  • 54 FRN 12       Polish Lancers

All models are supplied unpainted. The sets are available for shipment next Monday, 30 December 2019.

The set contains 5 model soldiers and 5 horse models comprising of 1 officer and 4 troopers. The heads and arms are an interchangeable giving permutation of at least 10 different assembled postures.

Polish Lancers appear in many armies and wear basically the same uniforms except in different colors. In the French army, they appear in Blue (Polish) and Red (Dutch).

Lancers
The model troopers can be assembled into two tactical scenarios: attacking or advancing. The use of the lance requires specialized training. In pursuit and when attacking infantry in a square formation, the lancer is deadly.
Polish Lancerrs
side view
This side view shows the style of their saddlecloth with the imperial eagle emblem. These are thus part of the Imperial Guard although Polish Lancers are also found serving in Line regiments and foreign auxiliary units. We believe that trimming off unwanted details is always easier than adding details to models.
 Lancer officer

The Lancer officer is not issued with the lance and has his aiguillette on the right shoulder. (Troopers have theirs on the left).
There is a glued-on dropping horse-hair plume on his shako. This is non-regulation in the French army. (They are embellished with plume and cords for a parade.)  This item is added at the request of a regular customer and since we have space in the mold for such a small item, we just added it in.
His shabraque (saddle cloth) is that of the leopardskin, popular among light cavalry officers of the period.
Sabers go
The lance, however, is at a disadvantage in a melee and thus, lancer units always have a rear rank of troopers armed with the saber and the carbine. The arm options to assemble such troopers are included in the box-set.

British Light Dragoons

British Light Dragoons
The dress reform of the British Army in 1812 resulted in the light dragoons adopting a polish lancer jacket with a French-style shako. Their equipment remains the saber and the carbine (the short Paget carbine). Although equipped for outpost duties, they are often employed for shock actions as well when there is insufficient heavy cavalry in the field.

The Light Dragoon officer’s uniform is similar to the troopers except for extra lace on his shoulder belt and a more elaborate sabretache. ith this release, the only remaining set in the Napoleonic British range is the 95th Rifles. There will be however a few option-sets based on these British models for the Canadian army in the War of 1812.

Next release

Germanic

The next set in the production queue is the Early Germans (60 GMS 01 Germanic Symmachiarii) to be released in March 2019. These are tribal allies of the Imperial Romans participating in military expeditions for vengeance or pay. They form separate divisions in the Roman Order of Battle.
spear man
Of course, there were numerous incidences when they fought against Rome. The most famous of which was the Battle of the Teutoberger Wald in AD 9 when 3 Roman legions were destroyed.

James, as I noted in my article I just posted I get a copy of the dealer’s email which is sent out several days ahead. It does not contain the preview you got. Rahway sent me the news on the 29th, but I have been back up with other things until tonight (December 30th). Finally, when I start to write the article my mouse on my computer died, which delayed things for a half-hour until I got a replacement.
