Odds Ends Staying Safe Marx Trees Shows

Odds Ends Staying Safe, I have a number of items to pass your time. First, we will look at Marx Trees. Next, I have a link to an article on the gags from the back of the comic books. Third, shows updates. Finally, my latest experience with grocery shopping and takeout.

One item I am constantly looking for resale is the Marx trees. Marx made three different single tree styles. The one above is the one I have found most often is the one I called Oaktree. Kent Sprecher calls it “A” or delta tree. The trees first showed up in the 50s’ and usually had two trees in each playset.
The trees were done in had and soft plastic. One of the interesting stories I had on Marx trees was a complaint I got from one person. He said that the trees were not the right shade of green for Marx Civil War playset. I replied I did not know what the shade was in the playsets. As I bought loose I could not guarantee that I could get the right shade of green. I should have used a phrase the late Peter Fritz has “Like era parts.” LOL

Comic Book Gag items

Collector’s Weekly has a nice article about two collectors Stand and Mardi Timm has collected the various items from the Johnson Smith Company. This company sold the Whoopee Cushions, snake in a nut can, etc. Check it out here.

Shows Update

As we noted before various shows have been canceled or dates moved. We can add to that list Chiller, London Toy Soldier Show, and MFCA. Chiller held in New Jersey is a great place to meet actors from movies and television. Laurie was interested in meeting Harry Hamlin from Clash of the Titans (the original) They have moved their show to June and hope to get many of their guests back. London Toy Soldier Show canceled their March show. The next show is on June 27, 2020. MFCA has canceled this year’s show.

We will keep watching and keep you up to date.

Grocery Shopping Part Three

As I reported in my previous report on grocery shopping, I had some problems getting a few items. Since then I have been able to get enough water in. We use spring water as our city puts in fluoride in the mix. I had gotten a piece of information that a grocery store in Emmaus, a town south of us had the spring water in cases. I had to take Percy for a test with the veterinarian which has his practice in Emmaus. After I dropped Percy off, when to the grocery store and picked up a case of spring water.

At the moment, I only have one or two items I still need but they are minor. I have not seen the long lines that they seemed to be getting in other places. I have also done takeout to help a couple of restaurants. We hope this problem gets resolved soon

CTS makes a pair of very nice, well made trees for around $7.95. They go perfectly with Marx trees. Hunkering in place here in Connecticut. The State is pretty much shut down except for groceries, pharmacies, gas stations, and, of course, Walmart!! Restaurants doing take out only. Stupid people still hoarding toilet paper, so Costco has limits of one pack, one jug of milk, and one carton of eggs per customer. If we can’t act like adults, we WILL be treated like children…. What’s new???? I miss the gym, but other than that, kind of enjoying the quiet.

Here in Central Ohio we have been leading the country in shutting down the various crowd-based industries (schools, sports, bars, restaurants, parks, libraries, cinemas, and even barbershops). As a high-school teacher it has been different as I love my work and miss the students and my fellow workers. I finally went out yesterday to check on my mother and, luckily, heavy rainstorms and flooding brought some of us back to early-spring reality – something else to be more worried about than the virus.
I do agree the quiet has been nice. We still have many children playing outside in the neighborhood. I notice far fewer planes in the sky.
I have two teenage sons at home, but they have not been a bother. My wife and I have enjoyed our time together. I have caught up with some Netflix series I previously did not have time to watch. Yes, there is now time for toy soldiers, and I am organizing and planning to place a significant amount up for sale on auction sites. I am not panicking just doing what was planned for this upcoming summer.
I have been praying more, particularly for our population and our country, and have no real fear of what may occur.
My hope is that we are doing the best we can with a contagious pandemic – allowing fewer people to be hosts. I also don’t think enforced lockdowns (CA, NY, IL) will work too well if held in place. The American Spirit will probably not stand for the restrictions.
