

    Thanks, Jon

Travis might be in tomorrow’s Toy Hunter Halloween Special as Jordan is getting items for Horehound a convention. Travel Channel has a clip up of the special when Jordan was at Salem Toy Museum. It has a major goof in the Universal Monster photos shown, they have a picture of Lon Chaney Senior as a vampire. Lon Chaney Senior did that role for London after Midnight, which was a MGM film not Universal.
I will be reviewing the Halloween special.
