Maryland Toy Show July 2016

Maryland Toy Show July 2016 is one of several toy shows run by Dave Hart Shows. They are held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium Maryland. The July show is two days because the second day is a flea market. While the second day is free, we go on the first day for the toy show.  Laurie had no commitment for Saturday so she went along.

Maryland Toy Show July 2016

The ride from our home is two and half hours yet it does not feel that way due to highways. We left here and after a stop for gas arrived at the show.  Once in we stopped at our good friends Gerry Watts and Chris Lambert, who were busy with customers.  We therefore headed down the aisles.

The plastic figures were less in quantity than last time. Most of plastic figure were common. Still I did find a few treasures.  From George Vasquez of Toy Soldier Depot I got some Marx Battleground pieces and T Cohn rocks. Another dealer had some Hong Swoppet style soldiers that have gain interest on the internet.   In the lot was an army stretcher party and sitting figure.  There were also Germans in the lot.

Walking around I saw a dealer had two T Cohn Naval Yard playsets.  It seems the dealer got them out of a distributor who had used them for display. The playsets were less than complete as did not have the ships.  Still both sets were purchased before we left the show.  The dealer also had a T Cohn Fort Comanche playset which it seemed no one was interested it.

We saw Tom Stein and asked him about the Marx Meet. He told us that he sold all but one item on his table that he had brought to the show.  He said several dealers were missing including Carey, who was also missing from the Maryland show. It seems he had a vacation on the Marx meet and a wedding to go to for this show.

One stand it seems that the dealer was selling figures and accessories $5.00 each three for $10.00.  Tom was with us when we were at this dealer asked him on the price for the items. The dealer said that sign was for some Santa figures he had in front of the plastic figures.  The plastic figures were various prices therefore I left items that I had picked up.

Maryland Toy Show July 2016 Jim McGough

One of the highlights of the show was to see Jim McGough one of the owners of CTS. He knew what my first question therefore answer it before I asked. Their North Koreans are done and they are waiting for them to be shipped. He was hoping that they would not be delayed He promised to let us know when he had them available. Once this is done, CTS can look at future plans for this line.

We talked about old times and the hobby. Jim and I were back at the beginning of the hobby.

Maryland Toy Show July 2016 Gerry Watts

We headed back to Gerry Watts and while Laurie sat with Chris and wife Mare, I went through Gerry inventory.  Gerry has plastic figures in all different prices as a result everyone should find something.

Gerry handed me a bag of figures. He knows that I like foreign figures. He asked me who made them. Without missing a beat, I told him they were Braidwood. It seems that the figures were made by prisoners. Braidwood was a small company in the United Kingdom. I purchased them from Gerry.

After making my final purchases we said our goodbyes and headed out. On the way home we stopped at Bob Evans for dinner as we have none in our area.

Maryland Toy Show July 2016 Finds

Here are a few items that I found for my collection.

Maryland Toy Show July 2016

The first item  I found with a dealer that had various bags for sale. One of them had these firemen. The bag had them marked as Peco. Due to the material, I knew they were not.  The dealer felt the same way and probable felt they were someone else. I like them and came to the conclusion they would fit into my firemen collection.  I found out they were Ideal and are reissue.

These three figures I found in Gerry goods for sale.  I believe the two green men are gas station figures made in China. The other figure I have no idea who made him.

The final item I got is possible antenna yet could be something else. Do you have who made it and what it is?

Maryland Toy  Show July 2016 Final Thoughts

One nice thing was to meet several new people who have being enjoying my blog. One of them, Larry had written in looking for the  Jean Mounted Napoleonic and did not figure on getting a response.  He was therefore surprise by the responses he did get.  Frank the other new person I met had been at Gerry when he got the Braidwood. Both readers  like others of you have comment how much fun the blog is. We will tried to keep up the good work.

Interesting report and finds-encounters you got!!!
Wow!! I have those swopped soldiers ,The come in window cases from early 80’s.
;the so call Germans are grey colors in generic uniforms but helmets look more post WW2 or later British helmet type. I think copied from Cherilea helmets, they are a mix of Timpo with Cherilea and others .
Unless are they were Airfix swopped Germans made in HK that are from a different HK brand maker sets.
The stretcher set come with an truck ambulance, others come with armored car ,JEEP or centurion tank. All vehicles are in 1.48 approx.!!
I had see then sold in bag but not common.
I love those Braidwood figures, the Custer kneeling pose is awesome.
Never see the two mechanic/else figures-looks interesting!!.
The pose on right come in a construction set sold under J.B .That is all I know and is very resent, they resemble some of the Boley construction poses.
The ideal firemen reissues most had been not much distributed or sale as I had not see too many around.
No idea on antenna pole…that is a hard one I guess!!

The swoppet soldier are interesting figures. There seems to be a interest in them. The Braidwood are interesting figures not a big line. I like going through Gerry’s boxes as I find little treasures of odd figures. On the Fireman figures, Kent listed them as reissues. I do not when they were reissued.

Interesting in the Ideal reissues. Will like to know if they are same stiff brittle plastic as ARW figures reissued in 90’s or other .
Wonder if were done same time as others.

I think the construction black color guy is from RED BOX brand bag set. They did cowboys, police, workers call “road work” or “men at work” in packs,fire-rescue(call 911 x US pack and 999 x UK packs) and knights (base in Starlux 8-10 poses in silver and gold in 50 mm approx. )Bags were of 10 to 40 pc each depending in size.
I think Fire rescue(red and White ) ,police(blue) workers(black and orange) are original designed wile cowboys and knights were mainly copies.
I think they did others but not recall now
I have all them but need to dig off as not in bags ,but I know were sold by RED BOX.
RED BOX is a 1985.Was original funded in HK and united with others from other toys line in China after 90’s. It has been BLUE BOX main competitor since from china market.
It has “”wrongly mentioned”” as same or part as Blue Box companies in PW magazine incorrect. They are two complete different companies …
BB and RB are only original funded HK companies still in existence with out interruption and Chinese family owned till today .BB been much older of course in 1957
RD now produced most action figures and articulated learning toys most.

Like those Braidwood, not something you see every day in the U.S. !Kind of remind me of a cross between Timpo and Reamsa !

    • Erwin says:

      Mark.I agree in braiwwod.
      I love then too.
And you did nail in observation.
They sure are indeed a cross between those too, poses more reamsa and detail sculpt of faces as timpo..
They hard to see.I’m trying build entire Collection of them but other than few on ebay and Paul Stad I had never see elsewhere.
Unless shows in UK or Europe of course.
The plastic is excellent quality.soft and nice.

Braidwood I discovered on my trips to UK. At the Plastic Warrior show I got to see many figures that I have never seen before. Braidwood at the time was not in high demand, but I like them and thought other collectors would too. I strongly recommend going to the PW Show as you will find lots of treasure some cheap some not. On our last trip to PW I got a mounted Timpo Hopalong Cassidy in plastic which I had been looking for years. It cost me at least 30 pounds.
From time to time I will find foreign here as most collectors will pass on it looking for Marx or other American companies.

I was surprised to find the Braidwood here as I only have gotten it out of the UK. In York Toy Show, I found damaged figure from a German company that I had not seen at any of the European shows.
