Gun-toting Ancient Chinese Warriors Science Fiction Time

Gun-toting Ancient Chinese Warriors, yes you read the title right. Our very good friend from France Mathias has uncovered this crazy set of Chinese Warriors with modern weapons! So sit back and enjoy

Gun-toting Ancient Chinese Warriors The Figures

Gun-toting Ancient Chinese Warriors Box
As I mention above Mathias found this very odd set of six figures. They are made by a company called 52 Toys. The company does a series of six figures (there is an actual seventh figure which I will talk about later.) the troops of Qin Shi Huang, China’s first emperor.
 Chinese Warriors
The troops have been memorized as terracotta warriors. 52 Toys have taken these figures and instead of doing them with traditional weapons has added modern weapons! I know what you are thinking why? I don’t know if they are based on a book or not. There is a sub-genre in Science Fiction known as alternative history. One of the books in this genre is Guns of the South by Harry Turtledove. In this book, people going back in time to the south and give them AK47 to the confederate army.
blind box
Whatever the reason the set has six figures available in terracotta or green. They are sold in a blind box set up meaning you do not know what you are getting until you buy it.

The Poses

Leader with weapon
Here is one of the six poses a warrior right arm up an automatic rifle in the left hand.
Warrior with Gatling gun
Chinese warrior with a Minigun. They were used on gunships and helicopters. I believe they were first used by an individual in the movie Predator. You see use today in the Game Fortnite.
Gun-toting Ancient Chinese Warrior
Here we have a warrior with binoculars and walkie talkie
Advancing firing automatic weapon
The fourth pose is advancing firing an automatic weapon
Mortar man
The fifth figure is kneeling warrior with mortar.
sniper
A laying firing sniper is the last pose in the set. Like all blind box set, There is a secret figure to make you buy more sets.

Final Thoughts

This is an over the top series. It reminds me of the Pink Army Women which I showcase in 2016. For some reason, this and other series like this are popular in the Far East. Right now a dealer has the set on Ebay for $74.99. Not for everyone.

I would like to thank Mathias for letting me share these figures.

    Scale??

These figures are mere novelties. They would be so much more interesting if they had weapons of their own period rather than modern weapons. As fantasy figures they may have some appeal but as toys representing actual historical soldiers they are worthless. Too bad, as they are well detailed, nice looking figures.

For my collection I need Untouchables throwing rocks and boulders, WWI astronauts, Merryman ninjas, Sioux warriors riding kangaroos, Gold miners on pogo sticks, etc. Why aren’t they making these figures? šŸ™‚

    HeHeHe ! LOL !

  5. Brian Berke says:

Maybe they are attempting to market to millions of kids rather than the handful of parsimonious old guys who comprise the current plastic toy soldier hobby??

Set was done in 2018 They were designed in by one of competitor/makers artist as ā€œcultural reactivation programā€ toy set innovation for 3er competition in a new series of what is call (ā€˜Revitalization cultural relics in Chinaā€) In coordination with Shaanxi museum of History. They represent in ironic/symbolic way the new Chinese rearming Army power that is a ā€œimitationā€ of early first Emperor of first Chinese dynasty. In Shin Huang owns united first ancient Imperial army.
There is a second Prototype set made after very new.
The maker is 52/toys is a well know Chinese company that made 3D designed toys for Wargamers, gashapon machines toys and others.

There two blogs plus regular FB page as well where you can follow then and see the items posted in competitions.
It also supplies Museums and cultural historical places in China/Asia with imitation of souvenirs /toys else.
The figures are NOT at all intended to be in any way as toy soldiers or figures representing the era. The figures poses will likely not permit to be converted to use typical ancient Chinese weapons in many poses as their pose are as in modern training/tactical action poses with firearms in most. While some may with complete removal weapons and add shield/swords /spears .Still the price is a collectible high mark limited run price. So i doubt many will venture spend so much to cut and glue.
Still is very interesting figure set, same way Yoga Joes. https://www.yogajoes.com/

were made in 2014 here in US, the odd still interesting casualties or war set was made by a Dutch company in 2016 and as the Pink Army woman set. https://www.stadsstuff.com/?p=8062
