Kent shared this information “They are in the catalog of Lido molds for sale that Lido sent out in 1963.  I have the copy sent to Islyn Thomas who had sold Thomas Toys to Banner in 1960 but was still in the plastic business.  Got it from Bill Hanlon years ago.”

Rich Fisher had a question on the above ad.  Here is what he said:

Hi Paul- attached is an old ad for A SPACE CITY playset, Has anyone ever seen this set?? If so did it have the small copies of the Archer space figures in it?? I have had these small Archer copies for years but don’t know how they were sold(see attached photo) but they do bear some resemblance to the figures & vehicles in the “SPACE CITY” ad.

Ref. the Jean Stagecoaches: Which color do I prefer? I think it would be incredibly neat to have each & every one of those colors lined up on a shelf — or all parked unhitched outside a Wells Fargo station in a Western town.

The set itself would be improved if it had a 4-horse team.

  2. ERWIN F SELL says:

I alway though the JH coach as been base on European city town smaller and lest strong two horse team type .Not quite the standard US western carrier.
The model was small and has small back wheels not used in western.
    Even was made x it.
I had got hand on three of it and use x Europe
Another French maker did a base on not cloned horses and coach much better .I will take photography compare of JH and it to show them.
I think all colors will be great
The JH one is included in most fort playset as well the town houses playset.
The JH limber caisson w gun is better in my opinion.
The odd system used to attach horse s was not too nice but practical to play a lot with out being broken as kid.Contrary to more delicated such Britain, Herald, Dulcop and Timpo more prone to broke easy.
Yet to me the more realistic detail stagecoach are BRITAIN HERALD and ELASTOLIN.
Followed by COMANSI and PILEN brands.
The for or six horses team is important.
    My thoughts.

    • Don Perkins says:

You’re probably right, Erwin. But Jean Hoeffler did alot of Old West Cowboy stuff, which is why I assumed the stagecoach was meant to be in it’s Cowboy line.

Either way, I think having one in each color would look pretty good all lined up, and a team of four horses would look even better.

      • ERWIN F SELL says:

It was mean to ( as I say before above) of course was done with western huge line they cover w over 60 different poses of cowboys Indians and 16 poses US Cavalry not counting it small swappet line poses and semi flat early rare cowboys Indians with three forts and one western huge nice town playset.
In fact western line of JH was the largest and main sale line ;follow by medieval and then army of german states (wrong confused named as napoleonic set) and army series plus armor last with animals/ hunter .
I just mean it may be base european model when done by artist , mold else.
And there I use x it not x western .
I rather keep the brown color in my like as more realistic to me.I never fun of color variation personally.

        Best

        • Don Perkins says:

All those luggage boxes & trunks piled up on the top reminded me of the stagecoach scenes in “Tales of Wells Fargo”, episodes of which my wife and I now frequently watch on the Encore Westerns channel.

  3. ERWIN F SELL says:

Are these lido cons truction figue es set easy to get cheap around?
I like then to make army trench and planting mine conversion x africa WW 2 theatres and others sych WW one too.

    • The Lido construction figures are hard to find. I think they were one of the last molds Lido had made as I have only run across them a few times and never seen them in a package. It wasn’t until I got the Lido mold catalog that I found out who had made them. I have seen them in the 1965 Spiegel Christmas catalog in a playset with cars and the Lido pontoon bridge after Bala bought the molds. They continued to use the Lido name but sold out to Gabriel in 1965 who also used the Lido name but then scrapped most of the molds. I suspect the two construction molds were scrapped.

  4. Detlef Heerbrand says:

hello .. for the Jean Höfler carriages no matter if stagecoach, covered wagon, prison carriage, buggy or cannon wagon there are scaffolding axes to make them 4 skinny .. had my stage coaches but now only with 2 team he photographed ..

  5. Wayne W says:

I always liked the Jean stagecoaches. I used to see them in the shops when I was in Germany; I always wished they would have had different horses for them. JMO

  6. Would Stad or Rich please email me a larger jpg of the Space City zad as I have been trying to ID the small space pieces for years. sprecherko@aol.com
