Batman Number 89, I decided to check a comic book shop to see if they had the above book. I had seen that they were having in a cameo of the Joker’s new girlfriend Punchline. I was curious if the comic shop would have it because of the hype.
Stopping at the comic shop, I discovered that they had it available just one condition. You had to buy $40.00 of comics and then you would be able to buy it for $3.99. This was because of the demand for the book.
Checking Ebay, I found there were over 6,000 plus offerings. Now some of the other Batman 89 items, but the majority are the new book. The price range from
$20.00 to $40.00. Several parties have had the book slabbed. (“Slabbed comic books are books that have been “professionally graded” by one of the three grading companies. “) The slabbed version of this comic is been offered at $149.00 and $700.00!
Then if this is not crazy enough there is an error issue and a variant cover. I am so glad I am not a collector of comics.

I picked up a copy today for S3.99 at one of the local comic shops. I didn’t have to spend over $40 to get it. It was the last one. I have been collecting comics again for about 6 months now. I think this comic will drop in price in a few months or less. I have a feeling the Joker’s new girlfriend won’t be around for a long…..
We will have to see if the new character stays around or not. Harley Quinn started out as a secondary character in the Batman animated cartoon series. She caught on from there.
I was very active in comic books in the 70s and 80s’. Now I dabble occasionally.
From what I hear she will play a role in the next story line “Joker War”. She will probably will get killed off by Harley Quinn, lol. Year of the Villain Hell Arisen #3 comes out next week and will be the first comic with the Punchline character featured. She will also be on the cover of Batman 92 & a variant cover of 94. These comics might be worth getting.
We will see have to see if they keep her or not.
Here is an update. I did get a few graded at 9.8. The comic is worth about $60 now ungraded. It is worth around $160 now graded at 9.8. Punchline will be around for a while. She is getting her own comic now.
Glad you got a couple of them. It is interesting what a comic can go for because of the first appearance of a character.
