  1. Don Perkins says:

These will probably prove to be a popular set, but for myself I’m just interested in the historical stuff, like the earlier projected set of pirates — which I’m still looking forward to.

  2. Rich Fisher says:

They look like characters from the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

  3. Alex Baldwin says:

Looks like copyright infringement to me. I image if Disney saw these, they would sue Mars into oblivion. Like Don said, they need to stick to historical periods. They also need to stay away from trying to make elite troops as noted earlier. No knock to any one who likes or will buy these but in my honest opinion these are ridiculous.

I was surprised as anyone to see these figures. There a couple of figures they could be sued for. Disney is extremely protective of their copyrights and trademarks. I will grab a set before they disappear.
As to another comment, we have lots of pirate skeletons. I don’t think we need zombies.

  4. Darren Hatley says:

I understand the copyright problems with these figures that has been stated, But as a big Fantasy figure fan i love these figures and will buy a set as long as they stay on the market that is? Althouth they are marked up as Zombie Pirates many of them would pass as straight forward Fantasy Monster figures And personally i would love to see more figures like these come out wether it is from Mars or another company.
Any idea when these figures will be out? And what there scale is?

    • dan harrick says:

      1/32 scale on the box

      • Darren Hatley says:

I know that Dan but 1/32 scale can vary greatly from 50mm to 65mm as has been discussed many times on Stads. I would just like to know there proper scale as it helps me to decide wether to buy 0, 1, 2, or even more sets of figures as it can matter to fussy blokes like me.

  5. Wayne Wood says:

I agree with all the comments above; I will pass on these as I, too am not in to fantasy figures. There’s one figure I might be able to use and would love to have – but it’s not worth buying the whole set for – unless my grandkids might like them because they do look like POC characters. But I’ve given up trying to get my grandkids interested in toy soldiers. They loved the Alamo set(s) I spent weeks putting together for them, but to a “man” came up sometime later and said they preferred GI Joes. (sigh…)

  6. Tom Black says:

Does Disney have power in the Ukraine?🧐 What about all the Chinese Timmee, Matchbox, Airfix copies? I like the lone human Pirate based on Barbossa but it is an odd pose and would have to be converted also the Zizzle 1/32 scale figures did not include Barbossa.

    • admin says:

It depends on the country on copyright protection. Some countries are very lax. Disney could go after importers. For most companies trying to protect their rights is too expensive. Disney has money to protect their rights. They will have to find out about Mars’ offering. Laurie and I years ago spotted at Toy Fair someone selling BMC Civil War figures. We clued in Bill McMasters and he took care of it.
Odd that Zizzle did not have the Barboosa figure. The figure was in the Disney store figure set.

      • Don Perkins says:

Yes, the toy soldier collecting fraternity, along with such a limited distribution network, may be so small that these MARS figures fly completely under Walt Disney’s radar.

  7. Daniel Murphy says:

I also suspect that it is a combination of Eastern European origins and small scale business operation that may enable MARS to get away with this. A while back Dark Alliance did some 1/72 “Half-Orcs” that were clearly based on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Uruk Hai and I know of no legal consequences.

    • erwin says:

      Yeah.So true.
plastoy?Papo ,Sleigh and others had release en entire fantasy line from 2003 till 2014 clearly base in all LOTR films but calling then different names snd making some variation like making an elve w bow in green clothing call forest elf .not elve to avoid issues snd a ring rider as treasure dark hunter and else.
Any way could do it as far not cloning actor and making minor differences.
HK sold Romans swoppet in multiple poses nice better copy of TIMPO as gladiators and other Herlad copies as well.
so copywriter issues is too hard to fight legally it in the toy market.
Better done is one coping a patent invention or cloning exact one toy .
      Best

  8. erwin says:

    ok.Where are the real figures?
No long ago a beautifully sculpted figure set definitely not done by Mars artist were post here.
    Are those the one ?
Or these Pirates of the caribbean based films charters the one made by Mars?
I can convert most to regular pirate and pirates can be use as sailors in any navy.
But till see then I won’t move.
Any ways many won’t find much use x them if fantastic poses
This is just picture of a box and are same HO set they did then another waste .
    Oh well.
    Best

    • Les White says:

The poses look the same as the box poses, except that where good painting can make a bad figure good, bad painting does not enhance a good figure. I think the box art just has badly painted figures.
