    Whenever I am unable to attend the Chicago Toy Soldier Show (like this year), this is the time I start to get antsy, knowing that it is now (Wednesday evening) unfolding, with collectors arriving & dealers setting up, and I’m not there.

    I know that people like Ed Borris & Mike Kutnick, and Len Hardt, and others who appear on this site, are busy with all the festivities there, but when you get a chance, please send us your observations about attendance, new releases, events, etc., along with photos, if possible.

      I always respect anyone who takes the time to make notes & record observations and take photos at a toy soldier show, because I know from experience it takes time, and time is of the essence (and in very short supply) when you’re hurrying from one room to another trying to look at an array of vintage offerings from a multitude of dealers.

      When I’m at a show, especially one like the classic Chicago show (it’s actually held in Schaumburg, a nice northwestern suburb of the Chicago metro area), the last thing I’m usually thinking of is writing a report for others about what I saw, heard, experienced, etc.

      So whatever info you can send, when you find time to send it, is always appreciated by those of us who are having to experience it vicariously.

      Ed, Mike, and Lynn — you three are the ones I know personally, and I’m therefore holding you three in particular personally responsible to keep us informed over the next three days! It’s now Thursday morning as I write this, so I know the show is nearly in full swing.

      Specific questions I’m interested in are:

      1. What is the Borris/Kutnick character figure this year;

      2. What is the subject of the Father & Son diorama display this year (and the sooner I see a photo the better!)?

      3. What’s the story on John Stengel Jr.? Is he there? Is he still planning on being in Columbus next month?

      4. What’s the attendance? What’s the mood? What are sales & prices like? How is LOD doing? What’s the status of Austin Miniatures? Is Mark Hegeman there? How are Francis Turner and Bill Murphy doing? I really wanted to see both Stengel & Murphy there this year. How does Ed Borris like Playset Magazine’s new Marx Alamo Book? I’ve already got mine, and I think it’s great — fully the equivalent of Rusty’s earlier volumes on Fort Apache and the Blue & Gray sets. I notice Mr. Kutnick’s name in the Credit/Acknowledgments section, with a big color photograph of Ed’s conversions appearing on page 134.

    Boy, that’s a LONG list!!

    I would like to get a peek at the Barzso/LOD Yorktown playset.
