I recently obtained the new set of “Pirates of the Caribbean”  by MARS., I think the name has been used as a catch-all for collectors as the figures depict privateers from the period 1700 – 1750 but have no resemblance to any characters from the Disney film series. There are 8 different poses and 15 poses to a box. I did not get a duplicate of the pirate with ax and sword but \I don’t know if this figure is not included as a duplicate in other boxes or the choice of a missing figure is arbitrary. (Stad The pirate with the axe is only one in the box.)

There is a female pirate, very “Hollywood” in style, unlike the real Anne Bonney or Mary Reid, who dressed in male clothes as a defence again unwanted attention. One of the figures is depicted as wearing petticoat breeches which, to my knowledge never been done in plastic before.

Detail and poses are fine but several of them have a slightly attenuated look and the details on the pistols is not very good. They are true 54mm scale and will blend in with Marx and Barszo. There is a Disney figure shown as a comparison for scale. I would say they are a welcome addition of scurvy seadogs that would find a place in any collection

Mars Pirates Review News

Had an interesting Thursday night and day on Friday. At about 9:00 pm on Friday, Nick took a fall – in a very tight area of our house. He got all twisted up and we could not get him up off the ground. Try as we might, I was just not strong enough and due to his residual stroke issues, he could not help me help him too much. Had to call 911 for a Lift Assist and they were there very shortly – of course, it was midnight by this time. I tried for about 3 hours. They got him onto the bed and, after checking out all the weird and cool stuff in the house, they left. He did like he always does and walked into the bathroom a few times during the night. By morning, we realized his ankle was swollen and black and blue. Took him to the Urgent

Next Morning

Care and, of course, he has two fractured bones in his ankle, both the left and right ankle bone on his right foot. They put on a temporary cast, but have to see an orthopedic Monday or Tuesday. He may need surgery. Looks like weeks in a wheelchair – unless there is no surgery and he gets a walking cast. With his right side deficit, he is just not a candidate for crutches. So lets all hope for walking cast !

Best wishes to Nick . I also recently received the pirate set and in mine the Ax carrier was also the ‘stand alone’ figure. The hands can easily be cut off and switched from figure to figure to give a couple ‘extra ‘ poses.

I hope Nick gets better too I done exactly the same to my right ankle back in 1988 the doctors were not sure to operate or not. But set the break manually in the end and have had no trouble with my ankle since hopefully Nick will have the same outcome. I bought two sets of the mars pirates and four sets of the German naval troops also the Japanese infantry they are all great.

I’m sorry to hear about your accident , I know you have someone who will take good care of you..I am thankful for my wife…. I am almost done painting( with one eye) my Mars pirates. Very nice figures. Nobody with hooks or peg legs or patch over one eyes. Great poses I bent the arms of the girl with two guns. Now they are pointed forward in good firing position. I’m going ta put a hat on the pirate walking W/ pistol and sword, he’ll make a nice Blackbeard ..

I just bought a set. Nice figures. The only problem and I have never encountered this when buying a set of 15 figures in 8 poses, is that 4 poses have a double that is smaller than the other. Basically one is 54mm and the double in 51mm. Has anyone else had this problem with this set?
