Engineer Basevitch Set 28 Russian Civil War Cavalry

Engineer Basevitch Set 28, Igor has come up with a new set Russian Civil War Cavalry. The set is four mounted figures to fill a gap in the Russian Revolution forces. We will look at some Jim of France figures as well.

Engineer Basevitch Set 28 Russian Civil War Cavalry

Engineer Basevitch Set 28
The newest set from Engineer Basevitch is “First Cavalry Army, Russian civil war 1918-21”. The First Cavalry was a red formation that started as a guerilla force and came to be an actual military force. They participated in the Russian civil war and help the reds will the war.
Engineer Basevitch Set 28 Figures
The set has four different mounted figures. Engineer Basevitch has been doing mounted figures for Chintoys. So it seems natural for Engineer Basevitch to do mounted figures.
Flag bearer
The first of four poses is a mounted flag bearer.
Mounted with sword
The second pose is mounted with a sword up and looking out to the left.
Mounted bugler
The third pose is a mounted bugler blowing the bugle to the right.
diring rifle
The final pose is firing rifle firing to the right. These figures will fill in a gap in the Russian Civil War figures that Engineer Basevitch has done previously. People who have seen the figures are wondering if Engineer Basevitch will do World War Two Russian cavalry or if these figures can be converted. We will have to wait and see. I would like Rahway to alert me on this new issue from Engineer Basevitch.

Jim of France Figures

Jim Knight
Jim did a nice set of knights. Here we will have one of their foot knights.
Jim Zorro
Jim had a license to do Disney figures. They did a wide variety of Disney figures more than Marx did. One of the first ones I acquired was an Uncle Scrooge. here we have a Jim Zorro with sword and pistol. I don’t think he had a cape originally.

The IB figures are nice but only can be use for that short period. The long coat used by 30s and in WW2 was different and did not have the adorned button parts .Will be very forced to convert then unless cover with paint and cut remove full head as that hat was not used in WW2 either but seems difficult as neck ,head gear and clothing are very tide Sabers are also older models .The SHASHKA cossack sword was the most common used in WW2.
Jim knights, normans ,viking are awesome ,so the napoleonic poses but extremely hard find here and even abroad in good condition because typical french plastic used .

    My thoughts

Both new RB sets appear to be mounted on the Chintoys ACW horses.

Thanks for the update, there are a number of famous leaders in the First Cavalry. I am not surprised that Igor is reusing Chintoys horses. Many companies have done that the horse mold is the hardest one to make. Also, it is already down and saves money.

I’m sure many American collectors did not bother to collect the Russian Civil War sets but my brother and I picked them up and really enjoyed the sets that were produced. Combining them with AIP figures allowed for a variety of cool set ups. These sets will be nice additions to the sets that were already made. The use of Chintoys horses makes sense.

Does anybody know any information about the upcoming Chicago Toy Soldier Show that they can share? The wait for show seems like forever and I haven’t really heard a whole lot of news about what new production is going to make its way to the show. I had heard Austin miniatures has a War in the Pacific playset in the works but there are no details that I can find as to what that playset would include nor any price point. I’m looking forward to attending the show as it is always a fun time.

RE:Red cavalry ideally would like to see an 8 figure set,3 Swordmen,3 Shooters and 1 each bugler,Flag bearer.

Thank you for the info on this and also what you provided on upcoming Ex Force sets. Knowing this information gives rabid collectors like me something to look forward to. CTSS is sounding like it is going to be stocked with new stuff. I also like rifling through the old stuff to find figures I’ve been seeking or just new colors of stuff I have. The shows are one of the few places where you can find rare out of production items at great prices. Last year at Chicago I was able to snag 30 90’s recast Marx British in tan for around ten dollars. You never know what you’ll find and the hunt is the best part!

We will have the new Mexican Revolution playset from AIP on display. Rumor is there may be new German Para’s? Steve Weston should have the new Replicant Texas Rangers and all the latest EB figure sets. Rick Berry/ Michigan Toy Soldier Co. and Matt Murphy from Hobby Bunker should have all the latest EF and Chin Toys figure sets. Playset Magazine will have their new ” Battleground” DVD for sale. Austin Miniatures may have their new Japanese. Jeff Imel from Victory has a lot of new reissue product and some new prototypes/test shots of various future products for display and preview. That’s not counting all the new metal from Britain’s, King and Country, Sierra Toy Co, etc. Almost forgot, we will have very limited sets of never before released Barzso Alamo Shako Hat attackers; four in four different poses in resin based on official pewter Barzso master sculpts.

Thanks for the info Mike! I look forward to seeing you all there. If John Stengel Jr has the German paratroopers, I’m going to snag them. The Barzso Mexicans also sound intriguing.

      Thanks again,
      Alex

Addendum, Chicago Show: LOD will have their new Amazon Warriors and both Hobby Bunker and Michigan Toy Soldier Co. should have the new MARS WW2 Germans and Japanese.

It is looking like I’m going to have to rethink the amount of money I bring to the show. Last I heard when I spoke to John Stengel Jr., he was planning on making multiple sets of German Paras and was saying he was going to have more than ten poses including a machine gun team amongst other poses. How many sets of Barzso Mexicans do you and Ed have? I’m worried my brother and I are going to get screwed out of getting them because we won’t be there for room trading. It’s always a bummer when stuff gets bought up before the show even starts.
